Thread: Where have all the entertainers gone!
Personally... as an ex dancer i feel the whole elite profession is not rewarding in anyway. It's a great place to meet people and talk with your friends while helping them mind heal, but as far as monetary gain.. it's sad.
The crafters and artisans are in the same position. These people are the ones that need higher paying missions due to the fact that they have to buy much needed resources to even finish thier professions. On top of the fact that they can't do thier job without it.Name a fightingclass that has that problem? All the fighting classes make tons of money and xp on missions. If they choose to use up much needed skill pts to pursue these professions, they lack the monetary gain to buy their much needed resources. Doctors are also in that category. The mission payment for these classes are just silly to bother with. And waiting to make money by being tipped is as silly as expecting someone to tip you for training them. Hum... think it cost me 9K to train in my last dancing skill. Good thing I have a BH for a partner or i wouldn't be able to afford that easily.
I propose that these professions become alternate skills, using none of the original skill points to achieve them. Or at least lowering them enough so that these people that chose to help others are not lacking in ways that could earn them money or for that matter protecting themselves just getting to their pa halls and or harvestors. Dancing/entertaining/tailoring ect.are not skills that can be used well out in the field. Therefore it should be an elective, a choice for fun and helping others in your own way.

most of the entertainers on Kauri/ dearic have quit their professions because of this by the way.
I disagree. While I am not a dancer yet, (merely a lowly entertainer) I have found it quite rewarding to play music/dance, even as a male character.
I can't speak for crafters, artisans, or doctors as I have not experiancedthem yet. As far asthe entertainer tree is concerned, I see themit an rp or at least socially intensive path. I like the fact that tips are the major source of income, it is a refreshing change from the way most other professions gain credits. Waiting to be tipped is silly? You have a huge 9k charge for your skills? I made 9k in one night just playing and dancing, and that was in a group where everyone else got tipped as well.
It's kinda like being a server at a restaurant. You make a lower wage (missions) compared to other employees but your tips should make up for it. Granted there are good nights and bad nights, but it should average out. I do think that something needs to be done about the creativity of entertainer based missions, and the pay on them is not where it should be yet. As to protecting yourself when you are out in the field...do what people that work in clubs and restaurants do IRL, leave in a group. ;P
Anyways, just my two cents. Some people don't think rp or social aspects should affect the game at all. I for one love it.

Seglane... Money isn't everything. Ask a school teacher who makes barely enough to get by on and works ridiculous hours why he or she does it. It's not for the money, that's certain... it's because they get something beyond money, something you can't put a price on, out of teaching.
Dancing is the same way. Sure, I can make more credits in the game by doing almost anything else. BUT... there is the intangible, "can't put a price tag on it," business of dancing that makes it worth while. The socializing, the RP, the pure FUN of the profession, make it worth more than all the credits everyone in my entire galaxy could conjure up if they all chose to tip me their entire fortune at once.
I wouldn't trade the fun of the profession for all the credits on Naboo. To me, THAT is the reward, not the money.

That's not a design flaw -- it is the design. Missions should not be the primary means of an inherently social class (entertainer, medic) for making money. These classes have to -- and ought to have to, IMO -- make money from the other players.
If everyone could just make money by missioning and being solo, what the heck would the point be of an online multiplayer game? The whole point of being online and having other players online is that you are supposed to interact with them. That's where the idea of tips and buying crafted items come in.
Now, you would be right to say that the "solo mission runners" are quite stingy with their "phat lewt" and don't like to pay a few measly credits for a heal. But that does NOT mean that the dancer and entertainer classes should be re-designed. It means that better incentives need to be put in to get the soloists to act in a more cooperative and friendly fashion.

I would have to disagree...
If you play on Eclipse and have visited Rori, you would know why....
I'm a 2142 Danceratm, working towards Master.
In a full day of dancing, I'd say I'll pull in anywhere from 10-30k in tips. Half of this while I'm AFK, and this not counting tips I get from being a 4442 Doctor.
I have a reputation on Eclipse/Rori. People know me as both a dancer anda doctor. Many times there was it I who ran around with zero combat skill, risking death toheal/cureas much poison, disease, and wounds as I could. They know that I have no quarrel about healing pets. They know I try to keep my character connected as long as the server is up. They know that my favorite place to dance is on Rori. And they have thanked me for such. Sometimes rather generously I might add. Here's my method of madness (in no particular order):
- Pick no more than two places to dance and dance OFTEN. My places of choice: Rebel Outpost on Rori primarily and Anchorhead on occasion. On a VERY rare occasion, I'll cruise over to Endor and Lok, as the remote places can be prosperous for a good dancer. But I try to stay on Rori as much as I can, as the more people see you dancing, the more they will remember....
- NEVER, and I do mean NEVER, no matter how politely you think you may be doing it, NEVER EVER remind people to tip you. NEVER NEVER NEVER do this. If you have to remind people to tip you, you're not ENTERTAINING them. Always thank people who tip you, but NEVER EVER remind them to do so.
- If you haven't already done so, SEE AN IMAGE DESIGNER. The hairdo I have now is something I could not choose when I first started. I am VERY THANKFUL that there are still some Image Designers on Eclipse. Thx Laylia!
- When actively dancing, ALWAYSgreet everyone that walks in and ALWAYS give a warm farewell to everyone who leaves. A simple hello/cya lateris good enough, butthe addition sugar and spice is recommended.Conversation in between is highly recommended. And during conversation, don't be afraid to play. Being funny, charming, flirtatious, even sometimesdownright naughty canmake your show one to be remembered and keep people coming back.
- When AFK dancing, NEVER NEVER NEVER include ANYTHING that puts anything into spatial chat, /say or /shout. NEVER. People will end up /ignoring you. Also, your AFK message should be witty, funny, charming, and it should tell people where you are dancing. You never know just where that /tell came from.
- Dress to KILL! Find a good tailor. Your appearance usually fills part of the role of leaving the first impression upon someone. Which makes a better impression: well-dressed or poorly-dressed?
"NEVER, and I do mean NEVER, no matter how politely you think you may be doing it, NEVER EVER remind people to tip you. NEVER NEVER NEVER do this."
And if you're on Tempest, especially on Tatooine, following this rulewill ensure that youNEVER EVERget tipped.
My favorite solution to this is actually quite simple. Get a mouse droid or some other cheap droid that you can set to patrol around the perimeter of the cantina and name it Tip-Your-Dancers
I've seen this a couple of times, and it seems to work. It reminds people that Dancers need tips too, without being in your face or sounding like begging. It's rather like leaving your guitar case open in front of you, or having a tips jar on the counter. And people won't even know who it was that was indirectly asking for tips, so everyone can benefit.
"Seglane... Money isn't everything. Ask a school teacher who makes barely enough to get by on and works ridiculous hours why he or she does it. It's not for the money, that's certain... it's because they get something beyond money, something you can't put a price on, out of teaching."
I just have to comment....I live in a state where the average teacher salary is about 10% higher than the average salary for the rest of the people who work for a living....and the teachers only work 9 months ofthe year....what a gig! And the teachers still have the guts to complain about salaries! (Obviously they are comparing themselves only to those in theattorney class). Try puttingon aroof withthehigh temperature of the dayat 98 degrees! From my vantage point you used the wrong example...lol
I suggest the mission rewards for entertainers be increase. They are significantly less than those of other classes.

I have to disagree Beery, I am on Tempest - Tatooine and I make a nice living without asking for tips.
I am a Master Image Designer that Loves to dance. I was working My way through Dance 3 with footloose at Coronet cantina, On the naritus server. Joking with the other dancers about How I don't like footloose, etc.... I greeted everyone as they came in, and as they left, asked about How their day was, etc. And with My ID title off, and NOT doing Image design I made 30k that Night. To me that is a Nice Living, My first day as master Image designer I Hustled, and made 90K, so all in all I have to say that if you Love what you do, and do it for the Love of the Profession, that comes across, ppl will somehow sense your Love of it, and the tips will come. As to you Not getting any tips , at that cantina on the server you are on, the solution is simple, Go to another Cantina.
I usually Image design and dance at the theed cantina, I dance for the XP. I don't Know of any cantina as good. For XP. But I rarely ever get tipped. and somehow though Most entertainers say " no one tips here" I have gotten some tips in the 1k range, and this is without Novice Dancer.
It comes down to going where the tips are. If you want tips , and are Not getting any where you are, then go somewhere else.
Then again I have come to see, that the dancers I Know, that really enjoy dancing for the Love of dancing, for some reason also end up being the ones getting the Most tips..

I"m sorry.... i think i came on a bit too strong with the "not rewarding in anyway" comment. Dancing is fun... as far as meeting and socializing! That's the best part! And i have met many friends this way. You are right about that!
And... i wasn't saying that we need to get rid of the Dancing and social classes, more.. it would be nice if the missions were at least comparable to what it costs say.. to keep the class happy and the tailors happy.
My experience on the Kauri server is that many have left the profession due to lack of tipping, which can lead to lack of being useful. Thats why i felt it is sad that a dancer/entertainer missions areonly worth 200k. No... money isn't everything, i agree... but it does help to buy those nice clothes from your favorite tailor.

I wasn't stating that these classes needed redesigned... merely that to keep the class going to give them the incentive to stay a dancer. So that we also agree on. ![]()
A big thanks to all you who have given thier imput. It might just be the planet you hang outon that makes all the difference.
Happy Dancing.... and be well!

I don't get it. I can make at least 20.000cr a day out on Lok or Endor. Thats 3 small houses a day!
