Thread: So why are you all dancers?

This came up tangentially on another thread (which has since degenerated into a flame war so I won't post its address here -- it's no longer worth reading). But there I mentioned my estimate that "entertainers are in large measure people who like to socialize and/or RP." I was told this is not true by someone who is not, I think, an entertainer, but in any case I thought I would solicit reasons from you all.

So, why are you all dancers?

I will start. My reasons are:

1. I'm a roleplayer and I was told (correctly) by a beta tester that entertainer types are the most RP-oriented class.

2. On the bartle scale ( take the test here) I am SEA... Socializer first (WAY first, 93%), Explorer second (66%), Achiever third (23%). Entertainer seemed like a social profession, and their venue is a social venue -- the cantina. Seemed like a good choice for a Socializer.

3. I am on a 56K and thought a combat profession would be too hard due to lag, which meant I was looking for a primarily non-combat profession. Of those dancers just seemed like the most fun.

Within entertainment, I just like dancing better than music, and I really can't tell you why exactly... Maybe it's because it looks so cute when my toon does the various moves... I really like the motion-cap'ed animations.

So, that's why I started out entertaining and eventually focused on dancing.

What about the rest of you?

C

Well according to that test, I was a mix of social/explorer with a bit of killer.. However I think the killer rating is an artifact of the questions the test asks.. I knew it would say that and I knew it wouldn'tmean it. For example, I said I'd rather be an assassin than a scholar.... But my reason was that there are so many interesting things to RP with an assassin.

Why did I choose to be a dancer? To be honest, I couldn't answer that. I like dancing though.

#1 I basically use this type game as a chatroom with something to do lol. Dont much like regular chatrooms as they are usually all about one thing. Other online game i play there is nothing much to do besides fighting so chatting kind of hard most of the time. As a dancer I can hit flourishes inbetween talking. I do still mess up in the /r a lot tho as sometimes while typing another person messages me and ends up getting mt lol.

I also have 56k connection so fighting difficult for me. I do like exploring tho as I find the graphics beautiful.

I have the right to remain silent...but not the ability
Sashalanda and Myki ingame characters..both just chatter since NGE.Shop location Tatooine Bestine 600m away at -1626 -3068

hehehe I score 100% Social-- that was a very cool test

I just love it..I really can't explain WHY dancing is so much fun..it just IS. BTW I am not a musician as well...

I love healing peeps fast and getting them back into the action. I am sovastly complimented that many stay long after they are healed to watch me dance.

Hehe, I loved that test -- I"m a socializer/killer -- lol, fits me perfectly I suppose.

Why I became a dancer, hmmm. I love to entertain, always have, and when I first made a character -- I went ahead and made her dance once. I was hooked. She was deleted ((was made to be a bounty)) and here came Boci. I extremely enjoy role play, and thought that this could be a fun oppurtunity.

I see on a lot of entertainers bios that they want to be known accross the galaxy, but then sit in their own cantina. That wasn't even one of my goals, but this lil fish is pretty well known around Tarq. I travel constantly, I can hardly sit still -- especially since I hit master. I love to entertain and heal. I love the fact that I know someone everywhere, and that I can get whatever I need anytime.

I don't know, hehe, I have loved the power I get from being a dancer, even a mon cal dancer. Every now and then I'll get a response about being icky as a fish, but that happens only about once every two weeks -- everyone else is excited to see me, and like I said many people know me. It's fun to walk in somewhere and hear cheers not only from the other entertainers, but from the customers.

Boci isa tender soul who doesn't believe in violence, however times being as they are, and by the faction that she has chosen, it was sensible for her to learn to shoot -- however she is strictly healer -- master dancer/medic -- so when she's not ina cantina, she's with her PA or another group, healing away, every way possible

Anyway, I've rambled too long --sorry lol

SEA, as well.

Socializer 80%
Explorer 73%
Achiever 33%
Killer 13%

This is funny, since I'm a dancer who's also a sniper (in training)... it's in her personna to be sneaky and take out an enemy from a distance. It just makes more sense to her...but then again, Swann has a slight sociopathic streak. But only slight...she's a rather complicated character.
In any case, the concept was a dancer who got tangled up with questionable professions, and started smuggling, then owning a cantina (this was back in beta before they changed the smuggler profession to just combat branches). I modified it to a dancer who just happened to be a good shot as well, and is leading a double life, but who really just wants to get her bloody cantina....

In other words, it's purely a character thing. Which is why you'll rarely see me simply grinding away to get xp, as the xp is secondary to me, it's the playing of the character...and why I tend to sneak in, tip all the non-AFK dancers, and then go back out to do more rifle missions.

"Having an enourmously overblown sense of one's capabilities is NOT a super power. Having such an overblown sense of pride or self preservation that one actually manages to PULL OFF actions equal to one's overblown sense of one's capabilities is closer, but still doesn't count as a super power." -Madame Parker

I did it purely because I thought I could dance for people out in the field. I don't roleplay, I'm not a socializer. I love the way it looks but I'm a recluse. As of now, if you are an entertainer you are forced to be a certain type of entertainer. Blah blah you can roleplay whatever you want but the game doesn't support entertainers unless they are like you. And that's where my problem lies, the fact that I have to be just like all of you to get anywhere as an entertainer (sit in a cantina and dance all day long). There's no other way to get the points I need. I want to be a reclusive dancer and dance only for a certain set of people and I want to do it out in the field. You don't have to be a roleplayer to be a good entertainer but that certainly seems to be the attitude with a lot of the posters here. Please keep in mind that your playing style isn't the only playing style.

I'm ESA. I play mostly to chat with others in the cantina. Heck, now that I got Master Dancer I don't even dance there anymore, 'cos no-one seems to give a **edit** aboutgetting fastmind healsanyway.

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

I am a dancer because I love the social aspects of it. Recently I have become horribly annoyed by the way I get treated in the cantina. It seems as though more and more people are becoming disrespectful.

I am working my way up the tailor tree now but I still dance when I can, especially when I need a break.

I was thinking that since so many master tailors are popping up everywhere, I may become a traveling tailor. I'll dane in cantinas all over the galazy with my tailor tag on and see if I can get customers so I can do my two favorite things at once.

Sometimes I stand outside my house when I am taking a 5 minute break and tehre are always lairs out there. If I notice that someone has bad mind wounds, I lure them to my lair and heal them for them. hehe, It's nice to have one on one conversations and find out about people with out being harassed in the cantinas.

No matter what, I will never give up master dancer. I love it.

I have met so many wonderful people from my dancing grinding days. and it always makes me feel good when they give me a /tell asking if I am dancing anywhere

I became a dancer purely out of nessesity, but soon found I enjoyed it, so I decided that it will be my cover profession.I took the test and got 80% explorer, 53% achiever, 33% on social and killer.Do I agree with these results, yes to an extent. I do enjoy exploring and achieving things yes, but at the same time, killing things are sooooooooo much fun. I believe that a method and execution make for a prolific killer or assasin. Yes having the really nice weapon is good, but at the same time I don't feel the need to run around screaming "look at what I got!!!!!!" I also enjoy talking to my friends, but I'd rather be at camp talking while we rest before we go off killing again than in a bar or cantina. I basically kill for experience, if I do decide to kill for any other reason is because 1.I'm being paid to do so, 2. that individual did something that went outside my moral code (which is very loose), and 3. you just plain crossed me. Right now, i am dancing to gain experience and at the same time, gain any informationthat is helpful to me. What better way to get info than by talking to a weary fighter while you soothe his/her wounds, but I admit entertaining them is fun as well. I'musing dancing to gain certain things ( you wouldn't think a exotic dancer coulddrop someone at a whim, so it makes a great cover ), but I will always be a killer at heart, and once I gain all the skills that I feel I need, the whole galaxy willbe my playground to exlpore, achieve, socialize, and kill.

I find your lack of faith disturbing

Personally I'm a dancer for RP reasons. Role Playing in the StarWars universe is why I got this game; I've always wanted a StarWars MMORPG so that I could Roleplay in it and, like most said, I felt that entertainer was an ideal profession for Roleplaying so I chose it.
