Apparently I am a thief.

Last night while dancing in a cantina that had an AFK buff bot, I was approached by several patrons asking for a mind buff. Either they prefered to use an ATK dancer or couldn't afford the 6K fee charged by the bot. After a couple of hours the buff bot operator apparently checked in and discovered she was not getting the income to which she had become accustomed. She was not pleased and began sending me angry tells informing me that this was her territory and I needed to go some place else. She even arranged for several people to come challenge me to a duel of all things. I suggested that if she was going to use someone else to fight the duel then I should get to as well.... otherwise she should start holding that sword like she knew how to use it and brace for impact. It's amazing to me how quickly seemingly rationale people can fall off the steep slope. All this time I thought the argument for bots was that combat players needed them to heal and buff at a moment's notice. But for at least one person out there, that's apparently not the case and I have stolen credits from her automated little hands.

How exactly does a bot enforce a 6k fee?

That says... something... about the player's mentality...

The nerve! You should immediately /tip her back everything you stole from her with a 10% surcharge for her pain and suffering!

Wait. Getting serious now. You mean to tell me that you, an ATK entertainer, went to a Cantina and found customers who chose your service over that of a Buff-Bot?

The HELL you say?

Bravo! /lick

ENTERTAINERS, ARE YOU LISTENING TO THIS!?!?!?!?!

Oh my, you poor thing!

That sounds awful

I wish something could be done about this situation. It should have been corrected like 4 months ago.

I'm not sure the Devs realize that everyday they let this junk perpetuate, more negative experiences like this happen.

I've never fully understood the hostility of these "combat" players. Who runs to the aid of a buffbot in a public cantina, en masse, and challenges an at the keyboard dancer to a duel? What kind of person would do that and think they're doing something productive? I hope you wrote all of their names down and made your own handy /denyservice macro and added their names to it. Run it everyday you log in. Also, it's amazing how many of these people can't fight their own fights. They can't leave it at an argument between you and them, they need to recruit some thugs to come in and pester you.

If you get hate /tells or feel harassed like that again (sounds like it was bad), first and foremost take screenshots with your PRTSCRN button on your keyboard. Then use CTRL+H and open a customer service ticket (not /report - i don't think that works right). Hopefully the CSR will do something about it, because that's just not right.

Don't worry, the sun will come up tomorrow and hopefully the new day will bring finer folks to interact with in-game.

/report on it's own doesn't do anything. You need to /report AND submit a ticket so they know to look at the reports.

There is a convenient button in the holocron "Report Harassment" that does both for you in one go. It even bypasses the knowledgebase search usually required to open a ticket.

I got one for pointing out that ANOTHER ENTERTAINER says you can compete with buff-bots if you choose to.

/boggle

Did you hear the scary twilight zone music while she said this to you? I hate that.

If anyone said something like that to me I would probably do a victory lap around my living room and scream Booyah! until the neighbors called the cops.

I think it is cool that people were going to you instead of the bot. Maybe this recursive macro thing has brought some good along with the flames. People curious about the uproar have read about the buffbot issues for the first time and realize it isn't kosher to use one. And maybe some of them actually place the blame for the death of the recursive macro on the buff bot where it belongs.

Side note: Actually a lot of bots do enforce the tipping thing by reading back in their spatial/tabs or whatever and seeing who joined the group and who tipped and who didn't (I am assuming - not exactly sure how they check). Then they /denyservice those who don't tip or don't tip enough. They probably have a macro for that too lol. I once saw a dancer/musician who required a 14k tip for full buffs. If you found yourself denied then you could send an email (and 14k) and you would be taken off the list. /shakeshead in disbelief

Not necessarily Sigrun. It appears that everyone, on both sides of this issue got a one star. Sometimes there are just people who enjoy going onto threads and giving people one stars. By posting in this thread, I expect to get one as well.

Someone did that in the musician forum today to a humor thread about jedi.

I hope so. But we all know this wouldn't have happened a month ago and the patrons would have just gone to the bot. Hence the decrease in tips now versus last week or whenever, because I'm pretty sure that was not Ikewe's first visit to that cantina.

I highly suspect that it's because the devs' continued insistance that AFK "play" is wrong is now something we have all heard about in one way or another. The macro changes have brought it to the attention of the playerbase at large and players are starting to (correctly) see that it's AFK peoples' abuse that is causing this macroing change (and what some percieve as a dev policy change but I see as a stronger support of a policy that's been in place).

The tide is changing already.

It's just a few people now, but...It was just a few people at first who AFKed and got ahead by cheating, and look where that ended? So now it's time to rebuild the respect a few people at a time.

I've been thanked for being ATK more times this week than in the past 3 months combined. I had someone tell me last night that the phrase "I am not an NPC so please don't treat me like one" in my bio really made him think about the bot situation for the first time (and the words "buff" and "bot" and combinations of them are deliberately missing from my bio).

Perhaps I'll spend some time out in public tonight myself.

Prediction right on schedule:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=dancer&message.id=25754

We are in a competitive business. Always have been and always will be. However, if a dancer is just not getting tipped as often as they'd like, they normally have two choices:

1) Leave and go to a cantina that may tip them better.

2) Work harder to get tips.

Now buffbots, as you recall, do not play by the same rules as other players. And trust me when I tell you that they play the game as a killer. For it was never the reasons of profit that buffbots exist. Its for reasons of manipulating the environment to the benefit of a buffbot owner. You see, they can't do #1 or #2, so they have to work with what they can: the sarlacc bile of abject nastiness. Remember, if buffbot owners are inconsiderate enough to put an alt 24/7 to manipulate the environment to their own will, they will stoop to almost any length to maintain the manipulation.

This nastiness will soon be felt by the players at large who depend on buffbots. Trust me, it will. And if you think combat players love buffbots now, wait until buffbot ownersstart denying players. Because its one thing to complain about live players not being at the cantina for service. Its quite another thing when unattended mules are at the cantina yet unavailable for service.

And to all you buffbot ownersout there, I don't deny what you do is valuable, but its not tip worthy. Take it from someone who knows the business a lot better than you. How much has "Tip me! Heal me!" really worked for those who came before you? The more you try and strongarm a tipfrom an unwilling player, the more incentive someone like me has to expose how really idle your threats really are. Because I am armed with carbosyrup, you cannot hurt me while I'm at the keys, and your sarlacc bile will only make my job a whole lot easier.

Actually I found it not the least bit intimidating. I've developed quite a list of combat players who appreciate that I am indeed willing to stop what I am doing and travel to them for a mind buff. I think that's why the *thugs* quickly decided they'd rather not take their chances going against whichever combat player I happened to recruit. Someone whois a master dancer and musician can't hope to stand against me in a straight duel but I had a blast continuing to periodically send the Duel challenge to the bot <WEG>

That wasn't the case here. That post was the only one with ANY stars at the time.

Mind you, I'm not taken aback by it. I expect that when I provide rational, logical, fact-basedarguments that the Entertainer community might not appreciate. I clearly understand that the Entertainer community is comprised largely of emotion-based thinkers and they will attackmy logic with the emotion of a single star any time they see it. (Yes, some of you are capable of rational thought, too. Probably the majority.)
