Nope, just a little love.

A small group got together and brainstormed with the goal of making a smallish change under the hood that would have a big, positive effect.

If that is a "smallish" change, I can't wait to see what a big, sweeping change is in store for the GCW revamp.

just so im clear ... rather than experienceing a tef when i go killing rebel scum, i wont experience a tef and no player rebels will be able to attack me unless i enable a new PvP option in the character window? and visa versa. If i see a stormy under attack in kadaara I cannot step in to defend him?

and I agree ... any base needs to have an "alert list" where anyone on the list is automatically sent an email stating that their base is under attack. as well, the alert list should be sensitive to guild names s/a Guild.guildinitials that way all members of that guild would recieve notification rather than having to incert every guild members name onto the alert list.

Tell them all "Thank you" for these changes.

Any clue as to the faction cost for one of these Popcorn Bases if we get one alone? See, they could be set up with an opposing base for a little player-created PVE battlefield. It'd be great if we could just buy the Popcorn Bases and set up a little Star Warsy-PVE fight with an opposing force - like perhaps having an unbuffed/unarmored contest on who can destroy the other's base first.

It's a PvE base you guys. You can't defend it. That's the point. If you could, then it would become a PVP base.

They're available like candy so you can place them and not worry about it when they get destroyed later while you stand around and watch. Further contributing to the Star Wars feel. Like that time in The Return of The Jedi where The Emperor stood outside the Death Star Shield bunker while Han Solo and the rebels ransacked the place before obliterating it. Unfortunately for the Emperor his angry fist waving wasn't powerful enough to break the PvE protections and save the Empire. It's great to see SWG reaching more of that star wars feeling.

GAH! There goes that sarcasm again.

Any chance that I can still find flat land to harvest resources from with all these bases around?

Sounds good, I just hope these cheap and easy to place PvE bases don't fill up the land scape.

These lot-uses got me puzzled too... I was thinking along the line of SELLING landto place the bases :-)

Once the lot swaps happens to 'win' the war, flat land will dry up in a hurry. Most likely you'll need a PvE rebel alt and a PvP imp alt to 'clear' land for harvesters.

You might want to expand on this, TH, since people are still unsure of why they'd want to place PvE bases they can't defend.

My sense from your first post is that overall planetary control brings benefits like lower faction cost, higher faction presence in NPC cities, etc. So the reason to place your free and expendable PvE bases, besides general fun, is that they contribute to your faction's overall strength on that planet while they last.

Is that correct? Seems like everyone wins.

I have to say...just amazing. Though not without a few kinks, if this is a smallish, pre-CURB thing, I can't wait for the CURB!

Well, one thing we have to consider is that they aren't "your" bases per se. They are the Empire's bases and the Rebellion's bases.

The purpose of these bases is to run around and shoot NPC's of opposing factions - - for fun.

PvE bases will count towards planetary control, but not nearly as much as PvP bases.

I thought for a moment that it might be neat to have NPCs come and raid your PvE base. In fact, the first thing that came to mind was that it would be an entirely PvE thing where you would only defend it from PvE enemies, but I can see how that wouldn't really work out in the long run...

It just seems like PvE players will befrustrated when any bases they place will be pretty quickly consumed by their stronger PvP counterparts while they stand by helpless to defend it.

But on second thought, why stand around watching your base get destroyed when you could be running to the nearest enemy PvE base and attacking it? Cool.

*Edited because I forgot to mention what a phenomenal job you guys are doing! I think the Dev team must have been eating their Wheaties lately! Keep up the great work and thanks!

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

It looks like you've nailed it.

Popcorn Bases (pvE) are going to be cheap (since they come 2 to a box with PVP Bases) and I hope they're cheap (like 300-500 fp cheap) if you buy them singly.

So they should really count as like 1/10th or so of a full PVP base against the GCW. But the neat thing is they generate NPC's. How cool will it be to have patrols of NPC's hanging out in your player city, eh? Or to throw down a Popcorn Base some evening with a friend throwing down his so you can have an NPC firefight if you drop themclose enough.

I can think of at least 4 ways to use these for fun right away. I can't wait.

Base Defense

  • PvE Bases are defended by NPC's

  • Yes. Much.

I don't get you. Will PvE players not be frustrated when other PvE players come in and destroy their base?

That is the nature of dividing up the GCW into PvP and PvE, players can now affect you and you just get to stand by and watch, have fun.
