Thread: Solution to Entertainer Woes
I would, however, LOVE to see specailized buffs for each dance/song. For example, Tumble could give and movement/evasion bonus buff, and lyrical a defense bonus buff. It would make mastering the Dance Knowledge tree much more useful and dances would be more than just eye candy![]()

I have not yet posted this as a proposal, as I am not sure how it would go over...
lets say...we had a system somewhat like the following:
- 30 SP Crafting
- 30 SP Combat
- 30 SP Entertainment
- *medic counts as combat, as does scout*
- then, 220 SP generic
anyone could take up SOME entertainer, SOME crafter...but once u spent the 30 points everyone was alloted, then it would transfer over into the 220 generic. the principle was that we could all do a bit of everything and be a bit more diverse, yet at the SAME time we would not be overpowered, as 250 would still be the max we could sink into one type.
that is teh principle of my thoughts, obviously, the 30/30/30/220 are just numbers i randomly thought up right now and if proposed, would almost undoubtably change

Now THIS is a fantastic idea. I love this idea... people could come in and ask for the specific buff they want, and you would switch to the appropriate dance. As an added bonus, it makes buffbotting EXTREMELY difficult to do... the only viable way would be to have a macro that cycles through them all, which would take a long time... a live performer could then easily out-compete an AFK bot, because you could immediately do the dance the patron wants, and he wouldn't have to wait for the buffbot to get back around to rhythmic2 or whatever.
I love it. Nice idea.

At the time, most were against this proposal because the last thing we wanted to do was end up like bard from everquest. It really was a full time job(I tried it for a bit) and while I enjoyed the concept, I ended up with my hands so full I never got to chat and be social. Which felt kind of counter to the idea of the class.
Now, I know things have changed a lot since then, and so have the people who are dancing now. And, if that is where they want to take it, it is a neat idea. I just know we were all mostly against it long ago and wanted more social content than combat content.
Anyway, just giving some perspective on the idea

I have to say I'm 100% against the idea of attaching specific enhancements to certain dances for the very same reason I was opposed to the idea proposed by the Devs (I think it was the devs) that would have had the patron ask for a particular flourish in order to get a mind buff. I have certain dances and flourishes that I like and certain ones that I wouldn't do if a Storm Trooper held a blaster to my head. There's also the possibility that patron A is getting the reflex enhancement from my dancing lyrical and now patron B wants some other enhancement and doesn't want to wait. (we all remember those days right?) So now we have disgruntled patron B who has to go elsewhere and low and behold wehave the "I need my Alt dancer/musician" world again.
There are all kinds of ways to end AFK play without putting more controlof the entertainers into the hands of non-entertainers. As it stands now we already completely rely upon patrons for our ability to participate in the economy and any sort of loot. We're not slaves (well except for a few people out there who roleplay that status) and it's high time we got to participate in more than just the cantina environment.
GCW participants have the possibility of being discovered by a routine scan. Let's add in the possibility of AFKers being discovered when they fail to respond to a request from bartenders, troopers, NPC's, etc... Let the unattended discover they spent the last 10 hours in the cloner rather than getting xp and I suspect you'll see fewer people trying it.
Dance specific buffs do not take away controll from the dancer. You decide what dances you want to do, and what buffs you want give and market yourself accordingling by saying, "I only give x,x, and y buffs." I don't shun any of the dances, as I find that the patrons are paying more attention to what your saying and emoting than to what dance your doing, but that is just my personal experience.
Now as for a patron being disgrunteled if they do not recieve a buff quick enough, there is a simple solution. Socalizeing. If you carry out a pleasent conversation with everyone in the room, not just the person your buffing, your patrons will not see their time at the cantina as "waiting for a buff" but instead having an enjoyable, relaxing time at the cantina.![]()

At any given time there are a small handful of live entertainers on my server. We would each have to be willing to do all the dances or we will end up with bots (we have them all over the place as it is). The patrons may be paying more attention to my conversations but I'm not. For me it's a performance that I enjoy crafting. It's why I'll boot anyone who's running a bandflo that makes us do that hideous jiggle during the exotics. It's why I didn't always dance the "highest xp" dance while I was making my way to Master Dancer. I put a lot of effort into choosing the dancesI want to do and when I do them. That's what was great about the days of the mind buffs. I could do any dance I wanted and I could arrange the flourishes to make even the "speed buff" look good. All I can say about your last point is that Eclipse must be very, very different.

The solution to many of our woes would be resolved simply by people dropping offline within 5 minutes if not using keyboard commands as well as macros. That way we can use macros to save us carpal tunnel and can still create perfectly timed dance sequences etc, but it gets rid of the afk bots at the same time.
