Thread: Double Buffs Fact or fiction?

Hi . I've heard a few rumors in game lately about some kind of double buff that entertainers can give since the last big patch, all I know is it apparently involves getting the customer to /stopwatch and then buffing again? But I didn't think that was possible because of the 2 hours required between mind buffs. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this rumor of double buffs ?

If anything buffs are harder to do! We can't even buff in tandem with a Musician at the moment!! ( /comfort Kirah and Roho ) There are even problems attempting the buff with a personal droidout!. So I do think its rumor in fact this is the first I have heard of it. Also I am positive this would be considered an exploit.

Yeah, it's a fact... but these double buffs have been around longer than since the last patch. The devs know about it.

There was a double buff, but I'm not sure if it still works. It wasn't a double to the stat, but to the duration.

My understanding of it before was you would watch for the regular amount of time, stop watching and activate your buff. Then you watch again for the same amount of time, but when time is up instead of stopping from the radial or using /stopwatch, you run out of range so you get that "You stop watching ____ because she is too far away" message.

Then when your first buff wears off, you type /stopwatch, and the second buff is activated.

D'oh I have been asked too, and I didn't know it was doing anything. I just assumed it was a weird customer. Anything that radiates exploit scares me so I'll probably just hope no one asks again. With the way things are going lately, I'm lucky to give them the first buff anyway...

If it sounds like an exploit, looks like an exploit, gives added bonuses like an exploit, its probably an exploit and I for one would think twice about doing them.

Almost... and it still works, at least a few days ago.

You do the 1st buff normally, the watcher /stopwatch-es

then he starts watching again, and you /setperform again, and buff again. In the end he does NOT /stopwatch, and he runs not away (since the "you stop watching cause too far away" is the same as /stopwatch), because that would try to apply the buff now, but since he's already buffed it won't work.

Instead you /stopdance. Now the watcher can leave the area without getting the "you stop watching..." message when he leaves.

When the first buff runs out he types /stopwatch, and the second buff activates.

Since we can't overwrite buffs like doc's can (if you go with a buff that lasts for another 30 mins to the same doc (or someone with better stats), you'll get the buff refreshed to 3 hours again), since we can't extend a buff over 2 hours, no matter what, while docs get 3:40 hours on my server regulary i think its kinda fair that with this we can do our buffs for the same duration, or "refreshing" a buff this way (activate it when the other is gone)

Well I think it's maybe a bug or a loophole. I don't think it's an exploit. However, lots of people didn't think the 30 second buff was an exploit, and look what happened. (Although there's a chance they only fixed that because the constant stopping and starting also gave inordinately high xp to musicians.)

You know if someone asked me to do it I'd try, but I don't know if I'd remember to suggest it on my own. It's a bit of a hassle really. And frankly in a buff system that's completely undocumented, where our accumulated knowledge is all based on player experimentation and guesswork, who's to say what's an exploit?

I'll admit I've used this before, but I don't make it regular practice. I usually do it when there's some sort of ingame failure or something doesn't work right. If I dance my butt off for 5 minutes buffing someone and it only takes for 30 minutes. I cannot possibly ask the client to wait 30 minutes and come back. And, they can't "drop" the buff. So, yes, I've explained how the "extra" buff works and told them to do that when their first buff wears out. I feel I'm completely justified in doing so at this point.

What is the current feeling amongst you off this I have been asked to do this two or three times and feel awkward rejecting it to a customer but I also feel that i am some how cheating the system persay. I don't like doing and i seriously have to weigh my ethics and morals when it comes to providing this service or not.

I am SO not in the know about these things - as the saying goes,I not only don'tknow anything, I don't suspect anything! LOL!

I would like to hear from Panthu on this one. It would certainly give a dancer (and musician if it works for them as well) a leg up (pun intended) on the current buff blunder, but it does sound like a potential exploit to me. And since we aren't allowed to have anything that would make our profession viable, it will probably be nixed in the next patch . . . /sigh

I have 2 characters (well 3, but the other one is a secret, sssh), a Doctor and a (former) Dancer. I have no problem at all with the mindbuff stacking trick at all, when musician/dancer buffs worked in tandem I'd do it all the time. Knowing you have 4 hours of mind buffs under your belt allows you to plan far more long hunts and you can stay out in combat for longer, rebuffing your bod if you're a doc. This was a workaround to the Devs ludicrous imposition of the 2 hour timer on Entertainers and now it can still be done, but without being able to buff simultaneously it's not worth sticking around for 4 buffs' worth to do it.
