I don't know if this even belongs on this forum, but it's something I believe is a threat to us all. I don't mean buffbots, or AFKers, or JTL.
I believe Jedi are the single biggest danger to this game.
In a week or so, the final Jedi publish will happen. This publish will make the path to Jedi more understandable and more rewarding. I expect to see many many more Jedi in the coming months, and I don't know about your server, but I already see Jedi everywhere. On my server, I'm more likely to run into a Jedi in the world than a master dancer.
Originally, the concept was to keep Jedi rare. That is obviously now tossed out the window. Jedi no longer suffer any form of permadeath, just exp loss (which for a Jedi is probably easily recouped). In PvP there is no competing with a Jedi, so I expect everyone who enjoys that part of the game to aim at getting a Jedi first and foremost.
I fear the world will become stratified into "Jedi" and "Those who are Not Jedi". And about half the population will be a Jedi. Or more, over time. The fact is, there are no downsides to being a Jedi, and pretty much no risk left. The only thing holding back the tide was the frustration involved with becoming one, and now that too is being removed.
The fact that Jedi are not rare is kind of a bummer all on its own. The fact that all other combat classes will become obsolete in the new order is also a bummer. You can be a master fencer, but in a world where Jedi are around every corner waiting to kill you, you have no chance and the only option left is to become a Jedi yourself to compete in PvP.
The worst part, though, is the Jedi's independance from the rest of the game world. They don't need crafters, they don't need entertainers, they don't need healing. They are apparently self sufficient, and in a game world that promotes and requires a player-driven economy, when half the population no longer needs the rest of the population for anything, that economy will suffer a collapse.
I see a black storm on the horizon bigger and far more worse than the hologrinding. What once was the most mysterious and cool profession of the game will become the norm and, in the process, destroy the game itself.
Why am I posting this? I'm kinda hoping someone here will say, "No, that's not the case and here's why." I'm sort of looking to my friends here to put my mind at ease. Please tell me I'm dead wrong.

Unfortunately I'll have to disappoint you once more and say that I agree with you almost completely. lol
Perhaps like the Light Speed add-on there will be an add-on sometime in the future.... Jedi World or something like that where all the Jedi can go engage in perpetual killing of each other only to be rezzed and throw themselves back into battle.
Maybe Pwned World would be a better name.
I AM looking forward with some glee to the creation of Jedi under the NEW system where they actually have to PLAY the game in order to achive the status and the resulting Class system among the Jedi. The ones that Played the game to become Jedi and the Macro Jedi who reached it by NOT playing the game for months. Be interesting to see the Social Dynamics between the two groups. hee hee

Since jedis can't do everything (they too need SP) but don't need armorsmith or weaponsmith or even tailorsI will be quite hard for some professions to exist.
I think entertainers have their space reserved just perfectly for them though. Cantinas will be like officers' mess for jedi armies and we will see a lot of neon waving luke skywalker wanabes... And I will still hunt them down whenever I can.
There will always be new players to heal and talk to and the jedis are people too and when the fight is over they like to hang out in cantinas doing strange noises and silly light shows (I think Jedis are the ultimate entertainer droid option).
Keep the faith. Some people WILL resist.
Talk later I got to do the force sensitivity quests on dant

Well, I say no swarm of Jedi can ever ruin the Hawt Gypsy's good time.
It's mostly only going to affect PvP I believe. We're already seeing "oh yeah, well, you just wait till my Jedi buddy gets here!!!" /rolleyes
That was kinda the point though, to make Jedi the PvP Elder Game Goal.
I think we'll function pretty much the same though, there will just be a lot more FS and Padawan around. Beyond that will still be rare up to a point. I just think it's going to be a shift in consciousness as far as immersion goes.
The massive independence and skill crossover Jedi are enjoying does make me nervous for the rest of us, but that can go one of two ways: they will be fixed to be less independent or we will all learn to be a Padawan. Either way, we should still be able to function mostly the same way, just with a minor (ok, maybe not so minor for some) shift in how we perceive "force sensitivity" in our game world.

So Jedi need entertainers still? They cannot heal their own BF or mind wounds? That'd be good.
I still think weaponsmiths should make lightsabers and tailors/armorsmiths should make jedi robes though.

Uh, no. They can heal their own BF... and other people's... and other people's mind wounds. They can do everything we can do but Buff and Dance.

So, that's kind of my point. Eliminating the dependance upon other professions is fine if Jedi are a very tiny minority, but that's not going to be the case.

I can't calm your fears, Javier, because I have the same ones. It's bad enough that they won't be rare anymore, but at least I could have dealt with that. What I don't like is that they are completely independent. As Panthu said, even for us entertainers, they've taken away our game mechanic usefulness.
It's too early to completely tell, I suppose. But, I have a very bad feeling that every one will be Jedi and there'd be no point in being anything else. As a TKM I've already felt the sting of being useless as a combat player in comparison to Jedi. And, I don't even mean trying to fight a Jedi. I'm talking about fighting *with* Jedi. I participated in a raid a few weeks back. There were some Jedi on our side. They cut a swath through all the troopers, all the ATST, in 10 seconds flat. Then they laid waste to the opposing force. I basically had the opportunity to...stand there. That's it. Seriously. Every time I tried to either go after an NPC trooper, or help fight the ATST or go after another PvP'er, I'd start running, and by the time I got within in range, it had been taken down by a Jedi. I was, completely and utterly useless. As a dancer, I will at some point become useless in this respect as well when everybody is or knows a Jedi. People are complaining about lack of entertainers now to heal their BF. That most assuredly will never be a proble because everyone will know a Jedi who can heal all BF at the click of a button. This affects every profession. And, it's going to get to a point, I'm afraid, where there is no other option but to become Jedi.
What a boring world that will be when everyone's wearing the same robe walking around like a Stepford Wife.
The only professions I think that will survive is some of the crafting ones that produce "luxury" goods. I mean, with force run people won't even need bikes. But, people will buy AV-21's for show. People will buy large houses and furniture. People may buy clothes if they don't feel like wearing the robe all the time. Entertainers will survive to put on shows for RP events, and to buff, providing buff bots are removed. Because, in a world where everyone is Jedi, people will still need that upperhand.
While I feel badly for the combat professions who will be hit hardest and are already starting to complain loudly, at least they can understand what it is to be useless now.

All of the hardcore PvP players have at least twocombatcharactersright now. An all melee defense stack type or CM hybrid of some type and a jedi. They almost always have a master doc/mind buff character of some type and a weapon/armour maker character as well. So basically this type of player was already self sufficient.
The other PvP players.. The ones with less acocunts are the ones that started getting jedi lately as it took them longer to get through the professions than 100% self sufficient type. These are the people that still rely on entertainers and docs for buffs because their alternate character is pure combat as well. Even when these people are jedi in the FRS they will still need us to buff minds. The only thing that would hurt entertainers a far as they are concerned is if the combat balance comes through and mind buffs because unneeded or the worthwhileness of them becomes not worth the downtime needed to get them.
There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel though for entertainers... New people are always coming into the game and veteren players are constantly recreating or moving servers so there will always be a place for us just not among those powergaming types (which in all honesty there never was.)

I agree.. I think that acheiving Jedi will actually weed out alot of "undesirable character types" that most dont enjoy interacting with anyway.. They will get thier Jedi, have thier fun and be done. There are alot of players thatreally doenjoy playing the other professions and will continue to do so. I know its still a way off, but I know of alot of players that are simply on "leave" to JTL comes out..they dont want to be Jedi.. they just want to fly!!

Heck, I thought Jedi where allready a major flaw in this patch.. in the movies it is made crystal clear there aren't many around, not in this timeframe anyway, and yet I see them frigging everywhere, and it's not going to get better, either.. only worse and worse and worse..
Jedi are a blight.. they're allowed simply cause so many people whined for them, réal Star Wars fans from day one are left in the cold entirely, and are now getting an icy shower to boot..
heck, since being FS allows ppl to become better at about every profession without actually being Jedi I expect 90% of the community to become at least FS.. I've heard ppl say they're going to get FS who I never would've thought would turn to the Force..
Sorry I couldn't lay your fears to rest cause it's exactly what's bugging me too, and propably the thing that can make me give up the game if it gets out of hand..

Doesn't that just blow?? What's incredibly annoying about that is Runesabre telling US that we can't buff ourselves because they want to "preserve interdependence."
The hypocrisy!!
