By taking this stance, SOE is effectively saying that they would prefer cantina bots to live players. The dynamics of dancing in a cantina with AFK entertainers is just untenable.

I suppose that making it so that an entertainer does not get EXP while the AFK flag is up wouldn't work so well, would it? At least not for crafters also. Since sometimes we hide behind AFK to keep from being swamped with requests for buffs while we craft.

Then again, isn't it pretty easy to just take our Master tag down? But then there is the 'disable automatic AFK' button that I just NEVER did understand, that's like ASKING for this to happen since Auto AFK untags when you come back to the keyboard...

So perhaps (perhaps) Making it so that you can not get exp while the AFK flag is up would work, with the removal of the 'disable auto afk' button.

That seems to be the easiest solution to me- aside from trying to code it to bump afk people or register what their mouse is doing etc.

But there is NOTHING that can be done to keep EVERYONE happy. Pretty simple. The holo people will be sure to whine, the crafters will be unable to put up the AFK flag since sometimes people put them on the friend's list so that they can bombard thme with tells (but the /add ignore function still works so I suppose the change of the master tag and that will help or an /anon function)

They can't keep us all happy.

Here's a way to kill most AFK macroing (in game kind, not the illegal kind):

After 10 minutes of no keyboard or mouse activity, the client issues a /sit command, and will not allow any action that causes the character to stand up until there IS keyboard or mouse activity. Not only would they not be dancing afk, they'd be sitting down out of everyone's way.

Yould still hack up the client or use some 3rd party program, but it would probably kill 90% of it.

The entire afk problem is spreading thru out the professions and sooner or later they will either be doing one of two things,,,stopping afk or consolidating servers,,and frankly I am not sure which will happen first,,

And if they wait long enough,,,there wont be many that care one way or the other

Does anyone remember the big entertainer sit-out that was planned (but never occurred)? Or any of the smaller ones that took case on other servers? I know on the server I play on, one time there were just too many rude customers, so the entire band picked up and moved outside the cantina, and went back to playing and dancing, leaving a sole AFK novice entertainer to heal people, while the band full of masters and near masters had their fun outside. Nearly a full group at that. Did I mention this was in Theed?

That just can't happen anymore.. If the all the ATK entertainers in Theed were to get up and walk out, everyone would just laugh at both of them and go get healed by everyone else still in there.

Hi

I'm kinda new so if i sound like i don't know what I'm doing its because i don't but i am on my way to master dancer and I'd like to comment ^_^

I use a AFK dance macro . . . . and i generally feel bad about it but I will admit that you do lose a lot of play time in the cantina performimg (especiall when no one is there to watch or strike up a conversation) But I don't use my Macro in the cantina . . . nor do i have shouts or requests for tips in it. I basicall y just use it to grind dance exp outside or in my home. I think that AFK performing in a cantinais kinda wrong. All it does it hurt every other entertainer who is at their keyboards. Players like AFK dancers cause they don't generally feel the need to tip since the dancer isn't really around. It detracts from other entertains who are "really" there and it boring and nothering when they have a shout that appears every 3 minutes about hor you should "watch them" or "tip well".

I've in in alot of bands where the leader goes AFK and we wind up having to disband and reform . . .which can be a pain when you have 5 or more entertainers.

I think that the AFK macro has a place but i think its abused . . . a reccomondation i can make to the developers is that AFK dancers shouldn't be able to heal mind wounds or battle fatigue. This would limit the experience they can get and force them to stay at their keyboards. and if other players want to get healing they'll have to find "active" entertainers. I also think that AFK entertainers should get auto ejected from groups if they are AFK for too long. But that is more of a player thing i guess . . . I know that i kick out AFK people if they are gone too long ^_^ and when they come back I re-invite.

So am I misguided? maybe but I am new and this is my first MMO.
