Anteraan, just wanted to finish up by saying thanks for a reasoned response. You answered my concerns pretty well, so that there's not much need to go round on this stuff again.


Just to conclude: I understand the frustration. There'd be no point in griping if there wasn't a great game here that could be better.In fact, to your frustration I add my own oflooking to SWG to help grow the entire MMOG industry. It had the potential to do so (still does), but the problems with insufficiently thought out and implemented skill-related player abilities are hampering SWG's success, and it's just not clear that this is understood by the powers-that-be (at least in the current CH debate).


So I hope you see that I understand your concerns; I share them; I even go beyond them somewhat. But having said that, I also know that there are no lives riding on these issues.Sure, it's incredibly irritating to some folks to see a system that's "unnecessarily" broken -- there's just something universallyevil about a thing that could work but doesn't. Getting upset about such things is a typical Engineer reaction --I manage a couple of people who reactlike that; I even have some of that kind of reactionin my own personality. (If I see one more TV or print ad that fails to use the correct form of "its"... Grrrrr.)


But it's still important to keep a sense of perspective. Peace in the Middle East is not riding on whether CHs are overpowered; making the Merchant profession worth playing will not cure cancer. It seems to me that strong emotion is best reserved for those aspects of human life that deserve it... and a computer game doesn't make the cut. Outbursts about a virtual world just don't serve any useful purpose (other than allowing one to let off steam, but there's no reason why that needs to be published for the world to see). They just make it harder to work constructively to fix the problems.


I admit to doing this myself, so I'm not in any position to spank anyone too hard. But I'm also not going to pretend that it's a good idea. I think this forum ought to be the Development forum, not the Criticism forum, and that means focusing here on suggesting game improvements and enhancements, not on hollering. This requiresthe occasional description of a problem, but describing a problem in order to fix it is a radically different kind of activity than simply hammering developers on some problem (or even a meta-problem like notsufficiently thinking throughcertain gamefeatures). I just don't think this board will accomplish much if it's simply used in a negative (complaining) way rather than a positive (suggestion-offering) way.


Bottom line: They're the developers; we're just a few interested customers out of hundreds of thousands. They're going to do what they want to do,how they want to do it. All we can do that might possibly influence them is state our concerns clearly and objectively, and offer reasonablealternatives for addressing those concerns. If they take some of those ideas, great; if not, well, no one says we have to keep giving them our money. And life goes on.


UltimatelyI find I get moreof what I want from otherpeople by encouraging them than I doby whacking them on the head with a stick. Positive reinforcement just works better with people, and -- yes -- developers are people, too.Sometimes a stick is necessary... but not as often as we think, and it certainlyisn't effectiveas aprimary form of communication. Ifeveryone alreadyunderstands that, thenI don't needbeat this late horse any further, and we can all go on to morecrucial topics like "When will developers stop tweaking fightersand startaddingmore content for crafters and entertainers?"

To follow my own advice:


Wouldn't it be a Good Thing to have some new threads started in this Development forum? (cough, cough)


We alreadysee a lot ofhighly specific issues being mentioned (usually consisting of someone griping about aproblem with "their" profession). What about the meta-issues -- the problems (or interesting game behaviors) that arise when two or more largesystems interact with each other in unpredicted ways?


For example: is crafting working well in supplying fighters with what they need? There's probably an imbalance here, balance being notoriously hard to achieve -- but on which side is the imbalance? Are crafters profiting unreasonably from fighters? Or are fighters taking advantage of crafters? Or is there so little interaction between the two that the question is meaningless?


Another example: Is healing easy enough to get without being TOO easy to get? In other words, are there enough entertainers, doctors, medics, hospitals, camps, food buffs, and stimpacks availableto keep the fighters fighting (which is what will keep them happy as SWG customers)? Or is it considered too hard to get healing,forcing too many trips back to town and/or too many trips to the cloning center?


Another example: how fast should vehicles go? Way too fast, and players start looking like swoop-riding stormtroopers on Endor, wrapping themselves around trees every five seconds. Somewhat too fast, and players are too easily able to get away from red-dot mobs in their path.Too slow, and vehicles get criticized as barely more useful than running. So what's the solution?


Those are just ideas; any new questions about fixes/enhancements should be welcome. Let's do some Development thinking!

Guess I made a big mistake, I became a MA. OK I have some carbine exp also, levl 4, Novice merchant so I can sell some stuff, and master medic so I can do a bit of healing.


Have, lots if factory crates of components, lots of resoruces stocked, lots of heavy mines working to create more, funds in the bank. Guess what I don't have, SKILL POINTS. Only one character per server, and I am guilded as well, oh well I can leave.


Now what, where do I go? Do I quit and wait for the game to catch up? That's a bummer.


OK, solution incomming: Break the skill points so that a toon can master a craft and a fighting profession. 250 skill points is nothing, heck I was almost a master Doctor at one point. Change skill points so I can move on with something else intresting without giving up my primary profession. I'm stuck, no place to go from here. Lets move on and make things intresting for the Masters, maybe I could also be a droid engineer along with MA or an armor smith as well, why not. Some folks like to have something to do other than fighting, fighting, fighting.




Who said the world had to make sense?

No skill points left and so much to do.

three simple questions:


what is the percentages of developers and mangers in SWG played more that a collective 200 game hours and have tried more than one profession?


has anyone discovered that being overt is better or worse for your gaming experience when you first start?


has anyone looked up the definition of the word "pet" lately?

in my simple humble world of a user and after playing over 200 hours on one server and 20 hours on another.... made me stop playing to sort some things out...


I have found all the comments very illuminating.... reflecting on these posts and searchingthrough my impressions ....I had hoped that my second charater on another server was going to worth developing - without fear of a CH jumping me like on the first server.


Pet Wars is not fun - and being covert is a way to make it from a starport to the cantina -I did not pick up on that when I bought the game ...


I am not a SW zealot - rather a fan - I am just trying to remember which movie that all the pets that suddenly popped out of pockets during a fight.... my five year old will tell youthat I love and build robots ... however a prospect ofDroid Wars intensifies the dis-reality of the game.


I think I saw a comment from SWG that some balance would work it's way into the game again - I hope so.


IDO have 2 pets - one is a gurrcat named after our "inlife" cat - and another a big wolly thing that mostly sits while I feed it for laughs ... after all they are just pets....... I thought the the only animal I wouldNEED is for transportation if I could not afford a vehicle...


PvP is not for sissys - but explain that concept to young kids as you are attacked by 2 storied monsters 2 hours into the game and you die over and over until you really get the idea that being Overt is hazardous to your health .... I know there is a rating on the game ... but really ... 200+ hours has shown this to be common place - go sit at the Theed spaceport for just 1 hour....


Since player cities is on the horizon - I am going to hope the /ban command will keep such silliness out of a town if the playes so desired... the disappointment will be that those so banned will not be able to interact with those huddle masses behind the walls .. but it will allow coverts to feel like being overt for a day ... without being killed or chewed up...


So ... call me silly .. but I am now Overt and looking for the best non-CH pet I can find - and I just might look at the second server charater as a CH - just to be able to consider PvP... or a master architect / politician so I can build and vote them out.... or give in to the masses and create monsters for sale...


I am notin a rush to tell the five year that we can't have more than two pets and I had to let one or both of them go... just so I could survive overt until I reach Commando..... after all this is a game that is enjoyable...


right?


this is not a spiteful post - rather the state of MY game after 200+ hoursand do not reflect anyother persons or groups thoughts or opinions...

I think this info is seriously outdated. Since the recent changes to commando Im 100% it should be in top 5 right now.

Ranger has experienced a big boost too. The last big patch made it a really attractive profession. I see a lot more Rangers now.

How many times must we go over this again and again. Anteraan is right (if that is how you spell his name) just like the thousands of other NON-CH's are.


I mean okay okay...........what is gonna be done about it? I tell you what, NOTHINNG...............SOE does not care about us or what we think.........Mind Tricks don't work on SOE it's a Corporation, only money. Is a corporation an entity, by definition yes it is................but an entity revolved around what? MONEY. That is what SOE cares about that is the only way CH's are gonna get nerfed........................is literally a loss in money due to CH's............................................I hate them all of them...........I hate the fact that they even allowed people to be CH's..................there should be a sepcial CH slot that can be opened similar to the Force Sensative slot and the permadeath should apply to CH's as well so that there would not be a million of them running around all over the **edit** place............................I don't want to play pet wars or droid wars.................I bought STARWARS D@mmit!!!!!!!!!!!! First they have to NERF those ESTUPID ATSTs, or do u want to be a very respetable imp with ur atst... but no pets and no atsts and nothing for the rebels?? LOL.


Chs can solo krayts yes, but they have to work for it VERY hard, and they die a lot of times. An Imp with an ATST can kill them easily....Are u talking about EXPLOITS?? LOL

I would like if they nerf the CH class, because this is not like films, BUT THEN i want somethingin change, or i would leave the game lol, its aLOT of hours expended in getting master ch, they cant destroy our class and say us "thx for playing, now u wil have to start other class" LOL no,it dosnt work in that way.


They should Fix the pistolier class LOL it sux!! specials arnt working.. like disarming shot 1&2 and more LOL.


WE WANT Vehicles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (This is a big problem, im tired of walking, i get sick with this)


And the biggest problem, IM CAPPED. I dont have more SKILL points, what i have to do now?????? i dont know how to be a jedi... im doing all the stupid bored and BROKENED quests.. and nothing...



DEVS we WANT MORE ANSWERS PLS, This is a Great Game but we all will leave it because all people is getting tired....

OK I'm done shouting but this is what I was waiting for is anothe CH to bite........................


Well the AT-ST's have been nerfed and are way underpowered as it is...................Like I said mine got poisoned and died.........



YOUR CREATURES DO NO DIE................it's as simple as that..........your right I could be a CH but I'm trying my best to play Starwars like I said and not **edit** like some kid...............................They can't get rid o the CH profession you are absolutely right.........but something must be done about it...............AT-ST's are already nerfed..........anykid with a flamethrower or other dvanced profession can take them down in an instant................................................My got killed by Creatures however AT-ST's cn burn like no other creature can.........................a rebel get purposly killed by a guy with an AT-ST clones then gears up for the perfect assault.......................actually all he has to do is walk up to the AT-ST and shott ith with a flamecone........the AT-ST will be dead in less than a minute yet you wan them nerfed HA................once it's gone it's gone too. For that was 18,900 faction points dwn the drain.....................that's more faction than most players have even seen........lmao........your pet;s don't burn like that and they don't die........................How can a CH die by soloing a krayt...........only if they get stupid and attack it...........usually they just sit back and relax while there pets do all the work.........once those are down.....wait the time limit.......store them.....keepin the Krayt targeted from 100 m away of course pull out some other pets then send 'em in...................how hard is that?


CH's are rich beyond belief usually too............how hard is that........


I would choose the proffesion but I like to work for what I get and like I said........I'm here to play Starwars not **edit** like you.......lol

Uhm - no one would master the broken classes so these became the most popular...lol


Fix the other ones, uh, Droid Engineer comes to mind just as a start and people will begin to play the class that started all of the movies off ---- too bad we can't create something as monumental in thsi game as R2-D2 and C-3PO....we get to create nerfed Probots and Lame BLL that don't do anthing....

Devs, Holo, Q, Pex especially, once again I will try to draw your attention to the wonderful rp story arc occuring in the player city of Tusken's Bane, near wayfar, on Chilastra. There are numerous posts on the RP forum, and dozens on the chilastra forums detailing our stories...



We've received rave reviews from people across the galaxy.


I was on Dantooine the other day, and some guy who i've never seen came up to me and said "Hey, how can I get involved in the Tusken's Bane storyline?"



On this note, player generated RP events and stories are working. However, as previously mentioned, the tools for implementing and running player run events are non-existant.


So, here is what I propose:


Create a new skill set. Based on abrand new skill point set if it must be, but preferably having all skill points at zero cost. This would be the RP'r class.


At Novice, we gain some new emotes, moods, etc that aid in RP.


Skills necessary to flesh out the RP'r are pretty minor. But skills should be there for the people who actually coordinate events, run missions, quests, etc.


I want to be able to "craft" an NPC who can give out a bit of info when prompted. or trade with a player.


for instance, people in my event are given a token - They are given a destination, and there they find my NPC. they exchange my token for the next bit of storyline.


Now to facilitate this, we need to be able to craft worthless items such as tokens, letters, dossiers, etc that can be used in an RP event. These should have a high decay rate (1 week at max, but at least 24 hours, and not take up space in inventory if possible.


Npcs should be able to be called as a faction pet is called, stored and called from a datapad.


As we get more evolved in our story lines, and use these items more and more, we can progress to newer and better NPCs, with better AI, or scripting. For instance at Novice creative director level, all we can create is a dumb npc who can say 1 simple phrase, such as Greetings Quester! Then they hand the quester a melon, and say "Dude!"


At a higher level, we should be able to create a script that involves 2-3 stages. Greeting, Trade, Story info, and Close.


for example...


"Welcome to the Tusken's Bane Cantina, are you here on a quest?" (player can select yes or nevermind)


if Yes, The npc gives the intro to the quest, "I heard that Ichiir was seen out near the Sarlacc Pit a few hours ago. You know, Tarryn has a bounty out on his head, but the rest of the townfolk are trying to save him. If you find him before Tarryn's Bounty Hunter, i'm sure the townfolk would be willing to reward you. Are you interested?"


Player selects yes, then is given a note. The note tells the player to search out Kryibacca, who is leading the rescue attempt, or look for Tarryn, to accept the bounty.


This note would then be exchanged to the next step PC or NPC , furthering your quest, and disallowing you from changing your mind, and going the other direction.

Currently I am planning a quest like this, but having to coordinate with 20-30 players just to help me run the quest is a logistical nightmare. I'm planning on drawing a crowd in excess of 100 people for the event, and NPCs, quest items and such would really assist us in the planning and developement.


This would be a way for the Dev's to throw us RP'rs a bone, keep us happily developing our own content, with a minimal investment. It would be cheaper to allow us to create our own content than it would to implement it yourselves.



Imagine how many creative RP'rs, GM types are out here in a player base of 300,000+ users. Now imagine creating, and running content that has to be accessible to all of us. Nearly impossible. The best you could do is flat one dimensional delivery and destroy missions. However, give us the tools to Create events for 20- 100 people. If 10 people ran events on every server, about 1-2 per person per month, and reached 100 people at their events, thats 2000 people per server who would be experiencing active dynamic rp events.


I suspect those estimates are very low. I would expect 90% of the player cities to want a creative director, and at least 50% of the PA's to want them as well. This will sustain playability and the fun level of this game, with MINIMAL COST and DEV ATTENTION.


All we need is the tools...we'll provide the roleplaying and the content.




The dev team would never allow any kind of imbalance so that one group of people would "cut swaths" through crowds of people.

I think the addition of the CH profession is great and interesting.


what frustrates me and angers me is that I feel as though I'm FORCED into this profession just so I can do some of the more mundane things in the game.


...Want to check out the Rebel Ruins Dantooine? you have to run cross country for quite awhile carefully trying to avoid all the very angry critters out there.


Can you take them head on? I can't. And I dont see any other options in the game OTHER then to go head to head with everything.


Mask Scent is the closestthing to "Sneak" I've found but it always seems to fail and force an attack, so I try to live without it that majority of the time lately.


Cant outrun (which isn't unreasonable really for many of the critters but then there is warping for even those that you can) the Huurton's and the Voritors can see you at 100m and then appear on top of you (the infamous pathing-fix...


blasting away with a weapon of some kind is something of a joke (didn't the storm troopers in the movies go down in one hit?), again demonstrating that head to head seems to be the only way to go),


armor doesn't really seem to protect me from anything, I still can't run fast enough or far enough with the extra protection (cuz I sure can't fight with it on) before I'm incapped and killed and have to start thejourney over again,


can't take advantage of superior terraint (stand atop a building and shoot down), yet the melee based Voritor still incapps my 800k-ish HAM in onlya couple seconds.


Moving in larger groups only seem to increase the chances of attack (which makes SENSE. It SHOULD do that) and result in my death and starting the 6k hike over again...


The only chance I have of winning these fights (by "winning" I simply mean, "To Be Able To Continue My Journey Without having To Start The Whole Tedious Process Over Again") is to throw a cat at the aggressor, keep healing it and hope the baleful eye of the critter doesn't turn on me.


I really dont mind things being hard, or the long road to an achievement... what I dont like is being optionless. Without a pet, star wars galaxies isn't fun due to having to repeat tedius aspects (running running running get in a fight, die, running running running).
