Thread: Stealing clients

I hope so. But we all know this wouldn't have happened a month ago and the patrons would have just gone to the bot. Hence the decrease in tips now versus last week or whenever, because I'm pretty sure that was not Ikewe's first visit to that cantina.

Wait. Getting serious now. You mean to tell me that you, an ATK entertainer, went to a Cantina and found customers who chose your service over that of a Buff-Bot?
The HELL you say?
Bravo! /lick
ENTERTAINERS, ARE YOU LISTENING TO THIS!?!?!?!?!

So maybe it *is* because of this new announcement, but at least in part because of the effect that Entertainers are coming back to the keyboards and doing their stuff.
In response to the "new announcement", a lot of players are coming back after months away from entertainer professions or have always wanted to try them and now see it as having potential. The jump in participation by atk players in dance and music has been so astounding on my home server that I've stopped being concerned about whether or not we'll be able to meet the demand. Someone joked in our chat channel yesterday that we're the new FOTM!
You know..I've never bought into the excuses the bots gave; that they were doing it as a favor to their fellow players, for the welfare of the community. I'm sure they're doing it to receive credits through no effort on the part of the account holder. And I think it is likely we'll see a lot more of this sort of post.

Not necessarily Sigrun. It appears that everyone, on both sides of this issue got a one star. Sometimes there are just people who enjoy going onto threads and giving people one stars. By posting in this thread, I expect to get one as well. That wasn't the case here. That post was the only one with ANY stars at the time.Mind you, I'm not taken aback by it. I expect that when I provide rational, logical, fact-basedarguments that the Entertainer community might not appreciate. I clearly understand that the Entertainer community is comprised largely of emotion-based thinkers and they will attackmy logic with the emotion of a single star any time they see it. (Yes, some of you are capable of rational thought, too. Probably the majority.)I wear those singles as a badge of honor confirming the logic behind my thoughts.I am Sigrun. I am Vulcan. Ph34r my logic.
I think there is a bitter person leaving out there who wants to go out in a flame of one-star glory. Even on the Ranger forum there were several posts that were totally one-starred. The choice was completely random as far as I can see. Many of the galaxy forums were hit as well.
The mods do keep track of your one-star history and will ban/reduce your board status if you one-star too many posts in a short period of time (trolls). This is why I think it is someone who had decided to leave the game. They often want to cause as much grief going out as possible.

Careful there.
You're getting dangerously close to supporting my theory that entertainers really could put the bots out of business if they'd just stop allowing themselves to be offended by the text, "(AFK)". I mean, the macro nerf hasn't taken place yet and won't for at least a month and ALREADY you're seeing improvement? Must not be the macros then.
Anyway, I'd be hard-pressed to believe the bot-runners do it for money. There just can't be that much money in it. I've got to believe they're doing it to ensure they and their friends have easy / consistent / reliableaccess to buffs, primarily.

The people I see coming back are the ones who dropped dancer out of frustration from the unattended play and see some hope for the future. They want to bemasters, established in the profession, when the change comes down. I am one of these returned masters, having dropped the profession last fall and taking it up again a few months ago when I was assured that there were changes being discussed at high enough levels where I felt confident that a solution would be implemented.
We are all still very frustrated with the macroers but we are looking forward to the future. We've been quietly waiting, biding our time, until we can return to what we love without having to deal with spam and the imbalances caused byunattended play.
The few established playersthat I knowwho are doing entertainer for the first time are taking a break from the GCW. The ones I have in mindare all regular customers of live entertainers who are trying a different playstyle while frustrated with pvp. A couple of them are enjoying dancing with their girlfriends. One is a regular pvp'er on our server who is doing musician while he recovers from a very debilitating surgery. Another quit the game but stayed in touch with his friends and has now come back because of the new creative outlet presented by music videos. I don't expect that they will want to continue with entertainer after the GCW and combat revamps but I'm very happy to have them around and enjoy showing them how to put on a good show.
The buffbot owners with whom my partner and I have spoken begin their conversations with us by stating that they're doing it for the most honorable of reasons and they insist that we should respect them, even thank them, for being such a benefit to the community. However, eventually in our conversations, they begin bragging about how much credits they make daily. When asked if they could move their bot to a location equally as convenient to their friends, such as a hotel or theater in the same town (or even the back room of the cantina), they tell us they won't be moving because of the credits they're making standing just inside the doorway of the cantina where they are. One bot requested to be included in our list of masters who are willing to buff that is maintained on our server forum, stating that she had as much a right to the advertising as we did. We offered to consider it if she would include a message promoting the list and live entertainers in her spam. She declined, stating that such a message would hurt her profits.

It's been that way on both sides of the fence. Last week someone went through my partner's history and began one-starring every post he had made..starting at launch. S/he even managed to lower his forum rank, entirely meaningless to us..but amusing that it could be lowered in such a way. Some people really have too much free time.
I went to look at my post history and sure enough, every post that had no stars by it before had one star now.

I read in one thread that one-star stalkers are actually a status symbol. Kwee, FushiaD and Mawie on the ID forum all have one and man, one-starring all of their posts must have been a major undertaking lol. Did Panthu say she also had one?
EDIT: 5 stars for everyone!

I used to think the same thing but given this encounter I have to assume that if there's one then there are more who are in it simply for the credits. It's not like she's set up in a player city cantina or a guild hall. She's in an Outpost cantina servicing anyone and everyone who comes in. If it were all about the help and support it would be free - not 6K. If the deny service log others have mentioned is in use by even a small percentage of robot buffers, then pretty soon players won't risk not paying the robot. Personally I'm glad she's charging 6K. I made a bundle that night just letting people tip rather than charging a set fee.
