I've just thought of a simple way to impliment a Fame system for Entertainers.
The idea that combat classes now have 'levels' inspired the idea that entertainers, even once they reach the dizzying heights of master, still have goals to work towards. The lack of goals once master is achieved is a major flaw in the whole concept of entertainers. This is what keeps people playing these types of games...cooler armor...better weapons...better skills etc.
Perhaps its beenthought of beforebecause it seems quite straight forward and easy to impliment but i cant be bothered trawling through all the old posts to check.
Anyway...
We already have a system in place that keeps a track on how many people have /watched you perform (eg theatre missions)
So how easy would it be to reverse the system and instead of counting down from say 30-0 have it count up and keep a track indefinatley on how many people have /watched you.
Then...
Set benchmarks and grant rewards once the benchmarks are reached. These could come in the shape of unique titles, new dances or light effects, dancer petsand perhaps even one use schematics for unique dancer clothing.
(im sure we could think up many more ideas for rewards)
So perhaps a level system might not be so bad after all and could easily be translated to entertainers with a little imagination.
Also this idea could easily be transmogrified to work for other professions, perhaps based on item sales whatever.

I really like this idea and I think it would be really neat if implemented.
However, AFK would ruin it. If something like this was done I think you'd see all the great live entertainers suffer trying to go up the levels while seeing the afktainers gaining all of the benefits.
I wish I could think differently, I really do.
Despite that its a good idea.

Yep i'd thought of that already but we cant restrict our ideas based on the AFK goons. Perhaps it could be worked that you get no credit if a macro is running. Who knows.
Personally i don't care one way or another about people that AFK nor would i care if someone AFK'd to exploit this idea.
I play to have fun, its what i pay my subscription every month for (and have since launch)
If someone wants to pay $15 or however much it is now to have the game run in the background or when theyre asleep, who am i to argue.
I don't have a foot fetish either but i dont worry about people that do (unless they steal my shoes i guess)
Hey you! stop looking at my feet!

Absolutely disagree with any system where a buff bot could be the "most famous" dancer in our system!
I do agree with a fame system, however, maybe a more open horizion on what is fame?
For example- indeed dances, routines, and customers that watch should be a base, but maybe some non-dance items would be included such as visiting POI or getting some badges? Why you ask? Well, besides it being a bit more Star Warsy (Oh, yea I heard of here she the dancer that was on the shuttle when the hostage was rescued) it also makes it very hard for a buff bot to quailfy sincetheywould haveto leave the cantina.

What if it wasn't based on JUST how many people watched/listened, but how many DIFFERENT people and for how long?
What if each person watching you could only be a credit to your number once based on your activity. They could listen to you as well if you're a musician, but that would go toward musical fame, not dancer fame, and they had to watch or listen for AT LEAST 10 minutes without breaks.
Most bot customers go, watch for 2.5, and split. Granted, over time, 2.5 so many times would be 10, but this is where it works like the old buff thing "must watch for at least 2 minutes." In this case, they must watch for 10 consecutive minutes. The friends of the bots would sit and watch, sure, so the bots would have a little fame from them, but most customers would rather bite off their own toes than be bothered to sit and watch for a full 10. Make it 15 and its even harder for the bots to gain, but any ent that is actually giving a performace gets people sitting there for longer than that already.

My hubby came up with another suggestion:
Celebrity status based on location.
There would be different statuses based on where and how often you perform. Say you're a bot planted at the Coronet Cantina. You get the prerequisite20 listeners, congrats, you are now a local celebrity for that area. Since you never move, you never get additional status. Twenty may not seem like much, but hang on and read the rest of this.
Now, say you're a live ent, and you do the same thing and get local celebrity status forCoronet. Then you take your dancing shoes and go to Kor Vella and get 20 more so you are a local celebrity there. You do this again in Tyrena. You now have status as a local celebrity in 3 major cities. You are now a planetary honoree, or somethin like that. So you're famous on Corellia, congratulations!
Being the driven superstar you are, you now go and repeat this entire pattern, gaining status in Mos Eisley, Bestin, and Mos Espa. Then you travel and gain status in Theed, Kadaara, and Moenia. You are now a well known figure on three planets, which qualifies you for Fame status, you are a Galactic Icon, THAT is an accomplishment and not one many bots would bother with.
This would work because first of all, most bots don't travel, plain and simple, ruins their whole idea of being available in a reliable place. Second, getting 20 listeners is one thing, getting them to follow you to 8 more locations is a whole other ballgame. Add in that most people flock to Theed, Bestine, or Coronet and don't really go to the other cities for entertainment and voila!you actually have to have real friends to help you achieve status, not well-trained customers.

I like it!
After reading this my husband also came up with an idea...lol.
He is working on Jedi and when I described this he asked what if the fame system worked something like the Jedi Knight trials? I like the idea of local fame, then planet fame, then move on. What if it was tied to a type of quest, with special titles at the local lvl, planet lvl, and galaxy lvl? A SuperStar title, LOL. But it would be kinda neat and be geared towards the "live" performer. This sounds like fun.

LMAO, I hafta laugh now, cause my hubby actually suggested the titles idea and quests too but Ididn't include em in my post cause all I could see was him teasing me and calling me "SuperStah" (Molly Shannon impersonation included) and I just groaned.
