Can they be destroyed or farmed for faction?

1) On the original post on Bases, TH specifically says PvE bases are placed and defended by both PvE and PvP players
2) Further in the post (by you) it is stated that PvE bases are only defendable by NPCs.
Which way is it? Also, what is hte incentive for any factionaly player to place a PvE base if they can not defend it?
Ok, had a pow wow internally to go over all the rules again.
So you can't really defend PvE bases - - that's why we're giving them away for free.
The purpose of these bases is PvE fun.

What if you WANT to help defend them though? I know you said the NPC's will be on steroids internally but just standing there and not being able to help at all is a bit weird. Also on that same note does this mean if a player is in Mos Espa for example and killing troopers an imperial player is unable under any circumstances to help the trooper? I know it's just an NPC generated by the system but it kind of kills the "feeling", ya know?

Outstanding!
Silly question (I think I missed it while reading over all the cool stuff) when does this take affect ???
These changes will be on Test Center in a couple of weeks-ish.
You mean this is not part of the combat upgrade? We get this too?
Anyway, the new faction-system makes more sense after reading this part. Luckily. It'll be exciting to see how this all developes and most of all what perks will come with planetary control. And on that: Will planets be biased when this system sets in? Like Corellia having more rebel activity and Naboo more imperial, being the Emperors holiday spot and all?
This is NOT part of the Combat Upgrade.
Is it part of the GCW revamp? Or something seperate too?

Holiday spot? It's his HOME PLANET.
Anyway, thanks for the update TH about PVE Bases. That they're for fun mainly makes sense. People will place them to try to add to the faction total for the GCW, so I think they'll be quite common. Especially for inside player cities - if the footprint on PVE bases was akin to large houses, there'd be a lot of atmosphere available to factioned player cities. Tons of factioned PVE NPC's running around inside the city. If the bases poof, just drop another -- if and only if they're CHEAP.
Will they be cheap to purchase singly, TH? They should be very cheap to replace, else few would be available to throw down after destruction of the first bunch placed.

But what will happen to the existing NPC Bases such as on Naboo or Corellia? Will these be integrated into the current system? I'd hate to see them getting abandoned or so, there is so much love put into the details (the Naboo underground base really gives a nice feeling, as if you played Dark Forces again
