Thread: Weekly Roundtable Discussion (Week Ending 4-12-04)

Those weekly table topics are just an insult to the SWG game community.

Everybody complains about the combat balance being again postponed, that the very core of the game makes it dull after mastering your professions.

Some classes are just being ignored (yes i was a Ranger before), some are just laughed at by 'false' patch (DE).

And the worst is : WE KEEP TELLING THEM WHAT'S WRONG. For useless "Wait and see" answers.

My 0.2 credits : They'll be pushing the SE very soon, so this will be glitter in our eyes, while nothing really change.

Weapon Repair is still totally fubar. I posted this one in a previous week's round table discussion but want to make sure it is getting attention. I am a Master Weaponsmith. I have 100% effectiveness weapon repair tools. I even have +10 weapon repair skill bonus. Out of the last 14 repairs that I have done, ONE resulted in minor blemishes. All the rest resulted in loss of max condition of the item. Granted I have not failed and destroyed any items, but I was having much better results before Publish 7 with 99% repair tools and no weapon repair skill mods. Would be nice to see this stealth nerf commented on or better yet... FIXED!

Well, perhaps you should not take this as an insult but stop wasting time fixing stuff like junk vendors and regroup a bit. You have a bunch of major game systems that are broken, and you fix the ones like crafting that nobody has a real problem with.

I feel bad for you guys because you are creating stress for yourselves that you don't need.

We all want you to do well and keep this game interesting for us but if you don't stop swapping devs (combat dev to SE? oops....) and working on little systems that either aren't broken or aren't being complained about (for valid reasons) then even those of us with patience are going to lose it and move on to other games where things like combat function properly....

However just to let you know I am greatful. I enjoy the game and it has grown a lot since the second day of going live when I first created my character.

I think I asked 3 times why you were planning to ask the correspondents for new top issues lists when the previous lists are still valid.......... again, I ask........ why? ........... are you trying to wear us thin? .......... do you guys know anything about psychology?........ I, along with many others in the community have tried so very hard to help you guys fix the game......... many of my friends have burnt out in the process........ many very very valuable minds and compassionate people have quit while be patient for progress... only for so long will a painful patient answer his/her doctor's question of 'where does it hurt' with the same answer over and over before the patient moves on to another practitioner....... a month ago my hopes for this game increased greatly, however in the past 3 weeks those have diminished to almost rock bottom.........

please do not ask us what we want again until you are ready to deliver something

TH

I recently read your post about some low level coding changes that will allow players to completely hide their online status.... please let your programmer know that there is, and will likely be, a trick to tell when anyone comes online... even if one is not online at the time the other person comes online... I speak of

/tip <playername> 1 bank

if <playername> is offline, then one will receive a mail that confirms the delivery of the tip as soon as <playername> logs on.... I doubt your programmer has taken this into consideration....

thanks

Ok, I first want to appologize for my dour post earlier. I was down at the time. But im better now. ...see? But my point is going to stay the same.

Right now the thing that frustrates me is things have been promissed, things have been promoted, things have been glamourized, and when it comes down to it....they dont happen. THe reason for this seems fairly obvious to me, if I'm correct that is, and that is that the devs are tryikng to say "see? it's gonna get better...look what we're doing!" and then later they throw out a different bone..but in the end ....you wind up with a yard full of bones and a rather starved dog because it never really gets to eat anything. That big juicy steak never pops up...even in test center. Now at this post by q-3po, things were mentioned that had really excited me and other players. Im bringing this up becasue quite simply, im throwing out a dare: Put your (ours actually) money where your mouth is.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=565036&highlight=bounty#M565036

First off, the whole bonus idea sounded great. In fact as I recall, the devs at one point said that a version had been introduced. I never saw any evidence of any combo system (oh wait it was wepps who said the devs said that). It would make PvP more interesting, if things like HAM andother stuff were hammered out. Becasue right now PvP is way too fast. (IMHO)

The idea for the speeds was well lied as well. Im seeing rifles fire as fast as a carbine should, and carbines are going as fast as pistols. This is simply put...crap. In the SW universe, rifles were NOT fast shooters, and they were HORRIBLY inaccurate against moving targets as well (read the wraith squadron series has good info on rifles in fact). Make rifles slower, powerful, and good for sniping instead of being used in up close combat. If a target is at 15m and moving..that rifle should never make a hit. (agian, IMHO)

Carbines: YES fix the freaking HAM issue. In PvP you cant use specials if you areant buffed, which is NOT how the game was meant to be at ALL. Fix the speed, and take care of the HAM. Again, there is no difference between a carbine and a pistol right now.

Melee is all something that i now nothing about as im not a melee class person. However, the whole idea of raising the melee range is ridiculous. Come on..melee means MELEE. 5m should be too long for melee. Come on...if you're using a sword, knife or your hadns and feet....you're supposed to whack people around 20m away? Get real. Melee is meant for the big engagements and hunting stuff where you get up close and personal. And when melee vs ranged....burst run

Commando, this has been dealt with mostly, but for one never saw defense vs flame in anyone's boxes. Am I wrong?

Bounty Hunter: GIVE US EYE SHOT BACK. Hell, do as you SAID you wanted to do and move it to master. Right now the master slot has one useful skill. ONE. Give us somethign worthwhile. YEs the original eye shot was over powered, but not for master BH. Give us our original kick a$$ shot back, stick it in the Master box as you said, and let us be happy. Also, the LLC thing...yeeaa....you never gave us any weapons, the llc is still useless in PvP (though i confess it does well at PvE) especially with the 80-90 percent electricity defense we run across. yes, give us BH specific weapons. If we spend the most points BY FAR on our proff..we should get something unique...the llc is NOT unique. Nor very useful. The issue with BH vs Pistoller. Yes you are right, a BH vs a MP WITH other supporting skills such as TKM or something should not be a always win system. But the problem is that someone with Master Pistoleer and NOTHING else still has the ability to own up on a MBH with out breaking a sweat. THats ridiculous.

Ok, Im done. Bassicly all these great ideas were thrown forth....but NEVER happened. The board this came from was FULL of support for it all...but it NEVER happened. Do we need to flame/criticise your ideas to get it implemented or what? The post is 7 MONTHS old with 24 THOSUAND views. YOu ahd a lot of people worked up over the ideas...yet it never happened.

Simply put for the end: We dont want new things. THey are nice, look good, and fun for the time it takes to complete them, but give us what we need and what you promise. I dont mind things going slow. I do mind being mis-directed, as it feels that has happened many times. FLame/Comment away.

There is currently an 85% weapon repair failure rate in place since the last patch. 17 out of 20 repairs will reduce a weapons max condition by 20% or more. Or, put another way: a brand new 1000 condition weapon can be expected to be reduced to on half (512) after just 3 repairs.

data has been provided.

Ok, another one. Different topic. This is on a different system of SWG and that is on the group/looting system. Right now there is a problem. I'll use Victor's quest, the new defender of Bestine on Corbantis. He give's a quest to go out and bring back the head of a certain tuskan executioner. This tuskan has 240K HAM. Ok, great. A challange. I like challanges. The problem, go to the tuskan fort, and just today i saw 6 afk looters along with the other camps sitting around fighting these tuskans. Well, no surprise I didnt get anything, depsite diving into the fight with everything I had. I was shooting, healing, and shooting some more all over the place. In the end I got nothing. At all.

Purpose: The current system of HAM promotes group effort, especially for the combat classes that dont fare so well or player snot very leveled. Well, that's all well and good. But if you are going to make people work together to defeat something, everyone's effort should be rewarded...NOT just the person with the fasted internet connecton and macro setup. Im on dialup when i play (56k at work, 26.4kbs at home) and no surprise...I NEVER get a loot. Not fair...sooooo not fair.

Solution: You cant just make it so everyoen gets a copy of the loot generated, because then the market would be flooded with "rare" itemes. And the afk macro'ers....they would simply get even more. However, everyone still deserves a piece of the pie. So, let someone fight and loot something that they helped kill, and have a stat in the computer for each player (not online so you cant get any pathetic cell issues) that monitors what somone has killed in the unique category (krayts, kimos, albatross's, rancors) and bassicly you can still fight the creature, but for a period of say,...2-3 hous you cant get any loot from it. Either that, or make it so that everyone does get a copy of the loot each time, but the loot is simply INSANLY rare. I think the first idea is the best. That way you always have the ability to get the loot from something you helped kill, but you cant get too much, and you cant get jipped.

Personally, I feel the riflemen have been nerfed enough thank you. Lets not call for nerfs on other classes, Instead lets see them fixed instead.

Yes, FIX Carbineer, Its a joke as is, fix the HAM Costs, Speed that puppy up.....

Fix Rifleman, I Agree, we should be Lousy shots at 15m.... but we should be able to hit a Moving target at 80 Meters like a CM With poison

Fix Pistoleer, Give MAD Bonuses for close range...a Master Pistoleer at 10m should never miss, However, a pistoleer at 64m should hardly ever hit and do such a Minumal damage as to be somewhat comical...

Put some reality back into the weapons classes, right now the only differences are the specials(And associated costs)and the Pixels.

Lemme lay this out fer ya:

  • Pistol= Highpowered close quarter weapon, Highly ineffective at medium-Long range 30m+ with Speed caps around 1.5

  • Carbine= Medium powered Highspeed weapon Most effective at Close to medium ranges firing at anything beyond 45m should be at a great - to hit and to damage. Speed cap..?? Uhh None.

  • Rifle= Highpowered Medium-Long range weapon IMHO Should be able to take a Rebel commando/ STC's head off at 40-100m and have a Speed cap at MASTER of no faster than 2.5/3

And as far as PvE... **edit** is with a Melee damage hitting me at 60m?

I've all but given up on this game... Serious, IF I Log in, I Sit in my house, or in my front yard and Just guildchat..... there is no "play".

to the devs, wheres the combat system overhaul? wheres all of the crap youve been promising for months and months (Almost a year now)

Get yer sh|t together... The boat is sinking, the exodus has Begun and you are soon to be Unemployed.

Hmm, actually now that I think about it after reading your post, you could add in a completly different dynamic of gameplay to combat by having distance effect damage. In "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" Boba Fett and Han Solo stand man to man holding guns on each other . Boba says Han cantdodge and Han says Boba's armor wont stop the shot at that range. I kinda like the idea of a Rifleman not being able to hit at close range (15-30m) while having Insane damage at (35-50m) but still having somewhat poor accuracy while having heavy damage at long range (50-80m) After..65 meters as a max range is crap.

The nthrow the same logic at carbines and pistols, each able to fire at same range as a rifle, but simply put, pistols will do may be 1-5 points at damage at 80m while carbines do only a bit more. CLose it in to the curent long range (30-65m) and have carbines rule.Heavy damage with moderate speed and accuracy. At close range they will have more heavy damage..but accuracy will be poor, though not impossible like with a rifle.

Pistols would bounce off armor kinda at max range (80m or so)while missing like nothing else (forget hitting a target) while at the 30-60m range they will simply be poor accuracy with poor damage (not pathetic though) while at (0-20m)they will deal moderate-heavy damage atlightningquick speeds withincredible accuracy.

This is an issue I think is highly ignored, yet very important to the Starwars feeling. Species Demographics.

As many of you might have noticed when visiting a Rebel facility, a majority of the NPCs are either Rodian, Bothan, or Twi'lek. However, Starwars.com clearly states that these species had a policy of not joining the Rebellion, and it only occured in small numbers. Rodians don't believe in alligiance to a cause or government other then themselves. Bothans didn't side either, rather concentrating on their intelligence network that worked for the highest bidder. Twi'leks arn't even freely allowed off their homeworld, and the tribal leaders told Twi'leks to not side in the conflict (but a few were attracted to the personnal gain of benefits from the Empire). Thecurrent display of the Rebellion is ridiculous because of this, and makes the game incredibly less realistic. Also, these three species appear a lot more common in the game then they should, and are doing jobs and assignments that are atypical of their species values. I still don't understand why so many Bothan Diplomats are out in the wild hanging around (?).

There are other silly things too... like Wookiee and Mon Calamari Imperial Colonels. It is nice to see Wookiees getting their armor though. Why can't male Twi'lek wear lekku wraps? And when will we see Mon Calamari and Twi'lek specific armor headpieces? A lot more should be done in creating a cultural identity for each species, and providing more species specific equipment and advantages. It would be nice to see maybe a few Bothan embassies, slaver rebellion movements (Twi'lek, Wookiee, Mon Calamari),species specific mercenary corperations (Trandotian, Rodian, Zabrak), and radical Imperial driven racist movements (Human)... that all identify to what it means to be the certain species, and they could provide roleplaying tips and information. In addition, it might be wise to create species specific forums and player coorespondants, to help trade ideas and traditions.

I really don't think enough pressure is being placed on players to identify with the alien they play (Yes, even the humans/corelliansare technically alien to us).
