Thread: HIGH PRIORITY FOR SWG's SUCCESS REMOVE COMBAT FROM CANTINAS!

Well while I find the pet issue irritating at times I have to disagree in general. Cantina=bar there are going to be fights and frankly lately the only amusing thing to watch sometimes. I do think med center however should be a safe zone.

I expect there to be fight in the cantina and that does not bother me at all but as Kristania said I think there should be no fights in med centers. But I think that if people do want to fight in the cantina take it to an area where people are not dancing so people who don't want to be bothered by the fighting won't be bothered.

Giant pets and commando weapons drive me nuts whenI am trying to play a nice quiet entertainer.. All of the stupid screen shaking.. My ignore list is huge now from ignoring so many foul mouths.

Things have become out of control with immature players bringing the PVP faction war into town. Specifically, having them camp out in cantinas for mindless foul mouth spamming, oversized pets and explosions totally destorying the cantina setting. I am sick to death of hearing any player say, "Well don't do faction missions or go Overt if you don't like PVP", because this behavior I just described has now ruined the experience of SWG for NON-PVP players as well. I'm sure I could write volumes on this topic, but as wide spread a problem as it is, I'll spare everyone since I have confidence you have all had your fill of this as well. I would also save my fingers from this post if SWG wasonly financially oriented toward initial purchases of SWG licenses (like a few other games out there), but this is a "subscription" based product/service developed in the spirit and visiion of George Lucas' desire in extending the Star Wars experience beyond the silver screen. To preserve that subscription base, this issue needs to become an immediate priority!

Let's propose ideas here to help the dev's get this fixed before the massSUBSCRIPTION based audience of mature "Star Wars" loving players gets run off by the immature teens who will NOT be long term as they roam from hot game to hot game every couple of months. Since we know that not all the morons have started at the same time withSWG, they will continue to replace each other with new morons who buy it in the future and bring us all endless grief unless programming controls are tightened to limit their exploitation of the experience for the rest of the population, which I hope is to be the majority of us.

Simple Idea: Restrict ALL combat from inside certain structures and locations (Cantinas, Starports, even Camps would be great!)

DetailedIdea: Safe house "poachers" also need to be reeled in! I suggest that if someone engages in "PVP" combat (preferably if it can be determined who initiates it), they are restricted from entering ANY structure for a specified time (say 15to 30 mins)to keep them out of Cantinas and Starports as well as their little SAFE houses. This way the non-combat (non-pvp) community can get some peace and enjoy their experience, AND the player who initiates PVP has to stay on the field for the fight and can't just shoot and hide in a house.

Complex Idea: Fix the TEF system! It is complex, and it probably took a long time to develop, but it is now fully exploited by these idiots.

What ideas do you have on how to fix this problem so we can enjoy a more enriching experience here?

Honestly sometimes I enjoy the fights in the cantinas. They give the place a bit of saloon ambiance.

But without the creatures!!!! Here I agree 100%.

There is no room in cantinas for the big creatures. They are only bothering and annoying.

On the other hand, making the cantinas to battle free zones would be used as griefing tool instantaneous.

See Anchorhead. The common tactic would be: out of the door, shoot, desease, in the taverna, healing, out of the door.... .

The Imperials would burstrun in the taverna, where they can sample in all calmness for the next fight. Same in Bestine. The small cantina at the outskirts would be ideal for this tactic too.

What is needed is probably not programming control. What is needed to make this feel like a real imperial city ( or rebel stronghold ) is police. At the moment, no one patrols the streets in force, ragtag bands of people in different outfits fight a pirate gang game of plundering and pillaging. Where is the Empire ? Where are the stormtroopers patroling the streets ? Why is the patrol just looking when people shoot each other in public places ? Is there a law ? No, at the moment, it feels like a pirate tortuga clone with lasers.

The devs need to put the oppressive police state called 'The Galactic Empire' into whatthey call the galactic civil war. We need police. We need order. We need uniforms. Or else we will have outlaw gangs fighting each other in the absence of law, which is what you see today.

"Honestly sometimes I enjoy the fights in the cantinas. They give the place a bit of saloon ambiance."

I disagree. There WOULD be a saloon ambiance if the PvPers didn't act like petulant (and particularly immature) children. As it is, it's like watching 8 year-olds play army. It's hardly conducive to SWG roleplaying.

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

I agree in principle. But on Corellia that would be CorSec. Until players can work for Corsec (and other minorfactions) this won't be a viable option. Besides,a police presencemight actuallyincrease the likelihood of fights in the cantina, since the police wouldhave to ally with members of one faction or the other.

We need to outlaw droids and animals from the cantinas, and I think the best way (at present) to do this is by a programming control.

So if you ban combat in public cantinas, how are you going to stop exploiters from using them as a "safe house" to retreat and heal, then return to a battle? The Devs just got done fixing this exploit with private homes, but I'm not sure their fix will work for public cantinas. This is really just an open invitation to more exploitation and another programming headache for SOE.

As for pets, I want to say "ban them", but on the other hand I have a crystal snake pet that I use in my act -- it's not tall or intrusive, is this going to force another limit on what dancers can do in our quest to be slightly original? (CH changes already preclude me from summoning it in many locations)

I've told the story here before, but one of the best RP exhibitions I ever saw was between a rebel player and an Imperial player. The Imperial player sounded very official, pronouncing sentence on the Rebel as they exchanged fire in the cantina. And after the Rebel was incapped, the Imperial informed the rest of us that we should all "report to headquarters immediately" or be placed on the wanted list. It was so convincing I wanted to believe her Not all of the PvPers are immature jerks, but it only takes a few to ruin the experience.

If you have such a problem with it, maybe you should try the hotel or theatre. No one ever goes in there. You'll be safe from all fights and not have to worry about a thing.

But let me still dream a bit.

I would just like to see pets that would not realistically *fit* in the cantina be disallowed from either entering or being spawned there.
