As a former master dancer who fell in love with the dancing profession, I found out today that it's a lost cause. I recently took it up again in hope upon hope that since the holocraze is over it would be better. I was wrong.
I just left the Theed Cantina on Ahazi due to frustration and anger, and pretty much because I just didn't want to hear it anymore. I joined the group and the leader was semi-occupied so I offered to take over. He gladly accepted and passed on the job. Usually I am one of the only ATK entertainers in a group, the rest are afk, being leader is NOT new to me because of this. Was not much different this time, a few ATK now and then, but the majority was afk. People were coming in and asking to join the group, being "old school" as I am. I said in group, if you have the AFK tag over your head I may boot you to make room for people looking for a group. Not one person said anything, but of course...they were afk. So I started booting people to let others in. And then the tells started. Why did you kick me?etcetcetc. Some were nasty, some were not...but over all that started the downfall of my experience in Theed today.
Time went on, people kept wanting to join, people kept getting booted. A lot never even noticed, of course not..they were afk. But eventually it got to the point we had a few spots open, and someone said why don't you invite some afk people to fill the group? To which my response was, naw I'd rather not. Too many of them are complaining anyways when I kick them. And now, about 2 hrs after I had been leader and booting afk people, and saying so repeatedly in group chat that I might boot you if I need the spot, someone says you are booting afk people? Which proceeded into a huge argument with the now ATK people who had been AFK the majority of the two hours I was there. And I'm not talking afk as in not talking.. I'm talking afk as in the flag over their head afk kind. I'd had enough really, so I disbanded the group and started reinviting the people who I knew were ATK. But this didn't go well, pretty much everyone disbanded and joined the now "afk" leaders group.. Brilliant btw..having an AFK leader.
So in any case, I thought there was hope. But I was wrong. You can't change a profession that doesn't want to be changed. People don't care anymore. That is what made me quit the first time. Those of us who tried to stick it out were literally chased out of the cantinas by afk hologrinders. And today we are still chased out by people who are AFK and gang up on you when you try to change it. So I'm done. I give up. I thought it was saveable, but it's not. I applaud those of you who stick it out, and I feel sorry for those who are starting up in the profession the way it is now. It's not even a shadow of what it once was, and they will never have the joy of knowing what it's truly like.
I made the mistake of thinking that maybe I could make a difference, but once again I was chased out by those who choose to abuse, exploit and further continue to ruin what was once one of the greatest professions in the game. I tried to give it a second chance, I thought that maybe it'd be better this time. I was so very wrong.

Recursive macros are being removed Saera.... on Tuesday I believe.
Once that's done... fully AFK Dancers will be a thing of the past, won't they?

Actually .. only the /macro command is being removed. The ui action toolslot (or whatever it is) is not which is, in my opinion, one of the stupidest things ever.
From the Stratics chat:
Brekkee - *Rennio{Flurry}* "With the proposed removal of looping macros, will entertainers still be able to use /ui action toolbarSlot00 loops in order to communicate with customers, or will they still be forced to keep repunching short macros? The removal of looping macros solves our buff bot problems, but limits us in the customer service we are allowed to provide to patrons.
TH - *Rennio and to everyone who is concerned about recursive macros, we are not going to remove the /ui macro commands. We are going to use a different method to encourage people to play "at the keyboard". Removing those basic abilities for players to use the GUI command would be a huge inconvenience and we dont want to do that.

Hmm... I see. ![]()
I wonder how removing /macro <name> and leaving in /ui action toolbar will stop looping? Unless they intend to make macros unable to be put into the toolbar at all?
I wonder what this "different method" is?
Anywaybe encouraged that it's going to be addressed.... somehow. ![]()
Thanks Metis.

Macros are not being removed. Recursicve macros may be removed at some time far in the future in a galaxy far far away. Thunderheart made the announcement that recursive macros are going to be removed just so we all kill each other and the devs don't have to worry about entertainers anymore.

A few points...
As of now nobody except maybe the corrs (who aren't allowed to say) knows how the recursive macro will end. I'm assuming, or at least hoping, that whatever it is truly does end extended afk gameplay. They said they weren't taking out the /ui toolbar thingy. For all we know, we don't even know if they're taking out the /macro command. It could be something as simple as a timer on the same kind of activity. I really have no idea. So, we can't really speculate on if it will or will not work until we know what it is.
The second thing is, I think we have to be patient for Publish 10 to come out (hopefully next week.) As of now, even though some people claim that it doesn't make a difference, the fact is, people are *still* grinding professions to unlock the slot. Next week, hopefully that all ends. I'm hoping that this will do something significant in regards to afk entertainers. I don't know that it will or not. But, presumably, once publish 10 hits, the only people that will be doing entertainer are those who *want* to be entertainers. I'm hoping that in and of itself will encourage a lot more people to be atk. And, I'm hoping that it means that slowly but surely, the ATK players will be in the majority once again. The only non-entertainers that will be grinding will be the future buffbots, which, hopefully, will end with the end of the recursive macro. As of now, things, IMO, are still just the same as they were a month ago with afk and grinding. I never expected to see any significant change until Publish 10. So, don't give up just yet. Wait for Publish 10...maybe even 2 weeks after Publish 10 just for everything to "settle" before coming to the conclusion to give up.

Maybe they will.. hopefully they will make it so you can't repeat a macro while standing in the same spot for 10-15 minutes. That will stop AFK'ers since they can't leave a macro running all day long and not be at the keyboard to move around. My reasoning for this is I don't want to lose my CoB macro.
How truly sad though your story, I actually used to be an entertainer at the launch of the game and I had alot more fun then I do now.

I just have to say that I'm incredibly tired of reading all these psychic posts by people who somehow already know how the devs are going to implement this change. We don't know. Let's wait and see how it happens before we burn the devs at the stake, okay?

i play on ahazi too, and i was in the theed cantina as well today. i was going to post a thread about this as well, but it seems you have beaten me to it. i was in there forabout 2 hours, and i'm not kidding, there were no less than 6 (yes 6) buff bots in there. nars-ipitiyu (sp?), cristen pleasures, lttlkitten, 2 i can't remember, and, drum roll please, adara (for those who don't remember, she was the first buff bot to get the badge for excellence in buffing). i was playing with a few kids in there, doing a bandflo chorus line, they were having fun with it (except for a couple of the musicians in the group who were bitching about not getting any xp from bandflos, [i told them that xp is a good thing, but it's not all the entertainment professions were about]). and i started talking with a few of the cantina patrons that had made it past the doorway without crashing their computers about how many buffbots were parked in the front of the place. i wasn't going on my usual tirade against them, i was merely commenting on how many there were, and how they wererudely spamming spatial into the mess that it always is. but anyway... i suddenly get a tell from adara. and i'm like, "IT LIVES!?!?!" after about 20 minutes of talking with her, and why she's been absent from theed for a while now, i realized that she's not as evil as i used to think. not to say that she's not evil, just that there is a spark of good still buried deep under a mountain of the cold ashes of evil. it may be possible to save her, to bring her back to the light side. i think if we combined our efforts, we may be able to bring her around to actually being a vibrant and helpful member of the entertainment community. and not just her, other buffbots as well. if we could snag their attention, for the few minutes that they are there, and find out who their mains are, i think we could bring them around to the thinking that there are more than enough buffing dancers and musicians that there is no need for a bot. i know i may sound naive saying this, and that it's a moot point with the macro nerf on the way.
but i digress... i've strayed really far from the original topic of a discouraged ex-dancer trying to get back in the biz. it's not completly hopeless, there are a few islands of hope out there on ahazi. notably deila, and her group LIVE entertainment; famousFATWOOKIEE, and FFWB; and myself, Rosariafounder of the newest entertainers guild on ahazi, Popstars. if you do decide to go through dancing again, i can't speak for the others, but i'd be more than willing to help you out as much as i could and accept you with open arms.

Youre right guys, AFK hologrinders ARE a real pain for the Dancer profession.
I belong to the sort of entertainers who socializes a lot with guys coming in the cantina, and ive a lot of fun with it.
Butwhy do you want loop macros removed??
Sure, without loop macros no bot will survive But i dont thinkall the entertainerswant to perform all their flourishes by hand, I do not.
There has to be another way to stop these bots.

If you have people who want xp, just tell them to flo normallyduring the bandflo. They won't animate their flos while they're animating the bandflo and they'll get their xp.

But removing the loops won't make you do all flourishes by hand asyou can still use macros, you just can't make them loop.
