Thread: In-Concept Open Discussion (Week Ending 4-12-04)
Here, I have something.....
STOP BEING SO DAMNED CRYPTIC YOU IRRESPONSIBLE **** ** ******
Do you Devs enjoy seeing the community torn apart because one of you idiots spurt something out and never clarify?
The first instance was with the Jedi Revamp issue a while back when it was said that the path will change, and immediatelty chaos ensued. Everyone insisting that they knew what was happening, people putting their whole outlook on hold , people not knowing what to do, everyone running to sell everything thinking that they would be useless and look at us now still able to grind away.
But what about those people who sold all of their holocrons and missed out on so much time to try and unlock their slot because YOU DEVS wouldnt clarify.
And now with this mind pool, everyone is in chaos wondering if it means that mind will not be targetable (which will make pvp take forever and be asinine) , or if it means that mind will be healable (you have to be kidding, can you say infinite mind loop?) or what it means.
Look at the GCW boards, do you DEVS enjoy this? DO you enjoy putting the community at each others throats?
How about if you will not clarify things for the players you just dont say a thing next time.
But just actual treasure would be nice.
I like this idea, also could make it so we could drop it on a desk or place it on a shelf, so other players can come in our business or house and read it. Even hunters could use it, to empart hunting technique or tips to proper hunting, or even small tips one might know that others might not. It could also be used as a dirary, so a player could write down accounts of experiences, and just make it so the data disc can be made public or private.
One thingI have started to notice is the occasional Meusium pop up on some planets. This could be used to place data about an animal or item and then drop it at the display. Players could come in and read about the behavior of an animal. It could be helpful information to a new player or even a player moving up to advanced hunting levels.
You could mak it a loot item, if you dont want to modify a profession in order for it t ba made. When you loot it, it would be identified as a blank writable disc. Choose write to disc from the radial menue.
Of all the things in the game I would like to see fixed, it would be this. At least let me choose to have the second mission to be the same as the mission I am choosing. This means if I choose a Mountian Squill mission to the NE that pays 10646 credits, when I check the box to have this type of mission be my second mission, it duplicates the mission but further awayand in a slight different direction from the first. The second one couldpay 9356 creditsN, NEor E at up to 1500 meters away. Offer us the quicker choice at a payout cost and further distance. I would gladly take a penalty to get on with my mission.
It is a painful thing to see 1.5 hour buffs turn into 55 minute buffs after getting our missions. If I ever cancel my 4 swg accounts, it wont be from the $60 a monthI pay to game with my 3 kids, it will be from the time it takes for us 4 to get 8 missions.I wantto game with my kids, not sit here and talk while we hit the refresh button for 30 to 45 minutes trying to get the same missions in the same general direction. We have been playing SWG for many months and it's getting to when we want toget in 30 to 45 minutes of gaming, we play the X-Box instead of SWG. Where SWG use to be our main form of gaming entertainment, our consoles are starting to move up the latter in choice because we can get right into doing missions or killing each other.
A whole other idea, but, mainly all houses have a predefined wall, floot and ceiling colour. My idea was to be able to give the wall a shader, by selecting the wall and selecting a RGB colour so we can paint our walls! Would bring much more variaty to the game. Imagine a cantina called "da sixties", would be much more sixties if you can turn a wall baby blue, another one pink and a third yellow.
Just an idea.. Didn't know where else to post it.
with the "Crackdown" constantly being the butt end of most peoples game play (more of a spawned faction farm to most rebels), I tried brainstorming on what would make people actually try to avoid the scans, or at least not randomly walk around with the items that cause a TEF. Here's what I came up with.
Imagine that after the scan, if you were tagged as violating the Imperium, you a) fled, or b) killed the Stormtroopers, you were then TEF'd or added to the BH terminals? I mean, an actual Player bounty!
Chances are it would bog down the database to keep a player in the BH list. But if the database can manage factional points, why not bounties?
I understand the OG of this game feel a desire to be "uber," i.e. have visible and tangible proof that they have been around for quite some time.
But the amount of preparation required for quality PVP in SWG, or in any MMO for that matter, drives the average player away from PVP combat.
This leaves PVP to the players that have either the vast quantitiesof time or the uber-macroing abilities to quickly grind missions and professions, earning the cash for Uber Gear, Buffs, Spices, and Slices.
- A fighting games characters have Special Abilities to aid them in Combat. So do our characters.
- A fighting games characters do not gain "levels." Neither do ours.
- A fighting games characters have static Health values. Our HAM values never naturally grow either.
Should SWG's combat be handled like a fighting game? No, probably not, but we do have the makings of a quality combat system OUTSIDE the need for buffs and Uber gear.
As long as our combat system is balanced for the "everyman," then PVP would be fun for newbs and Vets alike, without sacrificing overall quality of gameplay.
And, afterall, this is a game, and fun should be the primary factor before "uberness."
