Thread: Dancer gender?
Hey all. I was not in beta so I only have a few hours experience. I've been playing a male dancer, just because I think it's fun. Anyone in beta, How does the average player respond to male dancers?
Well, I was not in Beta either, but as a woman, I can say that most of my characters will prefer to watch a male dancer for their entertainment rather than a female one. There are exceptions, depending upon my character's 'preferences' (I have played lesbian toons before for fun...hehe).
Generally, I expect most of us girls out there will be happy to find the male dancers when we can...and I for one plan to tip them well to encourage them to continue in the profession. ![]()

Yeah I figured the females would like the idea. Also I think it would be pretty cool for a good mixed gender troupe so that the entire cantina could be played to.
I think the right clothing can make a big difference as far as the perception of the dancers 'preference' as well. It'll be fun to work it tho ![]()
I've started a male dancer as well, but after checking out some of the tailoring lines it appears that there are many more costumes that women dancers would have access to that men wouldn't... unless they wanted to wear steel bras.
There is ONE flourish in particular where the male does a circle and shakes his chest which I think is totally rediculous, but the rest don't look unnatural as far as male dancers go.
I think I'm going to stick it out, but we need to raise a stink and get some nice costumes for the guys in here... ladies have needs to! ![]()
Been in beta 8 months and Dancer the entire Beta 3. My experience is that 75% of the dancers are female characters. Chatting with male characters and they say they have two BIG complaints about dancing as a profession in SWG.
First is that many of the flourishes are very VERY femine (especially the Lyrical and Exotic line) and you can't ignore them since flourishes are what give you Dance XP.
Second, they seldom get tips. Not saying they don't get any ... but I play a female dancer and for every 5 tips I get, the male dancer *might* get one. Human nature I guess since most players are male and tend to gravitate to the female toons. Plus, there are some exotic / sexy costumes made for female dancers that really get the tips flowng ![]()
Form the dancers I talked to in beta while I played for them, they say that poplock looks better on a male. I couldn't really tell, due to the only dancer I could usually see was Mortimar McGee! (Inside Bria Tyrena joke)
When you get to Formal you might want to get a set of tights made! ![]()
Well I'm playing a male dancer also. I'm currently working on the 50k for novice dancer and really don't have any concerns about the profession so far.
Some of the dances look better for men and some better for women. I think popular is great when it's a man doing it. Also the flourish in basic when you drop to your knees and stand up with your arm in the air with a bit of a swagger at the end, looks great on men. I've just gotten formal so I should warn you that the flourishes are identical to female flourishes and you have to be very confident in your sexuality to cope with the comments from the crowd.
At the end of the day, your'e playing a male dancer and if you think that some of the moves look too "feminine" then you haven't seen much RL professional dance, or indeed know any professional RL male dancers =D Don't let it distract you from having fun though. Just have some bitchy comeback lines in the back of your head and keep on dancing.
I'm still in my brawler pants (hmm gold and yellow, we like) and naked male "vest" top but I think the difficulty finding clothes may be due to the lack of tailors and casual outfits on the bazaar.
Taji Leokov, Bestine, Starsider.
Hmm...male dancers.
I had actuelly given dancing a thought, but frankly I'm a bit shy. That, combined with the fact that, as an above poster stated, not only do some dances just look better on women, some look WRONG on men, sort of turned me off to it. I was thinking of picking up muscianship, but I had no idea there was an honest /need/ for male dancers....
I may yet give it a try. Course I'll have to buy better clothes...dusty bone armor and muscle shirts only gets you so far.
THe Cantina im at there ar often some male wookiee dancers. There is a guy who really looks like an overweight black elvis as well.
THere is a going to have to be alot more male dancers if they want to master entertainer.
I myslef would rather watch a female twi'lek dance to thats what i have.
