Issues and Needs

Our Dancer Issues

for the Devs

This is the long version of our current list for the devs. This is the new form of our old list issues that the Devs have now. If it

made it on this list, it means it was mentioned enough to be there. It is not set in stone and it may or may not ever be seriously

entertained as a possible implementation. Please do leave your comments... they will be needed should one of these issues catch the

attention of the Devs and need a review.

Performance

Enhancements: List

Our very large list of fun things we want/need. This is the first compiled draft and the thread has many new additions. This list is

being recompiled right now and a new list will be posted asap. When the second draft goes up (soon I hope), we will start voting on

these things and getting them ready for a real Dev beg session... erm *coughs*... I mean proposal.

Male Dancers'

Issues: No girls allowed!

Post your Male dancer specific issues and needs here. Boys need love too!

Combat Balance

Issues for Dancer: Ent Healing, Bards, and our Future in the Game

Really really really rough draft early ideas on possible CB tie ins for Dancers... keep an open mind, nothing terribly solid here,

just open discussion.

Okay. Here's my idea for us. Apparently the doctors got THEIR buffs fixed by making a big enough noise. While doctors' buffs for the other six non-mind stats can be applied almost instantly and reliably, our own buffs are unpredictable, unable to be monitored, and take 6 to 8 minites to apply. The unreliability of the service we can provide is undermining the mindset that we should be compensated for the chunks of time we devote to it, or that dancers contribute anything more than lag time while any number of hologrinders in a cantina spam things like: "WATCH ME I NEED THE EXPERIENCE! PLEASE HEAL ME IF I STOP! PLEASE INVITE ME TO A GROUP IF I AM NOT IN ONE! PLEASE REMEMBER TO TIP!"

One might imagine that the potential damage to our profession will only get worse. When hologrinders are eliminated or drastically reduced in the Jedi Update, Dancers may become harder to find. Especially since the lack of attention for our flourishes and the broken buffs may drive lots of Dancers out of the profession. It has already been remarked that live dancers are kind of hard to find amidst the 'dancing dead' The potential new scarcity of dancers could drive the price of mind buffs up, as demand will outstrip supply. If by this point, mind buffs are not fixed, quick, and reliable, it is entirely likely that the profession could tailspin into a cycle of no confidence in dancer mind buffs, more dancers leaving the profession in disgust to support themselves in other ways, to higher pricesdue to that scarcity, to an unwillingness to pay for a buff that isn't reliable and so on and so on.

My own solution is that we encourage the disaffected professions that rely on mind buffs to express to the developers that Dancer Mind Buffs need to be addressed. Dancer buffs need to be fixed and put on a par with the buffs that Doctors have people standing in line for in places like Dantooine, Dathomir and soon, Endor when the Death Watch dungeon goes live.

The promise of new speeders, weapons and the much lusted after Mandalorian armours that can only be crafted at the dungeon itself will have more than just Melee classes looking for mind buffs. The artisans will have to go where the specialized drops and crafting stations are. And will need our services. Given the impracticality of getting a mind buff at a cantina that may not even last all the way out to wherever this dungeon will be, it may even be practical that we be given the ability to apply buffs in camps as well. The window of opportunity here needs to be siezed and stressed to the developers, and it needs to be done yesterday.

My proposal is that when giving buffs, we have a couple of /say macros like the ones I'm about to start using in the game before I make an attempt to buff folks. Here are the ones I mean to use:

1. TheWarningSpiel

/say Due to the dodgy nature of dancer buffs, unlike the doctors sure thing, I can't surely guarantee a 3 hour buff. You're paying for the time taken to try the buff, not the buff itself. Sorry, but Dancers are broken right now. Is this still okay?

2. Instructions

/say When watching, please type /watch instead of using the radial menu. We think using the menu is a cause of mind buffs failing to take. This will take 6-8 min. to do. Please let the devs know this should be fixed so we can help you reliably. ^_^

As I was typing this up in notepad, I was asked to buff someone for 5k in the Dantooine Mining Settlement Cantina. I made sure that I'd setperformed on him, I asked him to type /watch instead of using the menu. He was healing my action the entire time. I hit him for at least 12 minutes with non-stop Exotic4 flourish 1's, 2's and 3's. I did not fall once. (Amazing) And afterward? When he stopwatched on me and I looked away from him and looked back to see what happened? It did absolutely JACK for him. The sad bit was that he actually offered to try again after I refunded him his 5k cos I felt bad, inspite of the belief that I should be paid for my time and not the effect. I apologized and let him know I was so disgusted that I felt I needed to go out and shoot some of the galaxy's creatures to vent a bit.

Way to illustrate my point, eh?

Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.

I know this is hardly a big issue but could we get our dance list box to resize properly. Right now it just keeps it half the list and half the "please select blah blah blah" text. To be able to see my full list I have to keep the thing the full height of the screen and half that is practically empty.

BTW it's probably just the same for musicians too. [/nitpick]

Would it be too wierd to get some of the related combat skill? What about elite level skills such as balance, defense versus knockdown, and defense versus dizzy? Is there any real reason why we don't have these?

We all have balance. We all spend all day spinning and leaping. I'm just wondering why we have equal defenses to people who have yet to spend a skill point. Does that make any real sense?

About the dancer buff not 'taking'

I seem to remember this always being an issue. Can someone update me on this? I was under the impression that the "I'm buffed... I die. I can't get buffed again unless I die again" problem was still around.

As you know, Panthu, I have the problem with /bandflourish turning off of its own accord. I /bug it every time it happens. You mentioned in a previous post that you were having trouble documenting this. As this happens pretty regularly with me, is there anything I can do to provide further documentation of this bug?

Big reply time...

1. Buffs - Working on it

2. Defenses - Maybe

3. Resize window - No Not anytime soon... try setting up a macro for each Dance that says /startd NameOfDance; /changed NameOfDance; That's what I use. You can alias it too if you prefer them.

4. Clear on Death - That should be working... it is afaik, if people are telling you it isn't, /bug it and tell me

5. Bandflo Bug - It's on the bug list. It has been turned over to QA. I was supposed to test with our friendly QA contact Friday, but then TC2 came up and all went nutty. I hope I can catch himTuesday AM.

Current Bugs sent to QA:

  • Music/Dance Same time Buff Bug

  • Bandflos not firing or turning off and getting stuck

  • Self heal not working (self watch)

  • Changing target while active buffing

I think Tiaga or NewJedi are working on the Recorder Droid problem.

Entertainer spy missions:

As masters of the social scene, we can add a level to the game and a level to game concept that few others can. This idea affects dancers, entertainers, image designers, and musicians. First, I've already seen a spy mission, so I know we can do them. Back in December, I was outside of Anchorhead and stopped while on guild business to see why an Imperial officer had a "i" disk above his head. He offered to give me a mission to spy on a rebel operative while dancing. I couldn't do it due to guild obligations and when I went back the next day the mission was gone. I've never found another offer like it.

I'd like to get entertainer missions like these from entertainer terminals, faction terminals, and/or all three faction theme park areas (Rebel, Neutral and Imperial). It would be neat to get faction and money by doing what we do best and have an actual plot line involvement in the GCW, even if we're neutral. This could be completely npc driven and it wouldn't have to be violent in any way. Several of our people went triple threat, master entertainer and two other master elite entertainer professions. Theyshould get the chance to participate too. This could be dangerous as well. For example, if we fail a performance objective, question, or get caught live looting him (picking a pocket or stealing something without killing the target npc), we could be put in a combat position that might very well cost us our lives. The enemies could be uber dangerous, like nova troopers if the entertainer was neutral or a rebel, or one of the Corellian Corvette style Rebel generals, types that even combat types would not want to solo; after all, as social beings our job would be to finesse the objective, not fight it. Combat could even be an automatic fail for some missions. These types of ideas could actually make us a valuable part of the GCW.

On that note, I even have an idea on how to help out our image designer friends with doing this GCW style even further. What about giving IDs the ability to temporarily buff people to appear to be other Overt faction members temporarily (or completely neutral), say for two hours. It would be invaluable for making people better able to spy on others. Neutral makes you unattackable but also unable to affect anything in the GCW. Overt other, would make you able to do the things that someone from the other faction would be able to do, as long as you weren't spotted or figured out by bases, recruiters or specific npcs (the identification chance being a factor of the npc or bases power level / against the level of mastery of the ID that buffed you). During this time, you could take advantage of the other sides facilities and benefits, but at the cost of an equal level of faction from your side and any action you take against your side while so buffed counts against your permanent faction score (for example, it's not a good idea for an undercover cop to shoot his fellow police). Neutral players could use Jabba faction to spend for this effect and take advantage of both sides of the conflict. Last danger to this buff, you are red to your allies, and your real allies are red to you, if you are a Rebel or Imperial, if you are normally neutral, welcome to the GCW.

Second Image designer upgrade idea for spying, let image desingers give people an anonymous tag for up to two hours at a time. The overt faction buff idea is kind of worthless if everyone knows you're Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. Let image designers give people a tag and a numeric number that simply means you can't read there name, say, mrsmith234535. Thenumeric portion would insure no one used the name hiding to violate SOE rules of conduct while anonymous, SOE (on their side of the game) should actually flag people in this state since it might encourage some bad behavior as it first starts. The name buff would have no effect on tells or any other portion of the game, but you wouldn't be able to tell who the person was if disguised, from the name tag. For obvious game balance reasons, this couldn't affect bounty hunter missions in any way, they have investigation and spynet after all, but for the common person it could allow them to slip into being anonymous for a while. Also, it could be good for Jedi who wanted to go into town without attracting attention from those who do not have specific missions against them already. If this type of name buff is combined with the proposed faction hide buff and they are detected, the player spy / fugitive loses both buffs automatically.

Image desingers should be able to give themselves all of these buffs, making them the spymasters of pvp, since they can alter their stats and imagesat will as well. Dancers, Entertainers, and Musicians would have a lesser, but still important role in the pvp spy field, since we're still the other social master fields. Also all entertainers could buy the new Image designer buff powers to do their own spy missions or play gigs in normally hostile towns.

Occassionally, my avatar does not respond to /bandflo. Examples: I'm in a group and someone calls a bandflo, my avatar doesn't flourish. Or, I call a bandflo and everyone responds but me. Sometimes the problem only occurs for a couple of hours, sometimes for days.A couple of timesmy avatar responded to bandflo for a few (or several) flourishes during one "dance session" then stopped.

When I notice that it's not working or it suddenly stops I try to turn it back on. I get the system message that I'll now accept band flourishes, however, it usuallydoesn't resolve the problem (has a couple of times). I've tried repeatedly turning them off and on, relogging and taking shuttle trips (I remembered how that used to work when light effects would get stuck). I've tried screaming and threatening my cat! None of these helped.

I'm positive that I am doing it right. This is my second time at master, the first being from late July until late September (started as an entertainer at launch), back when we all used the tools.

I'll be happy to demonstrate this to anyone who would like to log an entertainer or dancer on to Chilastra.

What about making mind related damage a function of a character's battle fatigue? If you have low battle fatigue you feel mentally well and suffer less from mind attacks. As battle fatigue increases you become exhausted and your resistance to mind attacks weakens, making mind hits do more damage?

The numbers etc can of course be discussed but with this mechanic entertainers would have a greater impact on combat without having to change their play style.
