Thread: Dancer gender?
I am playing amale dancer as well. Of the regular customers I have...
A female Zabrak. She likes to watch and tease me. I have yet to dance well enough to earn a tip from her, but I will keep trying.
Several that come in and call me gay. *yawn* Sticks and stones.
One big scarylooking wookie. Okay, he tips well, and frankly that just scares me.
I am the only male dancer I know of... granted I don't travel much, but I like being unique. On some of the dances, some of the flourishes do just look bad for men. Just have to be careful with the macros to make sure you don't do them ![]()
The women make much more money in tips. The musicians make more money in tips.
Ok here is the perspective from a gay man.
I have two entertainers. On two computers. One is a major in Music, with a minor in dance. The other I just started and is majoring in Dance.
I baught the second account just to give me a bit of eye candy wile im playing for the hours it takes to master music. Not that I have anything agenst any of the female dancers, we are all very good friends. Both guys are pretty much openly gay. I havent actuly come out and said it, but with all the flerting we do, you would have to be a dunce to not know.
Nither of us has ever had a negitive comment. Excpt once my musician was wereing his hotpants(which he still does), and some guys said he needed to put on some cloths on. I gave him a /wink, and /cheek, and said you dont like my gorgus body? He never did respond, he just up and left.
I have openly flerted with streight guys, and never had any bad comments. Now know this, there is a big difference between flerting and sexual harasment. Ill give a guys a /wink, or a /smile. If they have done some healing on me, or gave me a realy big tip. I will /cheek them. If they /blush or dont respond. or /nod. Then I know to not take it any farther. If they respond in kind then we can chat. Plesae know I have no interest in cybering or any of that crap. Im simply flerting, and chating. Not to mention playing some **edit** good music. I dont play in my boxers, but I will play in hotpants. Sometimes I will take off my shirt and use the tank that is under it. I dont think I would go any skimpier, tho. Cause frankly the male forms they created have nice rear ends, but they nothing in the front. Not even the slightist hind of a bulge. So anythign skimper than hotpants are not going to look good on us.
Now as for the moves like the others have said they are no more fem than that of what real male dancers perform.
Also this is just a game you dont have to worry about being gay bashed or anything. If someone says something rudely cruel. Whip out your impeccable whit and give them good thong lashing. If your worried about being hit on. If someone is comeing on too strong do the same thing. First try and be polite. Say something like "your not my type" , or "im not gay bro". Something like that, but if they turn out to be a 12 year old. We have gay jerks just like we have streight jerks.
You could also take this time to get to know us. Alot of us are realy nice people. With more on our minds than sex.
I've been workin on my dancing and music skills strictly for the role my character is planned to be. Master Smuggler, hiding under the guise of a Master Musician (but watching the dancers I've change to Novice Musician and Novice Dancerwith Master Entertainer &someKnowledgeskills for more dances and songs...anyway). The ladies who I dance with and image designers in our group I have a blast with. I didn't think I wanted dancing at all until I saw pop n lock, me personally, I've always wished to do it perfect, and here I get a chance to do it perfect virtually (I'm better thananybody I knowat it but no way in hell would I want to be the center of attention with it at a club or house party...well maybe the party for fun
).
I get nothin for tips when dancing...I think I've made 50credits from one kind medic who healed me for a couple days (and if you're healing me I definitley don't WANT a tip....that is my tip). As a musician I've recied over 10k, so yeah I think male dancers are ass out in the dancing scene
. Who cares though, I love pop-n-lock, and popular ain't half bad either...I could do without the leg kicks though
. For the day that I had to do formal dance the fist halfI dreaded it, I don't wanna be a ballet dancer I wanna be a club dancer I thought. But that evening while doing it it struck me as, what it truly is, a beautiful dance. And I went off with the flourishes...mostly because the dance looks like a "drunken monkey" as Leisha pointed out (she was eager to get out of it too
). And now I'm on my way to Master Entertanier for formal 2 as much as for the mandoval as a musician (hopefully footloose won't look so....rough either).
Keep at it! Formal2 looks.. sober and professional; Footloose2 is very enthusiastic; Popular2 loses the leg kick and the awful shimmy-to-squat, has EIGHT flourishes that matchand actually looks like **edit** good disco!!; Poplock2 loses the robotic jerking and looks great. Mandoviol just sounds fantastic and everyone should get master entertainer if they are going for musician.
I agree with your comments about formal flourishes. At the end of the day they just look fantastic and I'm hoping that lyrical (tomorrow hopefully) and exotichave equally as beguiling flourishes, no matter how femme they may look on my male toon.

I am a male Human dancer in the Naritus Galaxy. I usually hang out on Corellia, in Kor Vella. For the most part, people enjoy it when I'm dancing, because of my banter. I also pioneered Corellian Staff Dancing. I use a staff I found as a drop, and it looks pretty good. I don't get many tips, but that is what delivery missions are for ![]()
If you are ever in Kor Vella, stop by the Cantina. I am in and out all the time with my horn player.

I am an artisan, but I was making some clothes the other day, and the with the outfit I came up with, I couldnt resist dancing. I shorts, shortsleeve shirt, and these big poofy boots that looked like leg warmers. I laughed my head off, and I many others did, but I did get a few negative comments from some people who obviously had some sexuality issues. A seductive wink and a blown kiss got rid of them pretty quicly tho. Tips were almost non existent, except for a couple of female characters...but I didnt do it to make money, just to make myself and others laugh, and I think it worked pretty well.
It sounds like there are a lot of men dancing for the "laugh factor," but I wonder how many of us are more serious about it? From the time I became interested in SWG, dancing was all I wanted to do. I prepared a backstory for my character wherein that choice makes sense. He has an artist's temperament that didn't fulfill the expectations of his authoritarian family.Aside from a little surveying, he's got no other professions (though I am starting to wonder if TK would be a good choice, because I do have a male ego, too, after all).
If I provide comic relief, I do it verbally -- OOCly, I feel like I am falling down on the job if I can't make people laugh.
My character is slender, with wide eyes and long hair, so somewhat androgynous -- he gets mistaken for a woman pretty frequently. I imagine I'd take more flak if I looked different. I've had the experience of dancing on the same floor with a grotesque man working the comedy angle, and treated with respect while all manner of insults were hurled at the clown. It has to be all about the attitude.
Sorry to ramble -_-
