You know I've been thinking about this a Lot. The Dancing Profession, the Morality, the Trash Dancing and I think I've come to some tentative conclusions.

First after I got upset the other day I ran off to Coronet on Corellia to be with my Sisters. I was really Angry and Depressed and Bitter. It was like I blamed MYSELF for it. And I kind of got this idea in my head. "Okay if you want Trash Dancing Then I'll SHOW you how it's done!" and I did! Later I was humiliated by what I did but there was an odd perverse pride in seeing the strong reactions. I was GOOD! I was REALLY good!

It took me a day or so to finally figure out what it was that was bothering me. Ayn Rand said when a Contradition appears to exist.. CHECK YOU PREMISES.

I finally found the incorrect premise.

Its NOT the Trash Dancing that offends me so much!

Its the poor, inadequate, classless, tacky, and Juvenile Trash Dancing! Its that they are so BAD that they are embarassing to the Dance profession! I think it is the complete lack of talent and skill that offends me more than ANYTHING.

Some of the Trash Dancers depend on nothing but getting nekkid or dancing close to the customers. Nothing else. It as if the ONLY thing they have to offer is to shake their body parts.

I experiemented a little and found that you can wear pretty much ANYTHING. A plain shirt and pants or a drab skirt. With imagination, skill and a few choice words that SUGGEST rather than STATE, you can do some PRETY EROTIC dancing even with just the first few basic dance styles.

Its SKILL that makes a good dancer. Not just how many dance STYLES you have. Not just colored lights. Not just clothes. and NOT how high up on the skill tree you are. But the skill that YOU have in your mind and your fingers.

Its WHAT you do with what game Dance skills you DO have. How you use them effectively along with clothes, words, sounds, props, motion to create the DANCE you want to do. Tp communicate a Mood, a Suggestion, an Idea, a Promise, a Desire.

That's what dancing is about!

So... I'm a Trash Dancer if that's the word you want to use. Doesn't bother me. During the day and early evening I dance plain and I chat. My job then is to Heal. I wear plain comfortable clothes, nothing very interesting.

At night I dance to Entertain! I dance Erotic. I dance humourous. I dance to Thrill my audience. I dance to Blow their minds and leave them hungry for more. I dance to make them forget they're playing a game and to captivate their senses whether they are male or female. I dance to lock their minds eye on ME and what I do. I dance to turn them into my willing slaves for a time until I choose to relase them.

I've a very picky person about people being in my dance space. If someone gets too close to me, I stopdance and move, unless its a regular that I've became friends with or Tatsu of course. I wear comfortable clothes, but some are a little skimpy, depending on the crowd.

I just can't wait until I get to log and test my new dances..

I agree completely Micalia. Its MY dance space and I decide what it encloses and no one else. If I choose to enclose someone within it as I dance it's MY dance and not theirs.

If someone closes in, another dancer wandering, a customer running in and overshooting or just someone stepping a little too close I usually move away. Either to even out a dance line of dancers or just to give myself some room for the visual effects.

That doesn't mean that at times I don't dance extremely close to someone to create a particular effect or to send an unspoken message. Dance, even with the limited movement we have in-game, can be very powerful and sensual with a little imagination and creativity.

When I am doing an Erotic routine around someone I don't know and who doesn't know my needs, I often send a /Tell to them asking him or her to remain still so as not to ruin the effect I am trying to create. Everyone has cooperated so far.

I don't mean this to sound dismissive at all: I think you are really over-analyzing things here and causing yourself a lot of unecessary stress. Believe me, I like to analyze things too, and have been accused of taking things to seriously myself from time to time -- but honestly, you need to take a deep breath and - dare I say it - turn your analysis off and just play. Play. The sun will go on rising and setting reguardless of whether or not people ask for lap dances or not.

Sel, a lot of the time when you're dancing you just don't have a whole lot to keep your mind occupied. Know what I mean? Dancing is NOT the most mentally challenging profession in the world!

So one has a lot of time to think. I always keep a book handy in the dresing room and read a few pages during breaks to give myself food for thought. Quantum Physics, Military History, Sexual Mores of the Gungans, Moral Philosophy, ANY old thing to give myself something to think about while dancing.

So if you're gonna get stressed about things might as well get stressed about something with some sound theoretical and ideological underpinning based upon a thorough study of the basic metaphysical principles of human and universal morality, eh?

Otherwise I'd just have to settle for how absolutely HORRIBLE that outfit is SHE is wearing is. I mean wearing THAT color with THAT hair. Come ON!!! You have GOT to be kidding!! Now THAT will cause stress!!!

Yea, okay. So I'm basically a very shallow person in some ways. But I can fool most people, most of the time.

Would you rather I griped and complained about the incredible and utter LACK of fashion sense among SOME dancers?

Not my dance style in particular, but hey, if you enjoy it and can do it well then more power too you hun. Dancing is a lot about doing what we enjoy, and I have to say I agree,bad trash dancing is really really obnoxious.. I won't put up with one in my group. But someone that did it well and with taste, no problem at all with that and I'd have fun watching the poor guys reaction.

No offense Flawed..

But honestly..We need more folks like you in game.. Folks that are not only into dancing, but honestly into entertaining.

But beyond that, honestly into thier character, no matter what profession they may be..

Just not enough folks like that around for my taste.

You can ALWAYS tell. Their typing turns to mush. Guys that normally type VERY well suddenly start typing like ME! hee hee THAT'S how you judge the effect you're having on them....

Well Flawed, as long as we're over-analyzing, I essentially agree with you (the second time around.) I think what is really furstrating sometimes is not actually people trying to be seductive or a bit exotic with the customers. I think what's really bothersome is how bad most of it is. The very populated cantinas can sometimes start feeling like I'm burined in 23 year olds going through puberty all over again, rather than in a place where very sleek, very sexy, very in control seductresses are wowing the audience into awe.

The former sucks, the latter is great.
