Don't pay attention to the numbers. Poplock is way better than anything an entertainer can do IMO.

Umm.. if your really 0,0,4,4 and still using popular then thats part of your problem there. You need to use your best dance to get the most exp and Popular sure isn't it. If your just using popular then your only going to get marginally better exp then you would at novice. Try using exotic 1,2, and your exp should increase to about 36-42 per pulse solo. Forget where in there it is, been a while since I last did either of those dances solo. Hope that helps.

Perhaps it has to do with how frequently you flourish?

I was curious about what the optimal flourish rate was for dancing, so I set up a spreadsheet to look into it. My goal was to optimize experience per action point cost. Ionly considered dancing solo, i.e. noexperience modifiers from grouping. Unfortunately I'm at work so I'm working from memory, but for basic you get something like:

TIC Experience Action Exp/Action

1. 4 39 0.103

2.8

I think they were comparing novice dancer with 0-0-4-4 entertainer.

But yes, it's better in that it leads to better things. You also, I believe, begin to be able to start buffing the mind at novice (but I'm not sure).

Grr, let's try again:

My table:

Tic/Experience/Action/Ratio

1/4/37/0.108

2/7/61/0.115

3/9/85/0.106

4/10/109/0.092

Tic refers to the time period in which you burn action and get an experience reward. The experience and action numbersare the total since the flourish (assuming baseline action cost of 24 for basic with a flourish action cost of 13). The ratio is the number of experience points earned per action point spent.

Of course, action costs are different from person to person because of different secondary action statistics, so your results may vary. Running an analysis on all of my dances, I observed:

Higher-level dances give better experience per action cost.

The optimal numberamount of time betweenflourishes appears to increase in higher dances - for my dancer doing Poplock2, the optimal number of tics between flourishes is 5, compared to 4 for popular2 and 2 for basic.

Of course, this analysis isn't perfect because I've excluded the effects of grouping and I haven't considered the effect of having frequent healing available.

I thought this stood for the levels you have gained, but I could be wrong.

In my case I would be 0,3,4,4 or ID level 0, Musician level 3, dancer level 4 (if novice is 5 then i'm 5), and Entertainment healing 4.

I believe it stands for the 4 parts of the tree in question. So for example, 0-0-4-4 for entertainer, if you look at the entertainer profession in you skills window, would indicate 0 in ID, 0 in musician, 4 in dance and 4 in healing. Just go right across the board there.

At least I'm pretty sure that's what it means.

Ahh, okay I see what you mean. I don't recall off hand the exact increase in exp per flourish going from 0,0,4,4 entertainer to novice dancer but it may be pretty small. I think you notice a larger jump with the boxes filled after that but it never goes up a lot if your dancing solo. I think at best you might get about 42 exp per flourish solo. But in a group that 42 can quickly turn into 130 or so depending on size. You definately notice a larger increase in a group with dances then you do solo. Going from dance A to dance B solo may only give 2 exp a flourish more but could easily give you 15-20 more exp per flourish in a group.

The increase in XP you get in going up levels (using your best dance) is very small compared to the increase you get when performing in a large group compared to dancing solo.

Not even close.

You get +10 Mind Enhancement as a Novice. So, yeah, you have a small buff. People won't notice the 5% increase, really.

But if the test server changes stay, then I guess it'll be a 10% increase.

Is novice dancer better than 0-0-4-4 Entertainer? If you are going to advance in Dancing, then yes. If not, then you can probably stick with 0-0-4-4. You also get a Novice Dancer title if you like that.
