I logged in tonightin the vain hope to have a little fun dancing... I get a tell immediately from someone I have never heard of wanting a buff. I tell him sure, I can buff you if you want, I'll meet you in the cantina. So, I suck down an accaragm or two, dance my sweet little butt off for4 mins while chatting with him (with 110% buff items) and then tell him the buff is done. What happens? He runs off without a thanks and bank tips me 5 credits. I /tell him he was a rude SOB and he has no clue why....

And people wonder why live entertainers don't exist anymore?

You should probably be glad you got any money at all.

Hey, I even have guildmates come in for a buff who don't tip at all . . . any time . . . ever . . .

Oh he knew it was 5 credits because I called him on it... had the nerve to say he was "new" in his full composite suit of armor and then whined and wanted me to buff his friend too. No way in hades.

Yep, I've gotten those people. Which is why my Notepad has a fairly sizable section that lists the people that have tried to stiff me.

If someone asks me for a buff, I check my list. If they're on it, then I say "No, you didn't think my time was worth anything to you, and since it is to me I'd rather not waste it".

If they beg (sometimes they do, I love that ) then I ask for a tip upfront. I'm not bitter about it, they're all potential customers, and maybe they can become regulars of mine again. Takes a while though.

I usually don't mind buffing guildies and friendsfor free, because we usually trade items and services. When I buff customers, I ask them to pay what they think it's worth, and normally I get more credits than I would have charged. Idid havean experience the other night that just made me sad. I ran into a fellow imperial that was organizing a raid. He said to me, "I hope LOD (my guild) will be represented in this raid." Since I'm a leader, I changed my plans and grabbed some guildmates. I was grouped in a FULL group, and buffed everyone. I also was doing /setperform on the members outside my group. When we all died, I healed a group of about 10 with severe mind wounds. After all this, I do not think I got 1 tip. I did get thank you's, but no tips. Not that I was trying to make money, it's just nice to be recognized. After all, I know many docs that make money off of raids. I can't imaginedevoting all mysp toentertainer, because it seemsthere's very little love out there for us.

hehe...yeah let's face it, everyone does it...sometimes I make a lot more money from rebels, because they know it will take more to convince me to dance for them. I hate going to a raid and seeing 5-10 rebs that I mind buffed earlier.../bonkself

hmm, I think the healthiest way to deal with this is to expect nothing... ever!

I danced like 40-45 hours yesterday, all non afk, and only at the very end got one tip, but it was a nice one

Today I danced since 3 a.m local time till server shutdown and got about 40k in tips, half of it from one guy!

I never ask for money, I'm here to have a good time dancing, if I want money I get buffed, don my armour and go whoop some critter backside with my TK skillz.. that way I avoid being desillusionized with the money and get to meet a lot of cewl ppl..

heck, I got a pair of stormtroopers /dancing yesterday hehe, I'm still having a ball!

now if only the Zombies would get cast in Sarlacc Pit, I'd be perfectly happy /grin

This is why I've stopped doing passive mind buffing... it's the only way for ME to control the situation. /setperform is your friend. And I don't do it until they've coughed up 3k. It's not the money I'm concerned about... my dancer is also my tailor, so I make good money as a crafter. But people in this game MUST realize that if they want services, they must pay for them. No 3k, no buff. Period. End of story.

I'm not worried about the credits, by any means. I'm more worried about the other entertainers than myself. But I've noticed this trend & hoped it was just my own experience. Now granted..I've got a few friends that I just refuse to accept tips from..and a couple that I wrestle with..tipping each other back & forth..our own private joke.

However, over the past week, I've seen a sharp decline in tips from people I don't know. Not only in amount but in number of people who actually tip when I buff them. What I'd recommend for the dancers who normally accept "voluntary" tips, ie; telling the patron "tip whatever you feel is appropriate", that you set a price for your servicesand stick with it.

Whether this is due to the sudden influx of "trial" players or free buffbots conditioning players to expect free buffs, we can only speculate.
