Can you make it so that people who abuse the one star system get the title "Village Idiot"?
That's be hot.

I would certainly be embarassed to get such a title, but I fear some people would strive to actually get a title like that. It's just like some of the player names in game -- I would be embarassed to walk around with such a name but to others it's like a badge of honor. It is something I will never understand either.

That does sound pretty cool. The current one is kind of boring.

Hmm, folks with alternate accounts can 5 star themselves and 1 star the folks they don't 'like'.

I'd like to see some sort of system where those who just blatantly 1 star 'everyone' have less clout. And those who 5 Star the same poster over and over as 'self star buffing'.

Kind of a neat system, but I'm just concerned it will be abused a bit. Not sure what you could do to prevent it though. It's a more interesting system then current

I have turned off my rating system also. I was tired of making decent posts just to get one starred into oblivion.

Now if you could just remove the forum privelages for the people found to be abusing the star system then I am all for it. Just giving them a one star title will only serve as a badge that they wear with pride as they continue their reign of 1 star terror.

Read again and think about what you just typed.... that would in proper grammar be the same list as everyone else who has posted on the matter

Great, a new flame subject.

Just one request : allow people that turn off star system (lol) to not have the star based title.

the star rating system can be removed through you profile options, have a rumage and turn it off if ya like, i certainly have.

if you mean the star rating titles, which u probably do, then i agree

1. What If I just have my buddies go through and 5 star all my post wont that get me higher up pretty fast?

A: It may help in the short term but the more post ratings you have the less it has an effect on your ranking and will actually hurt you at the Higher post ratings. So the system naturally discourages this type of behavior.

2. What about one star bandits (eq: those that go through one starring every post)

A: Contrary to popular belief, these are 1. rare and 2. have very little effect on the rating or ranking systems. The only thing it hurts is the bandits wrist. It takes 20 1 star ratings to cause a post to be hidden by the default system. Additionally we are putting measures in to be able to track and even "title" these posters so everyone will know who they are. When we findsomeone who abuses the rating systemwe do lower their "rating" weight to prevent abuse.

Hmm, I don't really understand how 1) works. More post ratings = less an effect on ranking?

2) Is interesting, I had no idea it was 20 '1 star posts' to hide a post. Good info! Putting titles on the posters might actually encourage some folks though.

LOL too funny. At last the 1 star bandits will be labeled as such.

Solution to the 1 star bandits..

Not sure if they track each message by who rated what, but if someone 1 stars a post, they should be tracked and if anything tagged at the bottom stating they rated with 1 starw whether they posted a reply or not. That would weed the 1star bandits out pretty quick. I know someone out there hates me because almost ever post I have gets hit w/ a 1star.

A while ago I read from a CSR that the 1-star button was designed to be used to identify posts that qualify for a report (as in they are abusive or violate the EULA).

Since then I have only used the 1-star rating in that way and very rarely - I have used it one one post I felt truly offensive (if memory serves the whole thread was later deleted) and on a few which have been widly off topic in either the In Test or In Concept forums. Could we confirm either if you believe that is an appropriate use of the star system and how you view ratings - one possible suggestion below:

1-star - This post is offensive and should be deleted or is off topic in a controlled thread (e.g. This one!).

2-star - This post adds nothing to the current discussion.

3-star - This post has been useful in some way - i.e. answered a question raised, made a useful suggestion.

4-star - This post is important - It is a key answer to a question, makes a number of useful comments (whether or not the individual agrees with them)

5-star - This post is incredible - If there is one post everyone reads (devs included) it should be this one!

I would recommend if possible that users are only allowed to postONE 5-star rating per 24hours so that this really means something if you can only choose one thread a day.
