Glad you brought up the Droid post. Let's use that as an example of how things change.

I said, in my newsletter, thatthe January publish would be focussed on Droids. After that, Lucas and SOE agreed that Publish 6 would be focussed on the Imperial Crackdown, for two reasons:

1) Increase the feeling of Imperial oppresion to make the game more Star Wars feeling

2) Give us the time necessary to treat the droids with the amount of energy they deserve.

In Publish 6 (the publish I referred to), the following things are happening:

So while Droids are not the MAIN focus, we are addressing some of the DE issues. In the next two publishes, after crackdown, we ARE focussing specifically on Droids. We plan on implementing combat droids (< level 10) in P7, and Utility Droids in P8.

Re-direction and evasiveness. I'm not about to accept excuses for last minute changes to things that have been talked about for months. SOE has serious internal communication and management problems. Get everyone on the same page. And don't let TH bear the brunt of your mistakes, it's insulting to us, and plain mean to an employee.

Was my brand new editing ability removed?

We have wanted to be able to edit on these forums since beta.

The feature was added yesterday and many of us have been really happy with it.

I wanted to correct some spelling and formatting errors, but I just got a message saying I couldn't edit.

I will now try to edit this message.

another pro decay post from a guy that apparently has never had armor.

and btw anyone can repair armor, I along with many many people arent convinced armorsmiths actually get a repair bonus or not

I never stated I support item decay, did I? Nope.

And have you ever tried repairing armor yourself with your ZERO armor repair skill? Yes, even with your 99% armor repair tool it will fall apart in your hands. You need a Master.

I *AM* a master armorsmith and I get **0** REPAIR BONUS.. *0*. I have ruined a fair number of items that were only 30000/32000 using 99.5% tools. Enough that I don't even bother repairing my OWN armor anymore nor anyone elses.. I will sell them a repair tool and let them gamble with thier own items, I, however, will not make the same gamble and take the blame for poor coding..

When will you relize that decay kills PvP. It is the only thing this game has left for those of us who do not want to grind through jedi...(which believe me is 10 times worse than any hologrinding you could have done to get it in the first place). Stop killing PvP and stop making crafters even more rich than they already are, armor decays too fast and combat professions are dying because of it.

Insulting TH is not the answer...

Respectabledebaters attack their opponent's argument, NOT the opponent himself.

I appreciate hearing that the devs are keeping the 1% by design, and not hiding behind a claim that it's technically un-feasible. So now we can continue to discuss whether 1% decay is the best death sting, or whether we can all come up with amore creative/ more accepted-by-the-community death sting.

In general, I applaud JustG for taking the time to post on this miscommunication. From a player perspective, however, I don't completely absolve Thunderheart from anything. Thunderheart may not be one of the behind the scenes decision makers and may just be the player communication funnel, but to players, Thunderheart is a red name, employed by SOE, and just as "guilty" as the other red named people.

I do think many people lack insight into what goes on behind the scenes and even describing it today will do little to change player perception tomorrow. Not that you shouldn't try to change it, but as most people use the boards to complain about bugs and generally make the Devs out to be the root of all evil, it's an uphill battle. On the other hand, even if you can increase one player's understanding, it's a win since that person will become an advocate with his/her friends in game, etc.

I think the problem with the 1% decay issue is one of frustration mainly. Everyone was excited at the prospect of it going away, and then the change was removed altogether. I'd say the error isn't that Thunderheart communicated the 1% decay thing in the first place. The problem is that the communication happened too late. It appeared (as best I could tell) in a Friday feature as something to expect in the coming update. Where it really should have been communicated is on the "In Concept" forum until the logistics had been worked out.

Stuff happens, people make mistakes, etc. I think many people will give the Devs more slack over time provided there is a continued dedication towards communication. I'm more apt to assume something was an honest mistake, necessary for balance, delayed due to technical reasons, etc. if I feel like the Devs are being honest and up front on a regular basis. If I feel like it's another failed promise, another buggy implementation, or lip service, then I'm more apt to want to tear someone's head off.

It's a perception thing. Keep working on it like you (the Devs) have recently, always try to improve, and you'll do fine.

Well I guess the solution to the problem is....don't die....lol j/k. I don't think I have seen the community this worked up. At this point I am resigned to the fact that the Dev's are gonna do what they want and it really doesn't matter how much we whine and moan about it. It just doesn't help. I just try to have fun with the cards I'm delt and I am. I think if the people who are fed up and sick of it are not having fun anymore then they really should quit..after all why play and be miserable. Lifes to short. Thats my two cents for what its worth.

P.S. When is the space expansion supposed to come out? I hope soon.

"One thing I do know: I have yet to see anyone with an informed opinion (ie not trolling) disagree with the fact that PvP decay is annoying, frustrating, counter-productive and lame--in game or out.."

Personally I HATE decay, but I don't think its counter productive. I've been on since day one and I remember corpse runs, I hate corpse runs more than decay. Decay is a penalty for dying, dying should be unpleasent, and decay fills this roll, it makes death agrivating, but not as agrivating as running all the way to your corpse only to be killed by the same thing that killed you last time (vehicles and mounts would make getting to your corpse easier than previously but you still have to dismount to get your corpse).

As far as death and decay in PVP I don't understand why PVP should be exempt from decay, being open to attack and possible death is a risk we all take when going overt. There should be a penalty for dieing, I have yet to see a MMORPG without a penalty for dying (not saying there aren't dozens, I just haven't seen one).

I in no way think decay for PVP is lame it is merely a price to pay for getting killed. I agree it is annoying, but thats the point, it encourages you to avoid death and take precautions. In addition it provides a small moneysink in a game where some people have enough credits to buy holocrons for a 500,000 credits. Sure its a regressive tax, but eh thats life. As far as armor getting a double whammy, that might need remedying, but artisans and armorsmiths can make repair kits and fix em up rather well. I've had my armor through over a dozen of deaths, and it only started with 9,000 durability.

In a debate, that would be true, but this isn't a debate. This isa prime example of what the industry calls 'bait and switch'... they promise you one thing, but then at the last minute, deliver something less than what they promised... telling you that they never guaranteed you'd get the first thing... and that when you signed up... you signed away your right to complain that you're not getting what you were promised...

For the record...

I support the 5% uninsured decay penalty. That's what you get for not insuring.

I do not support the 1% insured decay penalty. If you pay for insurance, your items should be secure.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

Question to all the whiners:

Do you think death should have zero penalty? What, then, would be your deterrant from dying?

The games NEEDS decay. If you don't want the items to decay, don't die. I know it sounds silly, but it's the truth. Death has penalties... and the devs can NOT remove those penalties.
