Would it be eaiser to change the colour of the person's name instead of adding an icon? Even change the person's name colour in the group window. That way you can see the change even if they aren't in your field of view.

I think icons like that should probably be group or same faction/neutral faction only, at least a "badly wounded" icon anyway. I could see people in PvP using that to their advantage. Other icons could be an icon for LFG, icon for doctor on duty and entertainer on duty so people could easily identify this in the med centers and cantinas. Maybe an icon for people who are looking to sell their wares and trade. As you have said, you definitely need to be able to turn these icons off and on, would be nice to be able to select which ones you would want on and off too.

First of all, this system should be only viewed by players who have medic habilities. The others dont really need to see that.

Second, Medics dont need to know the battle fatigue status and mind wounds. Aswell the entertainers dont need to see that.

It can be an abiliy for medics ? Ability which grow with the skill advancement i think. (low level medics cant heal strenght wound i think. unless they have the adequate stimpack ?)

How to turn that on/off, i think about something like maskscent. When you use the ability you are able to directly see the status of people over their head or something.

The aspect of that... There is 6 bars (health, action, strenght, stamina...) What about showing a 6 bar icon ? like in fights.

I have been messing around with Medic also and I find it annoying that I can not heal some people because of TEF, but whats more annoying is that I can not tell who I can or can not heal because of TEF. I'm Neutral on this character so there is no way to tell. I am sure that if I was to choose sides I would also have the same problem compounded by not being able to heal wounds from fellow members without getting a TEF also.

Nice idea--just make sure it works only witihin groups and is not visible to enemies.

The group target idea is great. I've noticed that the way the target system works now, when you /assist, it seems to initiate combat with the other player's target, but it doesn't change your reticle to that target, so you can't always tell who you're firing at. This could use some adjustment. If this aspect was fixed, then I'd say make the additional icon a squad leader ability, just to add more relevance to their profession.

They could be useful, but players should have the option of turning them on/off in two ways:

1. Turn off on themselves so that noone can see them.

This would get around the PvP problem. If you feel it would make you a target, you'd just turn your wound symbol off. If you think the benefits of healing outway the disadvantage, you turn it on. It could be an option in a menu, though I'd like the ability to bind it to a key too.

Possibly as a way to deal with PvP balance, people could only see the health symbols if they display a symbol.

2. Players can turn them off so that they can't see anyone's symbol.

Incase they become annoying. Though if you have to be wounded to have a symbol (no symbols for healthy people), or a target of a group, then I can't see they'd be too bad. Wounded symbols would be best as visable to everyone (assuming the player can hide it), and have targeting as a squad leader benefit.

As a side issue to this, there is currently no easy way for a player to target themselves and see what is floating above their heads. If the symbols come in, I think that'd be pretty important. Having a silly title or an afk tag because you forgot to change it back is a minor inconvienience, but not being able to see you have a symbol up could cause a lot more problems, especially in PvP.

Why don't you give players a /callmedic command that alerts their groups medics of their conditions and maybe allows them to heal over a bit of a distance or gives them some bonuses.

I realize there is alot of potential exploits with this, but it can be done. Maybe only high level medic/medic-classes can respon to a call like that and the number of people who can call for a medic whithin a group might be limited.

Icons I'd like to see over peoples heads are:

  • Bio icon — Player has a written bio for the character.

  • RP & LFG icons — Eliminate the lengthy text identifiers and replace them with icons. Keep the (HELPER) though as Newbies aren't likely to recognize a newbie helper icon.

  • Rank Icon — Visible to faction members only. Shows either classical rank symbols (e.g. three stripes for Sargeant and two bars for Lieutenant) or made up symbols.

No Icon. Make a Medic ability "Examine Patient" or something similar that allows them to see ALL the wounds to a player. Even secondary and teriary wounds.

Both of those are grand ideas...

It would also be nice if you had a special icon over the heads of PC's who were bleeding, poisoned or diseased...

This is taking away the dialogue that should occur between a patient and a medic/doctor. If you are wounded, you should seek out medical attention and pay for it. Do not give people another reason to expect medical attention without askingwhile in the tavern/hospital.

My opinion with that is, I am responsible for those in my group/PA first and foremost. If you are within the boundries of my area-stim and get healed, lucky you. I do not as a rule chase people around, you want healing, stay close to the medic.
