Thread: Still think AFK shouldn't be on the list Ravenmist?
Have you read the official stance on AFK macros? Read here : http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=728155
Looks like it's irrelevant whether ot not it's on the list. Quoting Jessea here:
It is NOT a violation of the in game policies to use the macro system built into the game to AFK Macro. It is a violation to use a 3rd party program to macro.
While it may not be encouraged it is not against policy to use the current system to AFK macro. I believe this issue was throughly discussed before, I'll hunt around for the link if I can remember the title. (Sorry, I don't want to do it by my name, I have too many posts for that.)
Regardless whether or not any of us like it, it looks like they're not changing the ability to AFK with in-game tools.
/shrug
Not a violation, but they attempted (poorly) to change sampling so you couldn't afk macro it.
Or maybe they just changed it so that you couldn't afk-non-macro it...
That post and the others by Jeassa are not any kind of judgement on whether AFK macrotaining is good or bad. It's just an acknowledgement that it's not a violation of the EULA.
The devs would certainly like to discourage AFK play of all types, including dancer and musician. The problem is how to do it effectively. The kinds of critical events that worked for surveying are things that would be highly annoying to a dancer or musician giving a performance. The question then becomes how you impede unattended macroing without similarly impeding attended macroing?
So far, everyone agrees it's a problem but nobody can agree on a reasonable solution.
If you've got one then feel free to propose it. I'm with Ravenmist. I'm representing this as one of my forum's top five issues because my constituents keep bringing it to me, but I personally see this as a problem that can't be solved by the developers and I'd like to focus on some other issues that ARE solvable by game mechanics.
If the user doesn't touch the keyboard or mouse for 10 minutes, start bugging the crap out of them.

I'm curious... if they're not even there, exactly what will this accomplish (besides bugging the crap out of everyone else if you use emotes to do this)?
I'm so tired of seeing this issue beaten to death. This is largely why I tend to stay out of the dancer forums. I unashamedly macroed my way through dancer. It's a pain in the rear to get to master dancer, and I personally have no desire to sit in the cantina for hours at a time when all I needed to do was powerlevel my way through dancer so I could place my city's cantina. I have zero problem with AFK macroing, I did it myself and I'd do it again with something like dancer or musician. I also have zero problem with others doing it. The only problem I have is when they spam people with their emotes and spatial messages. That gets old really fast.

Actually, until they change the EULA, it still is a violation. It just says that SOEs rules aren't enforced by them.

Honestly, if this is a problem, please get someone with a clue in online gaming into the DEV team... The more I hear from them, the more I think this is their first online project. This game needs to enforce it's rules by online aministrative personal. Like all other games out there. Seriously, it doesn't take a mastermind to do what others did more effectivly than SOE today.

So your only interest in dancer is so you can place a cantina, and this makes you an expert on the profession?
Not at all. I have two accounts, and had mastered dancer before on myfirst one, and LOVED it,but eventually gave it up to try something new. I always missed it, and when I read that master dancers were going to be able to place the PRC cantinas, I jumped at it, since I've always wanted to run a cantina as well. I was also running on a schedule, since I only discovered this after the onset of PRC's. And, YES, I think I'm an expert on the profession. I've mastered it twice now, I spend a GREAT deal of time in the cantina dancing (not AFK, mind you, now that I'm master I don't dance AFK), and I thoroughly enjoy it.
Next time you want to accuse me of something, try and find something that I might actually be guilty of.
It appears that the AFK problem is becoming an item of more universal interest.
I am seeing a lot more complaints about AFK macroers getting creature handler and marksman experience.
Not enough people care to make this an issue.
There are only like three people who post on this forum that Ravenmist looks at opinions from so if they don't decide together that it should be on the issue list it won't be.
I'm sure I'll get one star for saying so.
