Thread: Is it too late to get rid of our bad rap?
I think nerfing AFK macroing now is too late for us, the entertainer profession as a whole has a really bad reputation because of all the AFKers. I was sitting at the starport on Corellia and I overheard a group of people there discussing their holocrons. One said they hoped the holocron would say "Master Dancer or Master Musician" because it takes 'only days to master while AFK' and they even laughed about it. This made me really depressed because I heard this talk before
The only real way to really fix the reputation is wiping everyone's entertainer skills and starting over when there is a solution to AFKers but I really don't see that happening.
Sultrina, where do you dance?
I tripped upon the Tyrena Cantina in Corellia, and have found a home with a wonderful, entertainment based (but not entertainment exclusive) guild. We do a tremendous about of RPing, and interact with patrons all the time. I've rarely heard ill words spoken about us, and when they are spoken, usually there are half a dozen other patrons that will leap to duel the poison spreader.
Our profession is a revolving door. There is a constant influx of lazy AFKers who work their way up and then quit shortly after becoming master. The holocrons have made this worse. All they have to do is remove the ability to AFK entertain and the problem will very shortly disappear and I believe our reputation will begin to immediately improve.
Of course, that's assuming they ever do anything about the problem. I'm not convinved they ever will.

So far as I've experienced, both on Sigrun my dancer and on my combatant toon, the only "bad" in entertainer reputation is their whininess about AFK macros.
Nobody I've spoken with on either character has said anything disparaging about the entertainment professions.
Many I've spoken with have indicated appreciation for entertainers in general and certain entertainers and actions in particular.
Bad rep? In your mind and in your attitude only.
But don't assume that just because everything is **edit**-dorey for your little dancer on Naritus, that it necessarily is on every other server out there, because it just might not be.

When did "h..u..n..k..e..y-dorey" become a cuss-word??
Yeesh. Stupid forum...

Oh Sigrun for godsakes shut up. I agree complaining in front of cutomers about anythign is tacky but stop beign a little troll on the Dancer boards.
When you and the rest of the anti-AFK crows stops, I'll stop putting my $.02. There are far more anti-AFK posts than my little educational snippets. Why are you not complaining about their volume? Oh, because you happen to agree with them.
Censorship AND dictatorship? Out of a crowd that's supposed to be artsy and probably by association, liberal? Sheez. ![]()
And thanks again. I wear those single stars from you people with honor. ![]()
Sigrun,
IF this was a dicatorship I would of had you shot by now you can be shure of that ![]()
As far as me and the rest of the ani-afk crows I for one do NOT complain in game and in front of customers. THIS however is the dancer forum and we can discuss what we like. You are however treading a fine line between contstructive input and being a dirty little troll.
i had a whole giant post written out and it got nerfed.
i think the opinions on our profession will change. -in time-
see right now we are not empowered... the buff was a step in the right direction, but stand in the trade outpost cantina on dathomir and advertise your master mind buff next to a master musician doing the same.
now bring in a master doctor selling his buffs for 3k. he will recieve 10x the business you do. PVE is popular yet the mind is rarely targetted by mobs. add the fact that people don't understand our class now, battle fatigue and mind woundsbeingrelatively uncommon unless you forgot to clone, the wait for healing yourself not being that painful with novice skills and what do you have left?
in time you will see the combat medics, riflemen, swordsmen and doctors place our class more in demand.
but we have to keep in mind, the developers want people to be in the cantinas.it is far easier to allow high turnover than to suddenly pull the rug out from under people trying to avoid what sometimes can be a horrible grind in an empty cantina, and then when 80% of players abandon the profession say "oh **edit**... we need to offer incentives so people want to join the class".
what incentives would they offer? putting macroing back in?
empower our class with /denyfaction, better buffs, make the passive buff targetable only, etc. etc. and eventually you will see a shift in people's opinions.
however bitching on the boards incessantly about afk macroing will give the atk entertainers a bad rap, because alot of players apprieciate free healing at 3am.

trying to find a clear spot to flourish and dance is a CHORE.
Yup.
And if all those people were AT KEYBOARD you could all talk about it and the floor can easily accomodate many of you.
"Everybody switch to popular, basic, or footloose... there isn't enough room for Lyrical tonight!"
If people are AT KEYBOARD then this would work. If they are AFK, there there is nothing you can do.
Excuse the rest of us, Sigrun, for wanting our dances to look good. Gee, given that is what we are there to do -- look good dancing -- I guess we are out of line for wanting that.
There is a pretty extreme double standard here. "Leave the AFK Macrotainers alone, and let them play the game how they want for their $15," you say. Well, what about my $15? What about the way I want to play the game? That is, with my dancer looking good on the dance floor and not "walking through" 15 other toons that just stand there like lumps. My enjoyment doesn't count, only theirs, right?
"Oh just ignore them" works when there is one in a corner. It does NOT work when there are eight of them in the middle of the dance floor. What, I am supposed to go over into the corner myself, and let them have the spotlight? Because they are doing NOTHING they are entitled to center stage while I, doing the actual work at the keyboard, am relegated to a side-show?
IF, in fact, AFK Macroers were NOT interfering with my game play, I wouldn't care a whit about them (I'd still think they were silly, mind, but I wouldn't care about 'em). But they DO interfere with my ability to enjoy the game, and simple /ignore will not fix the problem. Even if it would make their toons vanish from MY screen, they would be there on everyone else's screen and I would still not look like I was dancing "prettily" to people who walk in -- which is the be all and end all of being a dancer: looking pretty on the dance floor.
So please, with this attitude that they are these innocent victims and we are the villains here. That's a load of bull.
