Thread: Opening a force slot.
A few thigs I'd like ti input on this discussion...
The word from the beginning was that ANY character/toon could become a Jedi. This by no means that any profession would have a steamroll chance. Yes, holocrons help.. but remembr, they were added in as a "guiding light" and are not a necessity... they may make it ALOT easier, but they are still not a necessity.
The Jedi skills in the game are Combat Oriented... but that by no means demands the Jedi to be a combat player. From what I can tell, the Jedi cannot learn other skills like Entertiner, etc. My 1st character made Master Weaponsmith... did not have a lick of entertaining skills, yet stayed in Cantina's and what not as much as many of the entertainers did. He played "MC" and "Owner of the Band"... introduced the members... sold drinks... etc. Who's to say the Jedi couldn't do that? The concept of a Jedi does not mean GO FIGHT WAR NOW! A Jedi is a protecter. A compassionate being. They can have all the combat skills they want, but only use them in defense of innocents, etc. Like warning someone in a Player City Cantinato be kind to the band and not lewd like they had been... maybe even stop someone from griefing a new player...
Now, does it mean that a Dancer will have to obtain other skills... Most likely yes, and by good reason. One can be "Force Sensitive" and show potential for the force and never become a Jedi... perhaps thats because they never learned how to handle chaotic situations like those that come up in combat.
If your goal in this game is to become a Jedi... good luck to you. There are alot of things against you becoming one... and then living as one. My goal from this game was entertainment... having a chance to exist in the Star Wars Galaxy... meeting people... etc. If I became a Jedi... good for me... I'm not even going to actively hunt for a holo... if I fond one... I'll look at it sure... Enjoy the game for what you have before you... thats where the pleasure comes from.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but I completely agree with the original poster, and they are not stating that they dont want to learn combat skills, or want to be a Jedi by strictly dancing, but the system that is in place right now. It is nigh impossible for someone to open their force slot, without using a holocron. And it will be very difficult for an entertainer to obtain one.
I think it would be very rare for someone to tip an entertainer something worth 4 million credits. regardless of how much you healed them and buffed them.
1. I play a character that is a dancer, a merchant, and a politician. She is NOT a combatant. As a player, I don't mind combat, in fact I think I could have fun playing a combat oriented character, but to do so, I would have to start a new character, on a new server, or completely ignore who my main character is and what makes her tick.
The current system used to open a force slot as I understand it, completely disregards the roleplaying aspect of the game. In order to have a chance at playing a force sensitive character, one must master several disparate professions, getting rid of previous ones.
If the forcesentive slot is opened per PLAYER account...meaning that I could master these professions with different characters on different servers, and open up a forcesensitive slot on whatever server I want, that would be great. If I have to master these professions with a single character, and can only open the slot on that character's server...bleh..
The point you are missing is that a Holocron is not necessary to opening your force-sensitive slot. Also, if you do procure a Holocron by the many methods available to you, thatHolocron is just as likely to tell you to Master a profession that is incompatible with Dancer. Doing the Holocron-dance is likely going to transmute your character from the Entertainer you know and love into something vastly different and unrecognizable anyway.
In the end, it only makes sense that the pre-requisite for the unlocking of a combat class is through combat.
I have no problems playing a combat character. I am quite good at it. Already working on my second holocron.
I'm just glad that there are enough people AFK in the cantinas running macros to get holocron professions that I can get my battle fatigue taken care of. The master entertainers (musicians and dancers)I knew have all dropped entertainer in favor of combat professions and no one is replacing them as played (people that actually want to have the skills)entertainers. I know a couple of people that have second and third accounts that keep entertainers online all day for their guilds but never actually sit at that character and play it.... Well unless they need to use that character to place a harvester or vote in their player city election that is.
Just look at this forum... How many of the first dancers have quit? How many of the people that really made a lot of positive contributions to the role of entertainer have given up in disgust?
