Thread: Cantina Events Need suggestions.
the trivia night works great. i had everyone buddy up in teams of 2-4, then groupchat the answers and send me tells within 45 seconds. then everyone got a point for the right answers. the team with the most points wins...
musical chairs is a little tougher. you have to have a band and admin rights to the building. we had all these chairs set up and as long as the band played we had to be moving around. then, when the band stopped (good idea to use a /pausemusic with the band) everyone had to sit in a chair. whoever owned the joint would just pick up a chair then. it's kinda hard if you had a nice placement to rearrange all the furniture, but it sure is fun!
our cantina holds events every Monday night. we call it our open mic night. sometimes it's just a starting point for hunters, they can sit and get buffed before going out. other times it's a total social event. last week, we had a mixer with another player city. it was a blast!
good luck to you with your cantina events! keep us posted if you have any great ideas! (we love to steal them for our own servers!)
Thank you so much for these ideas. Please continue to post them as perhaps we can help each other out.

Wow, these are great ideas!
I just recently took over my city's cantina. The previous owner pretty much gave up on it, and was even just going to destroy it to get her lots back.
Now that I have it I realize she pretty muchran it into the ground. No one comes by.
It just so happens that I have a copy of StarWars Trivial Pursuit
I think I'll have to announce it!
Did you give a prize out at the end? Should there even be one? What about an entrance few to the cantina during the event? I'm new to running a cantina so, like Jasmin, I'm looking for advice
Thanks everyone!
The Red Lekku does not charge an entrance fee, we don't seem to need one. Everyone in our city is very helpful and donates a lot of items for prizes, decoration, etc. Also, the owner has a side business of running the bar, so that helps bring in some revenue.
If you are trying to revamp a cantina, my suggestion would be to hold a lot of events, either weekly, bi-weekly, whatever, just as a social occasion. Send out invites to your citizens and encourage them to come meet other players. Even if you just plan a meeting place to send everyone out on a hunt. After a while, they will get to expect someone in the cantina, and will stop by more frequently. Also, if you hold a regular event, everyone can kind of schedule their time around that.
Members of our city have also suggested in the past a few other events. They require a bit more planning, and as such, we haven't been able to hold them yet. Some ideas include: fashion shows, Miss/Mr. Galaxy contests, pod races, battle of the bands, sports bar/droidball events (a good one for football/basketball season), and also scavenger hunts.
Good luck with your event planning. I hope you cantina does well.
Something that is becoming popular at our local cantina is what I call, for lack of a better term, Roleplaying Night. Once a week or so we set aside a night where everyone who comes into the catina has to be very much in character. You only know what your character would know, speak in character, act in character, the whole bit. We try to have a patron (who rotates through the night) wait by the front door and make sure everyone going in knows it is an in character environment. We always have 20 or 30 people in the cantina for nearly the whole evening (US time), sitting in groups and talking.
You might see a smuggler doing business in the corner, or a group of hunters planning a safari to bag a certain animal. It is a lot of fun and, of course, it gives us entertainers a golden oportunity to ply our craft. Flirting with the customers, sometimes being paid for information if I have heard or seen anything. From my point of view on stage it looks like a scene right out of the movies.
The trivia evening idea is brilliant. I posted a brain-teaser in guild chat a few weeks back and suddenly, people woke up and joined in! They really enjoyed it. I never thought of having a trivia evening in the cantina - thanks for the idea! =D
Also, I love the idea of the roleplaying night, especially since we have some roleplayers in the guild. I can't wait to tell them!
