Actually .. only the /macro command is being removed. The ui action toolslot (or whatever it is) is not which is, in my opinion, one of the stupidest things ever.
From the Stratics chat:
Brekkee - *Rennio{Flurry}* "With the proposed removal of looping macros, will entertainers still be able to use /ui action toolbarSlot00 loops in order to communicate with customers, or will they still be forced to keep repunching short macros? The removal of looping macros solves our buff bot problems, but limits us in the customer service we are allowed to provide to patrons.
TH - *Rennio and to everyone who is concerned about recursive macros, we are not going to remove the /ui macro commands. We are going to use a different method to encourage people to play "at the keyboard". Removing those basic abilities for players to use the GUI command would be a huge inconvenience and we dont want to do that.

Hmm... I see.

I wonder how removing /macro and leaving in /ui action toolbar will stop looping? Unless they intend to make macros unable to be put into the toolbar at all?

I wonder what this "different method" is?

Anyway be encouraged that it's going to be addressed.... somehow.

Thanks Metis.

TH already did make a brief explanation of what they're going to do. I don't have the exact quote handy, but basically he said something about checking for infinite loops in a macro and also something about limiting the time of a macro. If you want to see exactly what he said, check the Dev tracker or something and go back to one of his final response threads to the topic of ending looping macros. My guess on this is that it may do things like cut off macros that call themselves, or start a timer that automatically issues a /dump if a running macro sequence doesn't come to an end on its own after a certain time. They are certainly not removing macros nor are they eliminating /uiaction commands. I do get the impression that we will still be able to have macros call macros, but that there will be some kind of limits on it. We shall have to wait and see what they actually implement. He also said, in another post, that the macro fix would likely not go in until after Publish 10 so we will have to wait a little longer to see it.

Well after a much needed break, and even a desperately needed nap, I tried again. I ran by the Theed cantina to find the majority of the people there still afk. I went to Coronet. Coronet was a blast in comparison. More people were ATK and I even enlightened someone "new" to the profession about the evilness of AFK people and what they have done to the profession. She honestly had no idea, because all she knew of entertaining was AFK groupmates. That is so sad.

But I have renewed my will, I am not going to let them win. And it also helps that publish 10 is coming soon heh But I've heard many people say the macro change will not be in the main publish. I just hope it's soon no matter what.

My biggestgripes as of late have been the afk people who feel they are entitled to just as much as an ATK entertainer, and well in some twisted sense of way they are right. They deserve the same benefits, but that doesn't mean they deserve my respect or the right to ruin the experience or prevent the experience of other players. That is my point and that is why I dislike them. They prevent others from the experience, and I'm not just talking XP, I'm talking about the entertainer experience. The cantinas are usually dead, full of afk spammers. In my past few days I've noticed the routine, in fact everyone now seems to dance by the doors, which is highly silly and crowded and makes it impossible for anyone to find you.. I dance in the main room, where on ahazi the buff bots have moved to. Even they have felt the pokes and prods of elbows and sliterhorns in their sides. I'm usually one of the only entertainers in the main room besides the bots... a few people stop to glance at me, but the majority that come in make a bee-line for the bots. I don't blame them, I can't buff them. But there is one thing buffbots are robbing the rest of us from. People who come for buffs usually have wounds, or battle fatigue after a long fight...they don't watch the rest of us, they watch the bot. Even when the bots tell them to watch the other entertainers. This is the first time in my 3rd time at Novice Dancer that I didn't have xp to learn both wounds and fatigue 1. In fact, I had to wait a few to learn fatigue 1 after getting novice. No wonder so many "almost masters" are in dire need of healing xp, no one watches us anymore if they don't have to. I think in the next few days I plan to hit the road, travel a bit. I know I'm not a master, but that was always one of my favorite things..visiting other cantinas and such.Maybe I can convince some of the weary warriors to let me heal their woundsbefore they get their buffs, I won't know tillI try heh. Even if the buff bots have taken over, as I'm sure they have I'm not going to let them bring me down anymore. That is of course after I have ignored them.. think I've about got them all now

Yeah. First time I mastered dancer with Drygo I got crazy healing experience and maxed that all out before I got all the dancing. This was a loooong time ago. Second time I mastered with C'erulean, I capped out on dancing exp (ya know, that extra 900K) before I even got 4 out of the 8 boxes of healing that I needed. But, what I always suggest to people who are dying for healing experience, because I'm still not too fond of the whole combat medic thing, is to go to dantooine, or dathomir, maybe even Yavin, depending on where all the combat people are at the time, and you usually can pick up more healing experience there. You won't be in a big group so your dancing xp will be slow, but that doesn't really matter considering you're gonna get the dancing way faster than the healing anyway, so it's not really a burden to have the slow dancing xp at this point. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on if there are buffbots in those cantinas as well. However, you can still generally pick up more healing sometimes in those outposts than you can in Theed and Coronet.

I had a friend of mine /tell me today, and said he was kinda pissed off because there were 3 master dancers in Coronet and none of them would buff him. So, of course, I said I'd be right over to buff him because that's what I do. And, when I got there, sure enough there were 3 master dancers, but they all three were afk and playing instruments. I explained to him that these Master dancers were not really entertainers. More than likely, these are still people either trying to unlock before publish 10 or making a buffbot. I really wish these buffbot and Jedi wannabes would drop that Master Dancer title because it is yet one more way that they are screwing us over. Luckily, this was my friend and he understood when I explained the situation to him. But, not everybody, as we all know, are as reasonable are aware (after I explained) as my friend is. And, all these combat players leave the Cantinas pissed off at entertainers because they think we ignore them for buffs. When, the reality is, these aren't the real entertainers. By simply wearing their master dancer titles, they are still causing an inordinate amount of damage to people's perceptions of us. It's extremely frustrating.

Firstly, the devs have given no details, or even hints as to what they will do with macros. The last message from TH was very vague and only hinted at a few possibilities. There are very many different approaches to take. People seem to like to pick the one they can complain the loudest about.

But on the topic at hand...

The other day I heard that there was a live group in Coronet. Now.... I never go to Coronet. It's so not what I like about entertainer. But I decided to give it a try.

Sure enough, there was someone there advocating a group of live entertainers and drawing people's attention to it. So I thought I'd give it a try. What I found was deception. In group chat, his message was "Go AFK if you wish, just don't show the tag". Okay, so it's a group claiming to be live that really isn't. Furthermore, if you needed to take a quick break, and you sat down and went AFK, you were more likely to be kicked from the group if needed than if you just left a macro running when you went AFK. So now not only is the group deceptive, it's also encouraging AFK play. I was called selfish for thinking that in a group that was being so heavily touted of being live entertainers, that sitting down when you go AFK is the preferred thing to do. It turned out to be just another grinding group. I don't have a problem with it being a grinding group so much... But the deception was not a good move.

I dropped dancer several months ago and like you, recently picked it back up. A couple of things are different for me this time around. One is that I have an alt character that is a pure fighter. With that character, I can go kill stuff and have a template geared toward fighting without compromising. Secondly, my dancer is also a master doctor. That means I have income not dependent on entertaining. That has been key to avoiding frustration.

Watching the Cantina Crawl videos drew me back to dancing. I missed it so much! So, I got myself situated in Theed cantina and started all over (minus the desert crawlers and red shoes). There was nearly always one full group and often a second group of people waiting to join the main group. There were tons of people AFK and there were several who were really there. Lots of times I relied on guild chat to keep me company (my main complaint against AFK'ers is that they leave us socialites with no one to talk to and goof off with). Just as often though, there were enough people with great personalities there to keep me amused and laughing.

So, what's different this time? I have credits so not being tipped doesn't frustrate me; I am dancing only because I love it. That is not a criticism to those who expect to be paid for their services. You have as much right to be paid as the fighter who expects a mission from the terminal to pay out (but realize that sometimes, they don't pay out either! ). The other thing that is different is my perspective. I didn't expect anyone to be ATK so I was pleasantly surprised when people were and I didn't expect customers to talk to me but they sometimes did (which is kinda sad on both counts, isn't it?). This time around, I knew that the best, all purpose dance is popular2 andonce I got to that level, the xp no longermattered to me so I didn't spend countlesshours in the cantina. I wasn't in a hurry to Master, though I managedto master in less than two weeks. When I dance now, this time around, I am dancing for myself primarily because it makes me happy to dance. That has made all the difference for me.
