I'm new to dancer and was dancing in the mining op on dant last night. I was looking at my screen and all of a sudden "You receive 568 points of entertainer healing experience" flashed across my screen. Up until that point the most I had ever gotten was 80. I was kind of surprised so I took a screenie.

it happens when various wounded people start to watch / listen anyone in your group. Mostly because of serverlag, total sum of entertainer xp is given at once.

Ya that's not uncommon, but ya for a newbie it would be a bit of a shock, their have been times where I've gotten a lag push of xp and it came into the 1000's.

Yeah. I always loved those 1000+ point healing XP spikes. I just wished they would happen more often. I was never sure what caused them, but was always happy to see it.

So, I unfortunately have confused myself about a couple of the issues with this bug (non-JTL information here, I don't know what all that's referring to
), and I don't want to put up wrong information, so I won't try to put in the details... But, I'm fairly sure that the way the mechanics work, these spikes of healing xp that you're getting are actually xp you've been earning for a while without getting. In other words, it's not extra xp, but xp you should have been getting but haven't yet.
If I remember the details, I'll repost.

Heya Kilon... how's things? Didn't know you were trying out some dancing... what do you think so far?
Those XP spikes are a long known issue. Once when I was leveling, I had one that was 5103, if memory serves. What seems to be happening with theseis that the system is tracking healing XP coming in, but not sending system messages per tick as it's being earned. We have no idea... since we don't know if someone with BF or mind woundsis watching, and sincelong dry spells of healing XP is common enough, it all seems like it's just another one of those dry spells. Then, something causes the system to 'wake up' of sorts, and it awards all the XP that had been coming in at once.
It's probably related to the various /stopwatch bugs and issues. If someone types /stopwatch rather than using the radial menu, it appears that sometimes it can trigger the 'freezing' of the XP gains (which is really just lovely - pre publish 9, it was the radial commands that would bug us). Or... was it when someone just runs out of range withoutusing the radial or the command? Urgh... been awhile since I've paid that much attention to XP issues. And again, if memory serves, if you stop performing while in one of these frozen states, all that accruing healing XP will just be lost. Something, and I'm not certain on exactly what it could be,triggers the spikes to award. The only thing that seems pretty certain is that it's not anything we can do... it has something to do with what the audience does. It's all pretty uncertain, as it's very difficult to test when we're not really sure how to reproduce it reliably for study.
Nice though when it feels like some kind of huge bonus, isn't it?

Ooh, I think I figured out what I was confused about.
So here's my "everything I know about the entertainer healing xp spike bug, that I learned over time from reading the forums, and mostly from Tiaga" post
.
Background info:
When entertaining, you 'entertain' yourself. Meaning if you're a dancer, you're watching yourself, and if you're a musician, you're listening to yourself. This is a game mechanic that as far as I can tell is there so that we can heal our own mind wounds and BF.
What triggers the bug, and what the bug really is:
When the last person (not including yourself) who is watching you does a /stopwatch command (pretty sure it doesn't happen if they stop watching through the radial or from moving far away), you stop watching yourself as well. This also happens with musicians with the /stoplisten command, but we got a workaround where we automatically start listening to ourselves within a few seconds if we've stopped listening to ourselves (if you ever notice the music stop and then restart from the intro riff, this is what's happening). The dancers do *not* have code to start re-watching themselves, which leads to the next question.
What makes me get the spike in xp?
Apparently, you can only receive entertainer healing xp while you're being watched or listened to. Which means that for however long it's been since someone did a /stopwatch, you will not be getting any of the xp (though you probably don't notice because you could just assume that no one's being healed at the moment). However, you could still be 'earning' xp through your group members, in that while they are being watched or listened to, you still are being assigned your share of the healing xp, you're just not getting it. This xp builds up over time, until finally someone starts watching you (specifically you, not someone in your group), and you actually get all the xp that you've been earning and that has been building up. This is the xp spike.
Um, so yeah, that's basically all I have. I think you can possibly un-bug yourself by doing a /watch self, or just ask someone to watch you. There are others that have more knowledge about this than I, I'm just good at gathering and remembering information

Is one of the MMORPG playstyles "information-gatherer"?
I think this fits me well, or at least in terms of the stuff I'm interested in. When I started reading the ent forums, I marked everything as having been read, went through the stickies, and have read essentially every new post since. All you people have lots of information for me... "iiiiinput!" (name the movie).
But it's different from the achiever playstyle, cause I don't use this information to do things as quickly as possible in the game. That'd make it less fun to me, as I wouldn't be enjoying the journey. Hmm, I'll have to go websearching and take that questionaire and see where I lie these days.

I ran into this one earlier. I only needed about 1800 healing XP to remaster dancer and knowing that someone in my group was on the receving end of a quick-heal spam for the wounds, my XP stopped rolling in. I sat there for about 30 minutes watching this....no healing XP, and only needing that little bit. All of a sudden, I got a spike of about 4000 healing XP, my Fatigue 4 box done and all was good.
Though I was getting tired of tapping my screen and was about to get a hammer to do it. Hehe
