Thread: policy change and spam in the cantina
Area Disruption is defined as any activity, intentional or unintentional, which harms or inconveniences a larger number of players. Causing a disruption may result in disciplinary action being taken against the account that may include official warnings, account suspensions, or account terminations depending on the severity of the incident which will be determined by a CSR and a CSR Supervisor. Multiple suspensions or account termination will result in the termination of all SOE game accounts.
Disruption includes, but is not limited to, such things such as:
- Deliberately blocking a doorway or narrow area so other players cannot get past.
Making excessive and inappropriate use of spatial communications, i.e. spamming.
- Placing any object (such as pets, droids, structures, city facilities) which prevent access to game content (anything in the game, including city structures, houses, caves, mission terminals, etc.) or trap other customers.
- Using graphics intensive weaponry to duel in high traffic areas*
- Organizing, holding, or participating in protests held in high traffic areas (such as busy Starports or other areas where many players normally gather).
99.9% of buffbots and afkers spam the same thing over and over...this is harrasment under the new policy, simply submit a ticket with their name, if enought people are submitting tickets, then the buffbots will be A. shut off, or B. action taken against their account.
This is a simple and effective way to reduce the sheer amount of spam in the cantinas, and make conversation actually possible

I would think the reaction won't be that phrase, since Squad Leaders have been banned for "spamming" while fighting in highly populated areas. They've been teleported to 0,0 and frozen, and all sorts of stuff. Hence, spamming might get such a response, but rather disciplinary action taken against the spammer.
I do believe the rule of thumb is no spam at faster than a 30 second interval. If any spam repeats within 30 seconds, report it if you want to.

I don't think that buffbots violate the provision in terms of spamming spatial communication. One could argue that it's necessary communication. But this alone does not mean that buffbots do not disrupt the area. Look at the definition:
Area Disruption is defined as any activity, intentional or unintentional, which harms or inconveniences a larger number of players.
Are cantina entertainers not a large number of players? Its three whole profession's worth. Can it be shown that buffbots disrupt the dynamics of the cantina? Does unattended activity not harm and inconvenience us? If it can be proven that it does, then buffbots are guilty of area disruption simply for being buffbots.

This assumes that the CSRs are consistent in applying their rules across different professions. So, who are you and what have you done with the cynical, suspicious, worldly-wise Warryyr we know and love?

This random sig quote is brought to you by Jim McCarthy:
"According to the specifications in the manual, fully loaded and charged, tanks and all, it should have weighed no more than 11.1 kilos--but somewhere along the way we lost the decimal point and Duke wouldn't let me go back and look for it."

I suspect we won't see any robots banned for spamming or any other reason. If you can swing it, please take a screenshot... something like this one I came across on my home server of Shadowfire. the-Novva- robot is our resident buff vendor in the Dantooine Mining Outpost:

At one time, you couldn't walk through furniture in a house. It was possible to trap someone. In response, the command /eject was added and furniture became immaterial.
If you are in a house, /eject places you outside. If you are on a Guild Hall roof, and you are banned from that hall. You cannot pass through the hall to get out. However, /eject will remove you from the roof and place you outside of the hall.
Mayors can still place city structures such as lampposts to prevent entry into a house. So that's why it's still there.
I would like to see furniture become solid again since the /eject command is redundant or at least option to turn it on and off. It adds a little to 'realism' when RPing. However, there are bigger thing I want to see taken care of so if it happens, it happens.

Well, a friend reported a buffbot for spamming. The canned response, in short, was:
We're sorry....
We will investigate....
Please consider /addignore...
We want to make the game better...
He'll let me know if anything comes of it.
