A Padawan System
Why not get rid of this dependancy on NPCS and move to Players? The current player jedi should be instrumental in future jedi advancement!
Excellent idea! Could it not be possible for those that make it to Jedi to have a special option on a radial menu to generate random quests for the potential Jedi? Example:
---Jedi opens wannabe's radial menu and selects Generate Quest. The Jedi player receives a mail with a very briefly worded, randomly generated quest or task for the wannabe to perform. The Jedi player can then roleplay with the wannabe and explain the quest needs as he/she sees fit, thereby creating an active and dynamic quest system. XP rewards are of course generated by the quest, with the Jedi player being performed of the success/failure of the wannabe. Any items collected by the wannabe and given to the Jedi would of course be auto-cleaned from the Jedi's inventory in a server-safe way (apologies, I understand the need for practicality, but I am no programmer)---
Of course, such a system would be tricky to implement, but would indeed make it a lot tougher for people to become Jedi, as they would actually need to search out a live player, not a static NPC. Understandably, one of the prime concerns with such a system would be poor Jedi players having their names being spread in cantinas across the galaxy, and the fact that once known a poor Jedi would never have any peace. But to counter that, perhaps the BHs can be included somehow. Of course, it would be unwise for potential Force-users to go spouting Jedi player names, because a) they just mark themselves as potential targets, and b) they may find a rather annoyed Jedi knocking on their door. There may be practical ways of dealing with these concerns, such as context based enemy spawns for loud-mouthed players, or their names being listed on BH mission terminals.
These are all just thoughts of course, might be completely undoable, but you did ask ![]()
Thunderheart,
Is this In-Concept about what Jedi should do after they've unlocked their slot?
Or, is this thread about whatplayers shoulddo to open up their Jedi slot?
I'm confused.
TH,
My biggest concern with a quest based system is that I'll have to compete with other players for the chance. Make it difficult, I'm fine with that. But don't make me have to wait for some uber PA with 100 members to get all theirs done first.
Also, Please don't make me *require* a PA of 100 members to get me through it.
One thing to look at is the Intellect badge. Its a rare spawn, spawns in different places, and once somebody does it you have to wait for a couple hours to give it a shot yourself. So what happens is we get groups of players running around looking for this thing for days and weeks, they find it (cheer for joy!) and some griefer comes in and steals it from 'em.
The path to Jedi should be a personal journey, something that you predominately do on your own. Maybe certain tasks will be to help/interact with other players, but it shouldn't require or be limited by other players.
I don't want EverCamp EpicQuests to unlock my slot. Grinding professions would be better than that!

I would love for there to be some randomness in these quests. This would keep me from logging onto www.BeAJedi.com and doing all the walkthroughs and becomming a Jedi Master at the end of the week. Yes, this is added complexity and such, but I sure beats cookie cutter Jedi.
I think it would be really cool if one of the quest sections of the jedi path involved an actualsearch for your FS character.
From the movies and books, jedi sought people with high metachlorine counts, but had to find them. They could not simply sense them.
I think it would be great to have a light (rebel)/dark jedi (imperial)from whom you get a series of quests to locate a NPC who is force sensitive. There would be rumors of a child with strange powers on one of the planets. Both sides would be trying to get to the NPC before the other.
As part of this quest, you would have to help the jedi/dark jedi gather the resources tomake a metachorine meter, make the metachorine meter, and do several fact finding quests to try to locate the FS NPC.
As the final step, you would get something with some kind of DNA or other signature, which you would then have to take to a player bounty hunter, and have the player bounty hunter use probe droids to help you find the FS NPC (this gives a market for player bounty hunter's services).
After you and the bounty hunter find the FS NPC, you would have to test his metachlorine count and convince him to return with you to the jedi/dark jedi (through a series of questions/discussions that you have to give certain answers/responses to). If you fail, you have to start over.
When you succeed, thatNPC becomes your FS character (subject of course to you changing appearance on the character creation screen) and your FS slot opens. This would be the finale of the whole FS quest line.
Also, I had one other thought...I think the FS patch should include a long line of quests that comprise locating jedi/dark jedi, and getting them to trust you enough to tell you who their fellow jedi and masters are. Basically to gain access to the secret circle of jedi/dark jedi that moves you up the chain, until you get to the final "go find your jedi" quest detailed above.
Personally i think the whole crystal loot drop is silly. [edit: i think the Pearl uses in a saber is even sillier]
I think Jedi should have to suvery-like for their crystal. Allow them to "use the Force" to focus on a crystal in the area. You could then even spawn some defenders around it, or maybe just make them take a journey to the location to find the Jedi crystal. The crystal could even be only usable by that Jedi (make it a no drop).
As much as im agaisnt the huge amount of Jedi in this time frame, Jedi have a very Personal feeling around them. This feeling is severly lacking in SWG currently. In Star Wars, a Jedi quested for their crystal, the handle, the parts... some were made out of multi crystals, other lightsabers used a swoop handle bar for a handle. A jedi fought better with his/her personally crafted saber then with a borrowed one.

Good Morning,
I cant understand for the life of me why they would change this? I have done everything in the game all profession but 9 and i have no jedi. There is no more in game content. I have over 80 badges and have done every NPC in the game includeing everytheme park. It seems really silly to me that you would make a player who has played every aspect of your game go through a bunch more trials and tribulations just to make the population that cant grind happy. By changing the game at this point it is taking away al thw rok i put forward. The tracking sytems have been so poor up to this point I have no faith that I will be given proper crdit twords anything. I have completed more things than any jedi in the history of SW. This games just trying to get people locked in for more unwanted time to get you money. I know i will finish the remaining 9 profession before the end ofmarch but its not fair for those folks that have been loyal and played your nightmarich system for the past year. I know all my in game contacts and freinds are quitting if they mess with the FSCS system. This change only benifits whiners and people who dont want to put in the time and commitment. If playing every part of the game and using all its content doesnt turn on FSCS then there is no real path to the jedi only a preset template for people to grind through.

It would be great if the trial in the cave was somewhat personalized. Like you might have to face the MOB or NPC that has db'ed you the most in the past (if that data is stored somewhere.) I don't know how hard it would be but it would be awesome to fight an NPC that looked exactly like your character with the exact same skills.
