hit the nail on the head. I think my prudish attitude when dancing isnt so much because of content. It's more bc of how others so blatantly are bad at it. It takes no skill to remove to undies and write a shout script. it takes a lot to interact.

I don't always wink, I don't always smile, I am not watching the door, I am concerned with me performance, not my credits.

pretty much sums me up when entertaining. I interact, I don't XP.

You can ALWAYS tell. Their typing turns to mush. Guys that normally type VERY well suddenly start typing like ME! hee hee THAT'S how you judge the effect you're having on them....
I'ts very obvious. I think it's the shaky hands that give them away.

It's not their shaky hands, it's just that they're now typing with one hand!

Oddly, I can always type just fine. Having seen actual naked females must have jaded me to the point that dancers don't have any impact in a video game. Hmmm.

/cheers Flawed

I've been very troubled by the threads on this issue over the last few days. But they are like a car wreck - I can't seem to stop looking at them and trying to figure out what I really think (but in the process of writing this, I think I figured it out).

I would like to seeentertainers show respect for themselves and their skills, as you do.

But more than that, I'd like to see the audiences show more respect for the entertainers. People in the audience need to get with the program and understand that dancing does not equal an invitation to anything but watch and listen - tip, cheer, applaud - let the in game emotes and commandsbe your guide. As far as I know, there are no macros for licking anyone else.

A dancer performing a sexually suggestive dance is not aninvitation for an audience member to suggest anything. If a dancer wants to offer something more than the listening and watching while he/she performs, that should be initiated by theentertainer and ONLY the entertainer.

My character rarely dances in cantinas. I've gotten around the whole "dance = something sexual" thing by making healing and dancing part of her RP'd religion. She's a brawler who is old, flat chested, wears very conservative clothes and mostly dances in camps for hunting parties. Yes, training has been slow without a group and I miss the fun that can be had when a group in the cantina is really good. But it isn't worth it to me to put up with the crap - I'm not a good enough roleplayer.

I think we mostly agree, actually. I am surprised about the /lick, but I'll take your word for it. I was really just using it as a short way of not saying some of the vulgar stuff that gets said.

At any rate, I do agree that the message of the dance is implicit, unless and until the dancer makes it explicit. That's why it used to be called strip tease. The question then becomes "what does the audience member do in response to the implied message of the dance?" You suggest that in the absence of bouncers and etiquette, players feel free to respond in a more overt way than they would in RL. I agree. But, somewhere there's got to be a happy medium between responding to the dancerin a roleplaying opportunity and some of the crude actions that are going on in the game.

I must agree with FD.

I used to dance in a nice jumping place where everyone was having fun, no naked bodies or lewd comments. Then a whole bunch moved in demanding Tips and stripping for money. This have caused the majority of the group that was there to leave and go else where to make a living. I have been still seeing my regular in a room off to the side, and they all come over offering services with tips. Telling him he needs to go and watch their group, not one person. He is also not impressed with all of this. He also liked it the other way.

I even had it where someone demanded that I did that. I am not that kind of a girl, I take pride in my profession. It was so bad that my regular challenge him to a duel over it....I mean, do I need to move also? I usually let things just slide off but I mean. What does a person do, I like where I am, only if they would be considerate of others.

Sorry to rant and rave, but as I stated, I agree with FD.

Come on people, let's be professional here....

Sheesh! You bill a thread as morality and it turns out to be about artistic technique. That's false advertising, Flawed!

Try /lick. You might be surpised.

A dancer performing a sexually suggestive dance is not aninvitation for an audience member to suggest anything. If a dancer wants to offer something more than the listening and watching while he/she performs, that should be initiated by theentertainer and ONLY the entertainer.

The audience might have a different opinion on that. Especially if the dancer is, as Flawed bills herself, an erotic dancer. Eroticism is all about the implied invitation. There's very little eroticism emanating from a dancer who (for instance) says "Sit down, shaddup, and keep your hands to yourself. Now, watch!". (Unless you're the sort that normally finds getting bossed around erotic.)

Eroticism happens when you KNOW that you can't touch, you KNOW that she's not REALLY interested in you, that you're just a customer, butthat it FEELS like she might be and maybe, just maybe she's giving you that special smile and those teases because you're more important and more interesting than the other guys sitting five feet away that she's ignoring in favor of you. It's a fantasy and the dancer's ability to create that fantasy is, in great part, the measure of her eroticism.

Point being that, in lieu of real-life limitations like bouncers and etitquette, players in games feel more free to act on that "invitation" if someone is dancing in a suggestive manner. The "Just because I danced like I was asking for it doesn't mean I was REALLY asking for it" defense won't help you because the unreality of the game gives the socially marginal players all the excuse they need. "It's just a game! Who cares! I'm just role-playing someone who you made horny!" Basically, if you dance suggestively, you have to be prepared to handle the consequences or control the situation so that they don't occur. Otherwise, don't do it.

I suppose that's marginally about erotic dance technique and completely unrelated to morality so I better stop there.

Glad you found a new angle FD. Would be a shame to loose someone with devotion to their profession by others who have no respect for themselves.

And in my cantina, we DO have bouncers and they take care of us pretty well I must say.
