Thread: If you see a BuffBot, Please Contact Them!

It's not my suggestion to be confrontational. However, it IS my contention that many of the public buffbots (found in NPC cities such as Coronet and Theed, as well as the DantooineMining Outpost) are simply the alternate characters of successful PvPers or guild leaders that have little knowledge of the harm they bring the profession. Many are tired of looking for dancers and musicians that are at the keyboard for any other reason than updating their hologrinding macro. Frankly, I don't blame them, and had often used guild- or city-promoted buffbots tucked away in hidden homes before taking up the Dancer profession on Ahazi. I fully understand the frustrations of attempting to prepare for a raid and finding nobody to prepare the riflemen, or coming across a combat medic while low on mind.

However, most of these buffbots are willing to lend a sympathetic ear and can often be convinced to either a) move to a private location for limited use by only those that are informed of their presence, or b) fully surrender their buffbot profession for something else. Whether they're afk or not, I would suggest that entertainers (you don't have to be a master) send them an email outlining the basic disagreement with their choice (politely please). I often direct them to these Dancer andMusicianforums for more information and the option to voice their support of macroed buffs if they feel the need to do so.

Many that you contact will be extremely friendly and voice their sympathies for your cause. If approached correctly, most will agree that the macros take business from those that want to actually entertain.

Then again, some may resist the notion that they're bringing harm to those that want to play the profession as it was intended. Stand firm and don't feel as though you have to concede immediately. If they feel the need to get heated, remain calm and direct them to the forums once again. Emphasize community feelings toward the issue, and don't make it personal. If they remain where they are, try rallying support from fellow atk entertainers. (Dancers and musicians bad-mouthing a buffbot in spatial isn't recommended, but try elaborating your point in spatial to involve other entertainers around you. Get their attention and get them to chime in beforehand!)

My point is the following: Many buffbots have no idea what they're doing to us. If the issues are clearly outlined to them, they may be willing to make concessions, meeting us at least halfway. Try to make friendly contact with your neighborhood buffbot

They do know what they're doing to our profession... look at Doctors... if anyone started giving away free doctor buffs AFK in Coronet/Theed/ Every other major Doctor venue, Doctors would be up in arms... however for some to do this... they would need an infinite or near infinite cash flow to pay for the buffs...

Our buffs on the other hand cost "Time" a resource that alternate characters have in endless supply... I think they know what they are doing and don't give a damn. I highly recomment you take a look at this post, if you haven't already.

Oh, I've readthat particular threadand many justlike it. I'm not disagreeing with the diagnosis. However, we can do our best to curb a few of the symptoms while we (endlessly) wait for a cure for the common buffbot. Believe me, it works. Several buffbots have left the Mining Outpost on Dantooine as a result. New ones pop up again (of lesser quality, since they've never done it before), but people are beginning to look for the atk entertainers and talk to them in larger numbers. You can get alot of attention if you speak to the patrons and grab their interest. Some may use you for the buffs you can give, then take the stubborn or new buffbots to finish off the set. Just give it a shot. It works.

Imagine a group of dancers sitting around in a circle, an older gentleman sitting at one end gestures toward a young brunette and annouces that the group has a new member. The young brunete stands up and says, "Hi, my name is Guen and I am a recovering buffbot".

I was one of the buffbot's to whichEira sent an email and because of that email, I came to the forums and read the various opinions and comments regarding buffbots. And I will respect the majority opinion and not run the buffbot in public cantinas and hotels anymore.Though I would like to explain myself, I had only created the macros for the buffbot last weekend not with any malice intent, but instead to help people out. You see, over the weekend, I went to Dantooine because some friends needed mind/focus/willpower buffs and while there, I had requests for additional buffs because no one was available in the cantina. You see, I became a Master Dancer/Master Musician not just for the social aspects, but because I like to help people. So, to me, I felta responsibility to provide a service. Not for credits, not to harm anyone, but simply to help. I was not aware of the communities opinion on buffbots and as I said before, I will no longer run the macros in a public facilites. So please keep in mind, some of the buffbots out there may be like I was, simply trying to help people out.

I do have one point of disagreement with Eira and that would be the the comment regard the newer buffbots being 'lesser quality'. (cough cough) IMHO, the last buffbot on Dantooine that you contacted was the best.

I have a buffbot and she resides in our city cantina. If ANYONE who is a master dancer and/or musician, on the Bria server and Imperial in faction, wishes to move in on her territory, SEND ME/HER A TELL!

I actually resurrected a second account and created a dancer/musician for our guild after I searched cantinas throughout the galaxy looking for someone who needed a place to call home. Not only that, but I posted msgs in all three entertainer forums.

Of course, I DO play Tija when I can find the time. I love the entertainment professions. I just prefer PvP. And I try to attend the Cantina Crawls when I can. If I could find a full-time entertainer so I wouldn't have to play a semi-buffbot... that would be swell

/cheer Eira!

Good thing you're doing here, I think.

And welcome to the forums, Guen. We actually "met" last night in the Dantooine Mining Outpost, but you didn't know that... you were AFK. You were, in fact, in my solo group for a number of hours, after the group leader invited you to do free buffs for everyone interested, forgot to kick you from group, then ran off to Dathomir. He actually didn't tie you up maliciously... he was just forgetting everything, like transferring group leadership before leaving.

I am so tempted to relate what happened last nightin group chat here, so that buffbots know what other players think and feel about them (at least from this one group of around 17)... but I won't out of courtesy to Guen...

Lol, you were a sweetheart indeed You weren't completely afk either. I actually had a bit of respect for you, just didn't agree with the macro announcement that made it sound as though you were simply there to buff. I enjoyed chatting with you off and on through the night. The quality to which I referred is the kind that comes with experience. (Bypassing the /join feature by working through specific invite lists, well-written scripts explaining step-by-step processes in simple English, using the /disband command to ensure availability, etc.

I'm extremely happy that you would consider changing locations on the behalf of the Dancer community! It truly pleases me to see people such as yourself step forward and give us another perspective. All too often I come across those that have absolutely no regard for the playstyle of others ( Merck ), and feel let down by our community. Thankfully, people such as yourself, Hardware, and Flo'Pit (who has moved to the point of urging customers to use atk Dancers and Musicians when at all possible) lift my spirits again. Thank you.

Well, see, A'ri there's that little problem of faction, again! Now, here in oursleepy town of Veritas we have plenty of live entertainers . . .

Thanks for the welcome. You will still occasionaly see me on Dantooine in the future, but currently I am back on Corellia working on my hotkeys, macros and new clothes. I am testing the timing for fast buff (buffs when I have doc buffs) and slow buffs (buffs when i do not have doc buffs), plus improvements to my dance/music performance. (Sidenote:with a certain combination of flourishes on a horn, I was able to produce possibly the worst sounding music ever). Previously, I had never gotten doc buffs, but after Eira 'stole' my customers the other night because of her fast buffs and skimpy outfit , I have taken a few nights off to rework my performance. Actually, I learned a lot the other night just watching Eira interact with customers so most of my work is experimenting with emotes andvarious 'social' commands. Though I think I will concentrate on the Music buffs if she is working Dantooine Mining Outpost next time I am there.

HAhahah! You're in the wrong guild AND are of the wrong faction! What is WRONG with you gurl?!?!

Sounds like we need to come wake up Veritas I'm not allowed in your cantina so I would be honored if you'd bring the entertainment outside. Although... Tija could visit unmolested!

Has anyone contacted a buffbot and had success? I would imagine they don't care what the other entertainers think.
