Umm not sure if everyone knows this BUT:

the "Unlocks" caused by glowy means you will be visited by the old man in 2-3 days then you have to wait a undetermined period of time until you can get into the village....

THEN you do some quests for a day, AT WHICH POINT you unlock 1 branch of 4 skills that you THEN get to grind OVER 30,000,000 combat profession XP then after a month you can start a 2nd quest and grind another 30,000,000 xp......

By grinding Holos you skipped a day with a few small quests, YOU STILL HAVE TO GRIND HUNDREDS OF MILLION XP!

THANKS SOE!

they got rid of the grind for me

I'm outta here!

I don't think a lot of folks realize it. You've exchanged your weeks of grinding for...months of grinding! The only "quest-based" portion of this new way to attain Jedi is to open up a line of Force sensitivity training. Once open, you have to convert existing profession XP, depending on the line opened, to learn Force sensitive skills in that line.

In other words, if you opened up Combat Prowess, you now get to cash in your hoarded combat, weapon, and Squad Leader XP in order to learn a skill in that line. If you don't have any hoarded combat, weapon, or Squad Leader XP, you're now grinding in order to get it! You'll need at least 3 or 4 professions in order to earn XP in all of the lines needed to open Jedi Initiate. The conversion rate varies depending on the XP being converted; here's an exampledrawn from someone else's post:

"Say I want to learn FS Combat Prowess Novice which costs 50,000 FS combat experience. I have 900K 2H experience and 90K combat experience saved up from fighting whatever. I can go to Paemos and convert those into FS combat experience. The 900K 2H experience will convert into 30,000 FS Combat xps. The 90K combat xps can also convert into 30,000 FS Combat xps. I can then learn the novice box and have 10,000 points left over to spend later."

Assume it takes a week of grinding in a given profession to earn enough XP to convert into 60K FS experience in the line of your choice. That doesn't seem unreasonable - I've seen folks hit the 900K cap by grinding a combat profession for a hard week. In order to qualify for Jedi Initiate, you need totrain in sixlines of Force sensitivity skills. For each line, 50K for novice, then 175K, 250K, 350K, and 450K FS experience is required in order to complete it. At 1.275 million FS experience to complete a single line, you'll need 21.25 weeks per line at the rate mentioned earlier. That's127.5 weeks, or just a little under two and a half years, to do so. Even if you double this rate, you're left with nearly 64 weeks of grinding.

This isn't quest-based - it's grinding, just in a different form. Hologrinders are being rewarded greatly, whether they realize it or not, because their grind has been shortened by months or even years at the above rate. Each "unlock" given to a hologrinder translates into 1.275 million FS XP in that line, which can be spent wherever that person chooses. If you unlocked before Publish 10, you get 6 "unlocks", so you can fast-track to Jedi Initiate.

But, once again, roleplayers are screwed royally - since roleplayers don't typically grind XP, there's no way in hell they will be able to open a slot in any reasonable timeframe. And, as at least 3-4 professions are required in order to earn the various profession XP types needed to obtain the appropriate FS XP types, you're going to have to go from profession to profession to get it.

I have one thing to say to people who have recently joined the game and are criticizing the veterans for expressing their utter disdain for the devs. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT!!!! If there was a single time in this game's history when everything came out and worked as advertisedI cannot remember it. NEVER has a patch worked even 80% right when it is released. When this game first came out there were literally hundreds of issues, some of which have still not been resolved to this day. From factories not working, to bugged quests and NPC's, to the failed hologrinding scheme, the devs have let down veteran subscribers over and over again. To those of you who just joined this game **edit**, you have no idea how many times we have been dissapointed over the last year! The game as it is today is still nowhere near as solid as some MMO's who have been out the same amout of time, or in some cases, less time. Our frustration (veterans) is that this is yet another flopped patch full of bugs and situations that should have been anticipated by the development team. The fact that this patch is about jedi just makes it so much worse for so many people. Also, the devs have proven themselves to be untrustworthy by their own volition, just read TH's post to start this thread and you see that they raised the requirements to get jedi from 5 classes to 8 over the course of the game. This was NEVER announced, and we were promised that this raising of the bar would NEVER happen. So to the 100's or 1000's of people who would have earned jedi months ago if not for this sneakinessI offer my condolences. To those of you who are staying with this ultimately flawed game, have fun, and may the force be with you !

Ok, sifting through all the flames and rants, (all 50 or so pages lol) just have a question about what visit group I am in since I could not find what group I qualify for.

If I had the requirements (for all the badges and such) to get glowie on the publish relase date, what group does that qualify me for. Also what is this idea I have heard about "getting a visit from 1-3 days"? Any clarification on that would be nice.

There should be a reward system in place for those of us who have been loyal customers since the first month of release. I started playing July 13th 2003 and have never cancelled my account. My first holocron I looted in November told me to master WS which just wasn't my cup of tea, so I never did the Holo grind. I have only mastered 7 profs and I doubt if more than 1 was by chance a holo prof. I don't feel like being screwed and having to wait for everyone else to finish before I can start specially since I will probably have to grind at least 5 probably 6 trees.

If you're glowing you will get in. The time phase they won't tell us, so who knows when it will happen.

I'm a holo grinder that didn't make it. I finished with 22 masters. I'm guessing I won't get in for a few stages. Is that fun? No. But will I live waitinga week or whatever it ends up being, yesI will.

They specifically stated that the hologrinders would be rewarded for their work. They have said that since the announcement of the revamp. Those who didn't grind..thats great.. you get to START your new path now. The only reason ANYONE is already waiting on the old man is because of rewarding the grinders..otherwise, everyone would be at the start. So the fact that you arent ready to recieve a visit from the old man yet, this is NOT a punishment.. its the START of your path. If you wanted to recieve the hologrinders reward.. you would have done the hologrinders chores. You wanted to wait and do it the new way..well, here is the new way.. go do it and stop whining that othersgot ahead because they did the "extra credit" and you didn't.

I love the patch..think its great. Think the rewards being split.. giving more to the ones who did more is fair. I personallymastered only 20 prof's , so I will have more to do than those who mastered more, and that is fair.

If the past holds true, we will not be hearing from ANY developers for quite some time. They know they have an inferior product, they know they have inferior leadership and developers. Nope the developers will hide till they can make somemore empty promises and string along the players till next update. Does this sound familiar to anyone???????

I really do wish George Lucas would pull the plug on this project. But hell, look at episode 1 and 2. Show me the money.

P.S. I think his daughter is now writing the scripts.

Since there is a large wave of players that will be going through the system, we are going to be monitoring traffic daily as players start and finish the Force Sensitive quests. When enough people have completed their path, we will open it up the village to the next group. Groups 1 – 4 will qualify for a visit when the village traffic has died down. Of course, if you qualify for the visit under the new system, you will automatically be granted a visit from the old man.

There were 4 people in the Village last night on Kettemoor. This virtual valve seemsexcessively tight.

Could you confirm that they had visitations from the old man, or were they Jedi?

They were ALL jedi. There was a person outside the village who had unlocked after pub9, and he had been waiting all day for a visit from the old guy. He was glowy.

I can confirm two in the Village last night on Lowca, both were Jedi.
