Hey guys!
I don't know if any of you remember Ra'ano (AG-941 here on the forums). He's a friend of mine and is currently in Florida on deployment (in the Air Force) and can't play SWG until May. As such, he can't post to the forums. He reads them all the time, keeping up with the news, and wanted me to post something for him in response to the new GCW Part 3 details.
From Ra'ano:
A recent announcement of the GCW revamp stated that cantinas will be subject to more scans. How do you think this will affect the entertainer community? and can some of the other changes announced be used to bring entertainers into the GCW?
For example, cities (and therefore cantinas) will be factioned based on the GCW or they will be permanantly one faction. Perhaps we can tie this into the /register command (and encourage its use)
Perhaps entertainers can be exempted from scans if they have /registered? (for RP purposes, this is getting permission from the manager before you perform)
the flip side is that if you are say, a Rebel dancing in Theed cantina (Theed is a permanant Imperial city according the dev's announcement) you will be immediately kicked out of the cantina.. or made attackable. (the theater manager ran a background check on you and discovered some questionable things and reported you to the authorities)
but if that same rebel dancer doesn't register, they run the risk of getting scanned...

Just some ideas I thought of... any thoughts?

I think any ideas to include us in the GCW changes are good ones, I'd be happy to see any of these implemented.
As it stands, the only "benefit" to our playstyle right now is being subjected to more scans....as well as our cantina patrons. That's kind of a shame.
I guess my greatest fear involving the stuff announced today is that people will abandon NPC cities by and large, in favor of scan-free and hassle-free player cities with buffbots and AFK'ers

Well, a benefit to this is lack of buffbots in public places, perhaps. The downside is that my main character is Rebel, but the Cantina I always dance in is Theed. Unfortunately, as on most servers, Coronet is disgusting, and would hate having to go there. But, maybe things will change and the dynamic of people who go in and out of certain cities will change for the better. I'm ready to have a wait and see attitude here because I really like where they're going with the GCW. Maybe Moenia will get hopping again. I can always hope.

It'll be interesting to see how they reactwhen a DE-10 gets pointed in their faces, LOL. Maybe they will think twice before messing with the banjo toting gunfighter, haha!

Well I'm nuetral so GCW is meaningless. However I don't really care to have to deal with being scanned and found carrying pixie or accarragm with me. I just don't want the constant interuption in the cantina, the kombat kiddies dueling in the cantina is bad enough.
I'm TK also so if these NPC are attackable I can hold my own, I just really don't like the idea.

I find it interesting to see that people consider these scans a "nuisance". Also, the statement "Well I'm nuetral so GCW is meaningless" tells me something is wrong with the game if this is a prevalent attitude.
There's a civil war going on. Just because one has not chosen a side and wishes to live as a simple citizen does not mean they should not be affected by the war or be able to totally ignore it. What you call an annoyance, I call interesting. I love seeing stormtroopers shaking people down in a public cantina. It makes for some interesting roleplay and fun times to see how people react to them.
As for having contraband, accarragm is not illegal. Spices are. Sliced items are. Don't carry contraband if you're worried about it.
Everyone has the right to enjoy the game as they see fit, but you can't ask the devs to change the game world or the global situation within it. Like it or not, this game world is designed to be in a galaxy that is embroiled in a civil war. That can and should have an impact upon everyone who plays the game, neutral or otherwise.
Entertainers should absolutely be subject to scans, just like they are in a real shakedown. I'm against shielding them with the /register command. I also think the automatic kick from the cantina when you are the opposite faction is not necessary. Unless you are on leave, you'll be attacked by the NPCs in town long before you get to the cantina, and if you're on leave, the shakedowns are already designed to expose you, but it's a risk you are welcome to take if you want to roleplay a spy.

I roleplay a non-combat entertainer and rebel sympathizer. I have been harassed, killed, kidnapped, arrested andrescued. The validity of my "entertainer license" is frequently questioned and I get all kinds of accusations from the (player) stormtrooper patrols around Theed. I'm looking forward to the game becoming more complex and challenging!
(btw..the harassment referred to here is all in good fun..and it is incredible fun!)

I'm hoping that accarragm isn't considered contraband. It's only Wookiee beer. Beer isn't illegal in SW... unless the Empire frowns upon it coming from Wookiees.

Do I really want to know what part of the Wookiee it comes from?

Well, the last few times that I have played my dancer/musician on Intrepid, Corsecs have come into the Coronet Cantina and incapped (and even, on a couple occasions... killed) some of the zombies.
Perhaps this is a precursor to the upcoming GCW revamp?

Honestly I'd prefer that cantinas were left as nuetral ground. I think the role of the cantina is a place where people from both factions can put aside tensions and hostility. A place where they can have a drink, hire a smuggler, bounty hunter or crafter. A place where they can relax listen to a musician or watch a dancer. I really REALLY don't like the idea of bringing troops in or overting dancers or harassing people that just want down time. I'd even prefer that the cantina's caused everyone inside to be temporarily covert.
That's just me though... I personally like dancing in the cantina when it isn't a battlefield.
