Thread: Entertainer droids?

Follow on question...

What would YOU like the 'entertainer droid' to do?

(Within reason, of course...we'd all like it to contruct a giant stage with flashing lights and a diamond-vision screen to broadcast our image across the city, but it aint gonna happen. )

It sounds like it's all still in the design phase, so if we as a community come up with our ideas about what our droid should do, maybe they'll listen. Maybe that's special effects, or maybe that's something else.

One question answered at least. From the mouth of a dev:

"Yes, it means brand new effects never before available to entertainers."

Well, the whole point is to be nice to look at, so I don't see the problem there.

That does look nice, though. And with new effects. I cannot wait.

I support healing the Wounds (and possibly BF) with such a droid. At one point, I'd have said, "No, no, keep the healing in the cantinas." But since the cantinas are boring nowadays, I'm thinking that dancing in the streets would be more fun. And it's not like you can AFK that, since your droid uses batteries.

I look forward to having a droid behind me doing spiffy effects in conjunction with my own. That will look fabulous!

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

By the way, I just realized a potential neat ability with these entertainer droids....the patrol function. If we can queue effects, then we can use patrol to actually have a moving effect generator, which would be really really neat.

Beyond that, I don't see us getting added healing abilities or the ability to heal BF outside of the current locations with these droids. If the ranger modular camp proposal gets implemented(whichI recommend all entertainers read and support) that would give us an option to heal BF in the wilderness using stage modules that *we* supply.

But other functionality I'd like to see would be a module that can increase our range that people can see/hear us.

Just a thought, what if entertainer droids could be used like medic droids, but only within a city? That would give you your street performers. Of course, then you'd get a clog of people trying to do perform right outside the starports, so maybe it's no such a good idea.

I love them the way they are. Adding more places we can heal BF would acualy hurt the class not help it.

Silly me, I alway thoughtthe function of the entertainment professions was to heal and buff the mind. Come to find out your role in the game is to look nice. No wonder people think you're useless, much like the stereotypical pretty blonde without a brain.

Yep, silly you for not realizing that the role of the Entertainer is to entertain. Here's your first clue: If it ends with an "-er" it often means "someone or something that does X where X is the word that precedes '-er.'" Oh, and a "newspaper" is not one who "newspapes." You'll get the hang of this. Don't you worry.

Healing is a nice feature to throw in with entertaining, though.

To address Tiaga's concern, having Entertainers clog the starport might not be too bad. It would be like the subways and their street performers. And if there is a limitation, such as droid batteries, then it's not like Theed or Coronet cantinas, because you have to actually feed your droid in order to heal people in the street. So you need to be at the keyboard. This may be the motivation to keep players at the keyboard that Entertainers have been looking for. It doesn't punish AFKers, but it provides a reason to be at the keyboard.

I guess someone could stuff 144 droid batteries in his toolbars and run a macro that jams batteries in his droid. I'm not even sure if this is possible with the macro code. But dragging 144 icons every time you reset your macro definitely doesn't sound like fun.

Well, that's not too exctiting.

So. Are these 10 supposed to be outside of those ones?

And I also liked the idea of having the droid able to allow us to heal BF and mind wounds anywhere- like the med droids do. (I can't think of a RP way to explain it though) Or... Buff... ourselves? ::ducks, snickering::

Function: assigned duty or activity. Which professions are assigned the activity of healing and buffing mind?

((*sigh* People, don't feed the troll.

And I liked the idea the droid engineers had - make it bump up our enhancement percentage a little bit, like taking us to 110+% at master. I'd also like to see it shorten the time it took to apply a buff. New effects are fun, too.

I would love to see droids get greater utility and more widespread use. It would make it feel more like Star Wars, and every time I have snuck in to the Droid Engineer forum, they have come across as people that really care about their profession, and making droids that everyone can find useful. I am all for giving them more to do.))
