Thread: Producer's State of the Game Letter April 27, 2004
Well written letter. I hope the results live up to the propoganda/marketing displayed in it.
To all those who are already squabbling about the suggested Veteran Rewards--I hope the SOE team makestheir decisions of what to do and who to give it to in secrecy. It is a nice gesture for any company to recognizetheir long-time customers and I hate to see the greedy side of human nature already rearing it's ugly head. Whoever gets something--if anyone does--I say yay for them, and good job SOE.
On the various Publishes to come:
1) Jedi path revamp is needed, but I whole heartedly disagree with any proposal to grant Force powers or sensitivity to everyone. Yes most of us want to have a Jedi, but from the Star Wars saga we all know not all were able to and that should be no different here.
2) Jedi are a minority and a combat class, so I do agree with others who have said togo forward with Combat Rebalance before revampingclasses.
3) We need a commotment form SOE as to their plan to correct all the existing bugs. it is inexcusable to be approaching a year after release and not yet address Beta bugs.
4) Admit that CH will never be fixed because you cannot make it powerful without making any elite combat class too powerful when combined with it. Just admit it and abolish it if you can't figure out how to make it work and be an enjoyable and needed class.
5) Be careful if you intend to make PvP in any way unavoidable. Those of us who do not enjoy PvP will not be forced to play a game style we dislike. Remember, there were plenty of non-aligned people/beings and non-combatants in the movies.
character transfer system???
what mad idea is this please? Ok there are a lot of old servers, overpopulated, and some cash tings i dont like to further discuss here, but please that cant be that people left old server for playing on the new Infinity Server, and then in about a month, all the old roXXer kiddy players with their duped money, duped items and their overRoXXer Jedi Guardians can come to Infinity, where we do even not have a single Jedi Guardian relating on the time the server is old.
So please please please please please please please please please please please please please DEVS, just let character transfer be able to Testcenter and not from one Server to another please please please !!!!!

We also put in a novice player tutorial for the starting professions. This is a directed experience that adds a ton of information and quests to the starting player's path. New players will be given a helper droid that will aid them in completing their quests. If you have been thinking about starting a new character, this would be a great time!
Excellent. Some sort of focus is definitely needed at the beginning game. I’m dying to take a look at this.

Hutt Casino: This is a major Social Adventure geared towards Dancers, Musicians, and fast-talking Smugglers. It is also going to be a great place just to hang out. It was moved from Publish 9 to Publish 10 because our art resources will be cranking on Space during that time. Believe me, it will be worth the wait!
In-freaking-credible! This is exactly the type of theme park I’ve been waiting for since well before the game was even in beta. This is the type of stuff I’ve been waiting for through several games. And even with this news I’m desperate to hear that medics and artisan theme parks are on their way as well.
I predict that this theme park will be wildly popular. That is if the atmosphere of the films can be captured, having iconic characters that set the scene, interact on a limited basis, rather than being statues that hand out missions. I’m dying dying dying to see this.
And yet the question nags like a sore tooth. When if ever, will they fix CH?
Answer: Never. All the fancy talk, all the politically correct lingo and when you cut through the BS the reality is we ain't doing anything to fix CH, so please shut up and go away.
Not only are the Devs full of it the producer is too.
Character Transfer.... I have seen a few mentions to it in this thread, can anyone please tell me where I can find any official information on this if there is any yet or are people just making it up?
Thanks

Ummm....Maybe you don't get it...this is a STAR WARS game...it will never..."sink like a brick"...there are many star wars fans who have never played this game, but that like mmorpgs...there will always be fresh players joining, and old ones leaving...the powergamers will start to roll on to the next flavor of the year game...and the community in game will begin to decline, yes, but it will go right back up and stabilize...star wars is a household name...people just KEEP forgetting that....this isn't shadowbane or eq or uo or daoc or hell any other online game...this game has movies, books, comics, cd's, records (yes old soundtracks), games, card games, paper rpg, etc...TOYS....that are related to this game...no other online game can even compare to the amount of exposure this game gets....not one...it won't sink...it will keep going and may even get to a decade or more...of continuous running...sink like a brick my @ss...

So are you saying we have to wait for November/December to see the combat publish? That is really going to hurt the game. I'll wager when WoW and other games come out this one will sink like a brick.
Intressting post.
Me i enjoy SWG i've played Ac2, EQ, UO, DAOC and out of them all swg has been the one i have enjoyed most so far.
I'd have loved the SE to have been more like X2 the final threat, but i guess that was impossible for the guys to do.
The only thing that worries me is that i was used to seeing Game Letters published in AC2 a fair bit and it can often backfire on the developers due to majour glitches that pop up during work on patches ![]()
Not their fault i know these things can happen,I just hope players are more forgiving than the people that played Ac2.
Once a mighty game, their servers filled withthousands ofpeople dwindled too less than 500 at peak times ![]()
I do think though that other games will effect SOE subscribers, to say they will notis nieve of people that play and the Developers themselves.
Ac2 said SWG wasn't a threat, yet when the game progressed in a way people hated and people left AC2 over 73% of them came to SWG.
WoW doesn't intresst me at all due to its cartoon image, although knowing blizzard it will probably be an awsome game.
The game for me that is going head to head with SWG is EQ2 (Everquest 2) these will be the 2 challanging for my monthly subscription. Fantasy is more to my taste though so EQ2 might just steal me, However i love the SWG game and the future for it looks promising indeed. I do hope the Guys working on SWG can enhance it into a truly epic game ![]()
