Thread: In-Concept Open Discussion (Week Ending 3-1-04)
Dear developers,
I have recently become a doctor and I'm loving it. However, one thing I've noticed is that novice doctors seem to be a little unsure about the harmful effects of enhancements. Could an enhancement cancelling serum be created, or an enhancement consent window ok "to continue box" be created?
Another question, this time about faction points. A lot of members from our PA like doing nothing other than PvP. Since faction points can only used as 'trade in' at recruiters or delegated to other players. Will faction points ever be made available as a form of currency?
I know there is already a system in place where smugglers can trade faction points, but ideally could we not make better use of this feature by creating terminals. These terminals could be used by both smugglers and the public. Players offer their faction points for sale (buyable only by smugglers), smugglers can buy them and then re-sell on the terminals to anyone wishing to buy them.
Hi,
what'd i suggest :
- enough of templates (dabbling). I suggest you cannot mix two ADVANCED combat profession. By doing this, you give a chance to anyone, stop the templating system (well you reduce it). The classes would be Combat, Support, Social, Craft.
- enough of the full buff + combo reducing rancors lairs to bits (related to dabbling i guess mainly)
- more Crackdown : i'm fed up of seeing those Stormtroopers reduced to bit by farming "Emain style" rebels. I want to see people harassed !!!!
Devs as a new player one of the problems i have is the datapad sytem of storing pets/ speeders/ ATST's
i mean it really doesnt work does it a guy can just whip out a pet rancor or an AT ST out of thin air on a whim in the middle of the city.
in major towns you should have a Stable/Creature habitat where u can keep ur pets, a garage for storing speeders and a Military compound where u can store militray items such as ATST's and maybe a droid workshop where u can keep ur droids. Of course you are chargrd for this per item and how expensive it is to keep them..think how much it would cost to huse, keep and secure a rancor. In smaller towns u might only have one of the ablve. Then when u require them you have to go get them and then return them to that city. If you want to transport them to another planet you have to pay for them to be flown and stored at the city you deisire. And whenever you go to retrieve them it takes time probably 5 mins or so to retrieve them.
If you dont get your pet/droid/speeder out and take i with you then tuff luck you cant just whip it out at the nearest campsite.
And if u have taken one of the baove with you it has to stay out all the time until u get back to the city and store it. Should you die with one of the above then it stays in the wild and is available for any passers buy to take until you can return there or animals will return to the wild
This would make pets/Droids/speeders and the like actually be treated as real life items and not somthing you can pull out and store way at your convinience, items like these are beneficial and there should be certain conditions to balance out the benefits with the risk of losing one of the above items.
If u want an uber rancor you get the benefits but u also get the cost involved and the fact should you die you would most certainly lose it, would make the use of these more inline as it should be.
I have trust that the devs still want their game to be different from all other MMO's and will make all future content consistent with the ideals espoused in the prelaunch concepts.
Why Are We All So short Sighted!
Not sure if this idea is a) practicle or b) wanted.
But one thing that has been bugging me for a while is the difference in the draw distances of player civic structures, shuttle ports, city halls, et all and player houses.
Player houses pop up when you are practicaly on top of em making player cities not look as cool as they could. While Civic structure have a reasonable draw distance, about half that of fixed game world items.
I realise that the probable reason for this is that memory is limited in the client and having to load up all thoses buildings at a greater range would make some older machines gulp. That being said if draw distance was a setable paramiter you could adjust it to suite your machine.
If i ride around our city, Aartan Ridge, on my speederand force the game to load all the sturctures into memory the city looks amazing for about 20 seconds until all the houses that are outside of the draw distance disapear again. i don't get any slow down, prooving my machine can handle a larger draw distance than SWG is throwing at it.
Now some will probably say that this is an unemprotant issue and compared to some of the stuff that the dev team is doing atm it is.
But think how cooler the whole of SWG would look if you could see all of your player town. How much easyer would it be to drive around if buildings didnt keep poping up in front of you.![]()
I'd love to see a slider for draw distance of player structures. It would make the whole game seam more real if we coule eliminate or at least reduce the poping buildings.
Please TH ask the Devs if we can get a nice pair of glasses each.![]()

SWG CLASSIFIEDS SYSTEM
Myself and a guildmate came up with an idea to solve the spamming of shop coordinates and various items, along witheasy access to player events and other in-game advertisments. We hate the idea of traveling from planet to planet, city to city, shop to shop, looking for what we need, whether it be grade-A weaponry or grinding resources, whenwe don't know where to find things. Leaving the game to check the forums for what's going on on our server can also be a pain. Sometimes we just spend hours looking for items which takes away from more fun things we could be doing. So, we decided maybe a "Classifieds" system should be added to the game. The ideas were as follows:
- Each major city or area would have a classifieds stand that sells a daily paper containing player ads limited to however many words, with coordinates to their shop or tent, and a brief description of items sold (for that planet only)
- Other ads could be place also, of course limited to so many words, i.e. player city advertisements or player events
- Players would pay a small fee to have their ads placed for x amount of days
There would be no more running around looking for shops with the overhead map...no more looking for vendors that dont' even shown on the map...you'd never have to leave the game to check the forums about player cities or player events...and most importantly, very little shop spammage outside of highly laggy populated areas.
