...in my hand a key, before me a box, and I am the only one who can open it.

I have discovered a frightful secret, one that will allow here before unheard of levels of interactivity with bots, so frightful I don't even know if I should release it for the harm it could cause.

Until now, bots have been relatively limited in form and function. They could be started up to do one function, but in order to switch functions it required somebody ATK to change thier configuration. There is no way to simply send them a tell and have them switch modes on the fly...

Until now...

I have discovered a way to setup a bot that would allow it to recieve tells or group messages, and convert those tells into workable commands, using entirely in-game mechanics, no 3rd party apps required. It could work in a number of modes, only accept commands from a select list, or accept from all, accept only specific preset commands or accept any workable / command. Bots can now be made to change modes on the fly with a simple tell from its owner or any on a list, or be allowed to run specific allowed commands given by anybody.

What happens if I open this box?

Just publish it. Things can't get any worse for us... maybe the appearance of "on demand" bots will finally wake SOE from their ridiculous slumber on unattended gameplay so they will actually DO something not just give us platitudes about how they never intended it to happen.

Open the box. Let it out. Maybe the more common this becomes, the quicker something will be done to fix the problem.

I don't know.

I see your plight.

HAVE we reached the bottom? Are things so completely hopeless in the current system that we should risk throwing everything out to force improvement? Change has been promised.. Will we actually see it, and will it be meaningful change?

People already have 24/7 access to either free or practically free 100% doctor and ent buffs, usually with max bonuses. So the bot starts reacting to /tells, does anything change from SOE's point of view? I don't know if it would even do anything.

I see how it has great potential for wreaking havoc upon the populace, a true Pandora's Box, hope included. It would greatly hasten the arrival of Sirii's "world of unattended buffers," and that world is ugly, and I can see how that situation would turn people against bots. I don't know that it would turn them back to live ents, though.. it would probably just make them demand that the skills be given to doctors.

The one thing we have to remember -- even after macro changes there are people who will sit there ATK and run a buffbot macro. They are going to be just as damaging and harmful as the AFK ones, if not more so. If you give THEM tools that won't be affected by macro changes we might all regret it. I know we'll have to use peer pressure on them post changes to get them to stop being jerks, but it will be hard. Will this make it even harder?

I don't know either....

They won't fix AFK until it starts to disrupt the game play of the majority and it makes a large impact on the economy.

Well buff bots are the minor reciepents of any benefit from my system. My system would open the door for PC "pets". People could leave toons AFK for thier friends to come and use as they need, and while thier friends aren't using them they could be parked in a house waiting, or put around bases for base defense. These bots with no interaction on the end of the computer could be made to follow someone to a cantina and recieve a buff from another bot, then taken out and buffed by a doctor, they could be made to eat and drink any foods that the owner had prepared ahead of time on its toolbar. They could be a multitude of templates and the user could send tells and remotely make them switch between professions and equipment, make them change out PSG's. Heck you could even do cross server bot swaps, where you grind out a character on somebody elses server and they grind one on yours, then when you're not online you log on your bot on the other server, and the other person does the same, and you or your friends can use this other persons bot until they need to log on thier main, all you gotta do is give them the gear to equip with. Gotta go to school? Setup your character as a combat bot for your friends to use. Wanna PvE with a friends brawler toon? Setup a macro that taunts a few times every now and then and add them to the attacks, so the bot takes the damage. Wanna travel with your bot? Well if you're both JTL enabled, YOU CAN!!! drag the bot to the starport and use the travel feature.

To be honest it takes a bit of setup to get my system running, but once you do its 100% internally scripted in game, I even have a test bot up and running the command macro, if you'd like leave your name and server and I'll have my bot send you a tell by sending it a tell commanding it to send you a tell, heck I'll even add you to its command list so you can creep people out too

"Combat-assist tells you, hi this is eaca's combat bot, I'm relaying this message to you, she did not touch the computer I'm running on to send this to you, mearly sent me a tell, reply to her on flurry, she won't see if you reply to me'.

This is scary stuff I tell ya

SOE is ok with it. By everything we have seen SOE is fine and accepting of bots in this game so long as it doesn't use 3rd party macros. We have words from some that say they don't like it. But at the same time they won't do anything about it. It's time SWG live up to it's full glory as SWG: An Empire AFK

Once this box is open. The ball is fully and completely in SOE's hands to do something about. If they care about the game at all they WILL then do something.

All in favour

Report: Early Tests Prove Viable

I did a bit of testing tonight on one of Eaca's creations. I was able to take control of this bot (after being assigned to it's "admin list"), and have it do a variety of simple commands in early tests.

I started with simple commands to test his motor skills. After having him /stand, I commanded my Zombie Slave to /follow me wherever I went. I then told him to /say to me Yeeeesssss, Misssstreesssss... which he obediently carried out.

Lag in Eisley however was bad, so after having my Zombie Slave /join my group, we went to launch into space aboard my personal yacht, the luxury liner Lekku Envy. Unfortunately, a few moments after launch, Zombie Slave went LD... no more fun testing this night.

More reports as they come in. Hopefully with screenies.

Does the slave have the "pwn" macros?

Hey! Now every fat mon cal out there that can't find a dance partner can make one of their own! NOT FAIR!

*shivers*

Our cantinas could be overrun by even uglier bots.....But still, let it out of the box, Eaca. I'd like to toy with this a bit. I have a squad leader friend that could really provide some GREAT combat bonuses!

If you can't beat'em.....

two words:

Open it.

Why?

Because SOE and combatants need an eyeopener. They have to act, and they have to understand.

As of now, they do not act and they do not understand.

Thwy changed their rules from "Macros and" to "3rd party" when it came to unattended gameplay. After pressure from players, they changed it. We questioned why it was in the rules, when they did not enforce the rules to what was written.

SOE changed the rules. They gave us the key to Pandoras box, and alowed us to open it. It's time we did.

I have to agree with everyone else.
Yes please, open the Pandora Box.

Not because I want to see the game ruined even more but because I believe it’s the only way our combat counterparts will ever understand how we feel and what their selfish greed has done to us. I think once the proverbial shoe is on their foot they will finally start to see what we have been trying to tell them forever.

As for SOE doing anything, well I’m afraid it would take a Jedi BoT and BH BoT running all over the galaxies doing their jobs AFK.
But if you can also do that I’m willing to bet my last credit we would see a hotfix within 15 minutes.
