Thread: Opening a force slot.
I get the impression that despite what we were told in beta and what we were told prebeta about our characters playing a noncombat role will never give us an oppritunity to open a force slot.
I really thought that SWG would consider all play styles, but oh well... I guess my entertainer days have finally ended. I am off to powergame my combat character. Most likely my favorite character to play, my entertainer, will not perform again. As much time and effort asI put into building that character and actively playing it I would have thought I could still have a chance to get equal consideration with a combat character in reguards to the possibility of opening a force slot.
I mastered every form of entertainment aside from image design (master entertainer, master dancer, master musician). I travelled the galaxy playing in big cantinas, small ones, PA halls, and player made camps. I healed so many players that I can no longer get a lick of experience from healing a mind. I have made a small fortune in tips and I have taught enough skills to master three professions and still be maxxed out in apprentice points. I even joined the rebellion and did my best (dying often as my character was a marked target for even the least skilled of imperial agents). Yet no matter what I do as anentertainer there is no possibility of my opening a force slot without learningenough fighting skill to killa creature that can offer me a holocron and then dropping my skills to master the professions given by it.
*shrugs* I guess after all is said and done it boils to down too one indisputable fact that has been shouted at every entertainer from day one of the game being live... Go get a real profession if you want to enjoy the game.
I think that you are probably right. I think that you probably have to master many professions to unlock your FSCS. You probably do have to have combat skills. You probably don't have to be particularly kind or nice. What I am wondering though is, are you sure?
Despite the way the current slots have been unlocked (and I've only read about ONE person's experience), does that mean that is the ONLY way for all of us? I ask because, if there is a set formula and we can all unlock our FSCS, wouldn't there then be hordes of Jedi as soon as that formula is uncovered?
Again, I think you are probably right and you will have to master other professions, take up combat, and give up entertainment. Still, would you have been doing alot of hairstyles and exotic4 when you attained your Jedi?
I'm not trying to sound critical; indeed I've wondered myself, "would I dance if I were a jedi?". I wouldn't. So, until I am ready to retire my dancer because I'm done with dancing, I won't be seeking my FSCS.
Reachwind, do what you must to find enjoyment in the game. May the force be with you.
We do not yet know all the ways to open the force sensitive slot.
It is entirely possible (but unlikely) that you could dance the slot open.
For example, maybe the first dancer to achieve some set of goals would have their FS slot open. If this were the case, it would no doubt be a long list. Like dancing in every cantina, hotel, and theaterin the galaxy, doing all the possible dancer missions, etc.
If I were designing the system, I would have that code in place, but that does not mean that it currrently is.
They have NEVER said that any profession would have a chance. What they said was that any character would have a chance. We have to jump through the same hoops a combat profession does.
I am not so sure that they are right. It seems to me that the process of becoming a master might include one or more things, under normal conditions, that are themselves pre-requisites for getting a force slot. For example one person decided it must be apprentice points. Maybe -- but I don't think so. Yet I think he is closer than the people who think the profession, itself, and its mastery, get you the slot. You don't need a holocron to do this -- it's just there to help you. You probably don't actually need to master that one profession either -- it's just that doing so might lead you more closely to that than mastering another.
How would this work? Let's say for example, you need to have gotten a total of X amount of experience in each of Y different classes of experience. For example, there is Entertainment Healing (that's one class), and there is Medical Crafting (that's another class). So the game could easily figure out how many new classes of experience you need, and figure out a profession that will get you one or or more of those new classes. So for instance, as a dancer/musician/entertainer, you would only have a couple of classes of experience (if that's all you are) - ID xp, Ent Heal xp, Music XP, and dance xp. Now you get a holocron somehow and it knows you need 10 more "types" of xp, so it tells you "master marksman." What does this do? Well, it gives you 4 more types of XP -- pistol, rifle, carbine, and combat. Getting you closer to the goal of 10.
Now, I am not saying this IS how it works. Probably not, in fact. But it's easy to see how a system like this could look like it is built for combatants/powergamers, when in fact it's just that those guys "burn through" things so fast that they are more likely to happen upon it than "regular" players.
So, I don't think it's time to throw in the towel yet. There's no way to know for sure what this person did to open the slot, and remember it's differet for everyone, anyway.

Valblood, entertainer missions don't give holocrons as a reward. Show me a player giving holocron's as tips to dancers.
There is no way for a dancer to earn holocrons by entertainer skill use. There is no way to open a force slot by using dance skill. In other words entertainers are not given access to this content.
... tell me, if you're a force-senitive dancer, what good do you do for the Galaxy?
Jedi is a combat template. And one thatLOSES ALL ITS SKILLS if it dies too many times.
If you're not a combatant on the way there, you're going to get awful frustrated once you get there.

Holocrons are not necessary for opening the force-sensitive slot. Why are you getting so hung up on them?
As a dancer/tailor I have made the decision to be a non-combatant.Therefore, I hope I am unable to become a jedi.
If I did become one, some BH would quickly be able to brag about killing a jedi.
Frankly, I think people were kidding themselves if they thought SOE would/could offer a way for socializers to gain access to the force slot. During beta, I don't recall them saying that casual-type players would have the same chance as powergamers. Ialso don't recall them saying it would be tailored to all play styles.Instead, I remember them saying it's possible for a casual gamer to get it, but it will take much longer than a powergamer.
To me, that makes sense. You want Jedi to be a reward for player effort and not just some random decision by the server as to who gets one and who doesn't. But the reward needs to be hard enough to achieve that it would take months for even a powergamer. What other options are there? Cater to entertainers with a special social type mission? Then you'd just have the powergamers convert to entertainers to find the path of least resistance. No matter what you do, they can do 10x faster because they play 10x more.
When I was just getting into SWG during beta, I had friends who would not join me because they didn't want to play and not have the ability to be a Jedi. They knew as well as I did that none of us would probably ever get it. But putting that aside, I found other things I liked about the game enough to stay.
Personally, I'm glad it's hard enough to get that only a limited number of people will ever get it. This game is set in the timelineafter the fall of the Jedi. It would be silly to have thousands of Jedi running around using their force powers everywhere.
No, pure socializers cannot get a force slot open. Nor can pure combatants or pure crafters. At least, the odds are wildly stacked against it.
The current system (which I hate) requires mastering many professions, most of which you might not otherwise wish to do.
If you really want a force character, then you will have to do a combat profession at some point along the line. That being the case, might as well start now so you can gain the ability to pick up your own holocrons. I see no point in whining about not being able to get holocrons as a dancer when you will have to become a combat class anyhow to open the force slot.
If you really can't stand the idea of picking up a combat class first, then do what dancers always do: get it as a gift. In other words get your friends to get you one. If you don't have friends that will do that, perhaps you need new friends.

A mysterious voice told me to be a pikelass!
right on Olvenskol.
most people are not happy about having to give up skills and change there toon because a holo told them to. From what i have heard the combat player does not want to intertain anyone, nor do they want to fix peoples hair. BUT they want the chance to be a jedi. they suck it up and do it anyway. So if we want the chance to be a Jedi too, we must conform too it seems.
If you are not the fighting type, why would you want one? Am i missing something? I thought the Jedi was a set fighting class. -I am not being a smart A**. I really would like to know, does the jedi have an option to dance? I did not think it did? I read alot and i thought the Jedi line was fighting.
Why would you think some one would not tip you a holo? I mean I could NOT see some one running around with a back pack full of holo's passing them out like christmas presents. But if you are someones favorite dancer and you go out of your way to buff/heal them why in the world wouldn't they tip/gift you a holo? On my server being tiped items is very common. Half the stuff i own was (err probley more than half) a tip. Or another thing you might try is this. grab yourself some sort of combat skill and the next time a group comes in the cantina looking for more to join them for a holo hunt, ask to join. Be nice and make sure you tell them your combat skills are not up to par but you would still like to join because you really want a holo. You never know what could happen if you just speek up. I know if you are a hard core dancer this may not seem to thrilling to you but, give it a shot you never know you just might find yourself having a bit of fun.
I rember being in the cave waiting for the spawn and a big group of combat players come in look around and see me standing there. It was fun. went something like this.. Pebbles!! what you doing in here?? and look how cute you are all dressed up in composit armor.. and look at that big rifle. Wow, Pebbles i did not know you were a fighter. We had a blast, and in the endI was also thanked for being there. My thought is the down time was fun and i think i had something to do with that. And to bootI made a fewnew friends.
If nothing else join a group throw some sort of combat thingy in your hand and do what you do best, make people smile. It might actually be fun to get out of the cantina for a few hours. Freash air is always a good thing.
