But I find myself treated like one.

I realize we have all read posts like the one I'm making so many times before. But tonight really ticked me off. I'm buffing a guidie when someone invited me to group with them, I declined and stated that I would be leaving the cantina when I finished buffing my friend.

He gets mad and says "well then how will I get my buff?" I said "I didn't know I HAD to buff you."

He got mad and left, and to top that off, he was a master docter. A docter who must get tons of tells for buffs and things should know better!

Well, I came into this thread hoping to see something like:

I'm not a Buff-Bot, but I play one on TV.

I'm not a Buff-Bot, but I did save a ton of money on car insurance by switching to Geico.

or

I'm not a Buff-Bot, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Sorry you had a bad experience... I hope you take my attempt at being humorous as I meant it - to cheer you up a little. = )

*hugs and offers chocolate*
tell him you'll buff for him when he demands it like that when he'll buff you when you demand it. Oh, and only accept 2k-5k credits for his buff, because what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

UGH....bitter bitter bitter

She was invited to join some random schmuck's group without a word being spoken to her, and yet she wasn't treated like a bot?

Disagree, disagree, disagree. She WAS treated like a bot, and this kind of stuff makes me crazy. I campaign against this ALL the time on Tarquinas, and I've stopped being nice about it. If someone comes in and demands an invite to the entertainer group, his chances of being buffed by me go out the window. Even if he backtracks andasks the room at large if anyone can buff him, it won't be me. I get tired of reeducating people.

This is one of the things that drove me out of the cantinas and only logging on my dancer to do the crawls or to occassionally play with my pets (which are now running off doing their own thing and don't follow my commands, making creature less enjoyable). I am not sure that the "buffbot syndrome" that has been spreading like wild fire is going to be so easily reversible. Trying to cure it one combatant at a time is going to be extremely difficult since most have never actually taken the time to talk to an ATK entertainer.

She was treated as a bot initially and she did explain, politely, that she was leaving after buffing her friend. It was the combatant that then got upset and ran off. We don't owe that type one second of retraining and even if we did I'm not going to chase them down or send them tells trying to explain how I'm not there for their sole service. They want to understand then they can stay, ask questions, and be polite. I've gotten in the face of, reported, and generally run off many rude players in cantinas. I'm not hesitant at all in telling someone who says "Invite Plz" that I'm not a robot and simply asking for a buff will do the trick. If they don't respond politely (which only happened twice) I'm not afraid to tell them in no uncertain terms where they stand as I /deny them.

Yes I try very, very hard to be polite at all times and to educate players when I get the chance. She didn't have the chance this time and I'm just sorry it upset her so much. I hope it upset the combatant doc and he died horribly to mind disease sometime later in the evening to a screecher far out in the backwoods of endor.

Thisis the crux ofthe problem, imo. No further explaination is needed.

I stopped going to the main cantinas to hang with some friends mainly because the buffing situation is out of hand - let me in group - invite please - hurry up - how come I cant get in group - I need a buff!!! Those are constant things you hear as a group leader and heaven forbid if there isn't room in the group to get everyone in right away. Alot of entertainers feel it is important to stay part of the entertainer group so that the people leveling are getting the valuable BF xp that they need - so maybe there are 2 -5 slots open for people needing a buff at a time.

Im here to defend the combatants, most of my mates and i always ask nicely if we could hve a mind buff, i always make chat with people in the cantina and i cant stand buff bots, it makes cantinas look like some sick drug abuse place were u cant hear anything and everyone isnt talking but moving to some unknown beat lol

I have been on both sides. On my combat character I ask nicely for enhancements and healing. If there is a live entertainer almost always I get a positive response or at the very least a polite, "Sorry, I don't have enough skill yet."

On my dancer I see first hand what the majority of combat players think of our profession and role in the game. "Invite plz" is more often than not thought of us a polite way to ask for a mind buff. As is "buff plz", "invite 2 else grp" or simply walking in and going /shout can i get a buff????. More often than not I see these same people while I am on my combat character stand in a single file line patiently waiting their turn to politely ask a doctor for a set of enhancements while gladly paying between 8-25k for the set.

There are several very polite players who are combatants unfortunately there are far more that aren't. Now more often than not starting a polite dialog will get a polite response from the ones who aren't polite to start with, it is mostly just conditioning. However there are enough of them who could care less and really do expect us to provide for their game with zero regard for the fact that we are just as much here to have fun as they are. Of course these are the same jerks who don't hesitate to steal mission nests, jump doc lines, or do anything else that enhances their single player game. We just see them more often because the few cantinas that are populated concentrates them.

Just to give you an example I sometimes go to MO on dantooine and hang out. When the buff bots get crowded I'll start getting the "invite to elwyn plz" chatter in spacial. I always laugh and let them know its my group so no one can invite them. Then I ask if they want buffs to which, more often than not, the person will say yes or yes please (no plz). I'm happy to buff them, never ask for a set tip amount, and try to work everyone through as rapidly as possible. I don't group an individual but will start grouping if I get a line.

I'm also quick to throw a /deny on some dweeb who just starts spamming "invite plz" even after I've given my little speach. That one is always a real shocker because most people don't even know it exists. My best time using it was one DWB group I was buffing. I had stopped my hunting and traveled to endor to do the group, and ended up with me and Imaji waiting almost an hour on them to get their act together. One guy was complaining that myself and IMaji wanted 10k each talking about how it was way to much. He was moaning in range of me so I simply responded that robots might be free but this was MY game time I had given up for his. I then said it won't cost him jack ... welcome to deny. Not only was he totally shocked it existed but he ended up being kicked out of the group because without mind buffs he was too big a liability to the small group that was going.
