Thread: If The Developers don’t know what to do with us…

It’s becoming obvious that the developers have no idea what to do with the entertainer profession from the time between the CU and the Entertainer revamp. If that is indeed the case, what if they were to:

1. Just do away with BF. It’s obvious that BF is a token bone to keep us involved, and is a detour from the main vision of the CU.

2. Forget about developing a buff system for the entertainers. Again, it seems that this was not real part of the CU plan, just some reason for us to continue to exist.

3. Remove all skill point requirements for all entertainment professions. If the only purpose for id, music & dancing is an artistic effect, don’t lock us out of the rest of the game.

4. Remove the entertainer healing tree from the requirements for Novice Dancer & Musician. If there is no healing to be done, then no one can gain xp.

5. Move Master level skills to Lv4 branches, and “break” the ability to gain Master ID. This would already be done for Entertainer, Dancer & Musician via lack of entertainer healing. The rank of Master should be reserved for players that sacrificed skill points prior to the CU for that rank. If a real purpose for entertainers is developed in the future, those masters should be grandfathered in as new masters. The others should have some credit offered to them when a real vision for us comes, but they should still have to work for it at a cost.

The developers have a vision for the CU. Right, wrong or indifferent, it would seem that keeping the entertainment professions involved in the larger game is going to force them away from that vision. If that is indeed the case, simply let us join the greater game through other professions, until there is a real reason for us to exist as entertainers, and go ahead with the core plan for the CU.

As for me, I doubt they even have a clue yet what our so-called revamp should be like. That is, if they even have any plans to give us a revamp in the first place, something which I'm also not very confident about.

I'm pretty sure you're right. In fact I had to go through my post a few time to change if's to when's...

The real problem we'll be facing if there are no changes, is that we'll serve no function with in the game, and the steadfast few willl fall away. When the last of us has left the building, the Devs can simply turn out the light.

If we can reamin entertainers at no skill cost, we my actually gain numbers.

I don't want entertainers to have no skill costs. I could maybe agree to a reduced skill cost, but none at all? No, I don't want every combat monkey to AFK grind up to be able to do exotics while they fight. And they will. Every one of them. And then we have nothing unique about us and the cantinas will be full to the brim of AFKing combat monkeys.

The devs don't deserve to be let off the hook this easy. They promised us a viable social game, now we're gonna make them deliver it.

Giving up ain't an option in my book.

How about no? Thanks. I'm at 4043 Dancer right now, and I happily look forward to my Master title. The update doesn't bother me in the least. For me, it will be business as usual. I only need healing XP to get to Master now, and I am making my way there, albeit slowly. So no, that idea is horrid.

ROFL ok, you got me there... I don't need a MIND buff for heavy combat. For light-weights like Famba, I'm fine with all my natural pools & novice medic. If you wanna go after the Acklay or do a bit of Night Sister stalking, I need the Doc buffs to be useful to the group for anything other than pulling a victim from their group, but even for that I run wiout a mind buff.

The point still remains, the releasedcomments make no referance to mind buffs, either confirming or denying them.

The fact that you know this means you are deliberately inciting panic for your own entertainment.

Stop it.

2. Forget about developing a buff system for the entertainers. Again, it seems that this was not real part of the CU plan, just some reason for us to continue to exist. They said specifically that the mind and action pools will be what combatants spend to do special attacks. So mind buffs will be as nessecary after the CURB as Quickness, Stamina, Constitution and Strength buffs are now.

3. Remove all skill point requirements for all entertainment professions. If the only purpose for id, music & dancing is an artistic effect, don’t lock us out of the rest of the game. That is not what Blair said. He said they were reducing the skill point cost for ID so that it would be possible to Master ID, Musician AND Dancer. Which is currently impossible.

4. Remove the entertainer healing tree from the requirements for Novice Dancer & Musician. If there is no healing to be done, then no one can gain xp.

Again, Blair said nothing of the kind.

5. Move Master level skills to Lv4 branches, and “break” the ability to gain Master ID. This would already be done for Entertainer, Dancer & Musician via lack of entertainer healing. No it would not. Remember that there are new dances and songs to be gained in the Master boxes. And the modifiers for mind buffs will most likely still increase in the Master box.

Remember what I said. And if you must read the CURB notes, read all of them to avoid unnessecary headaches.

Personally, I'm exited about the direction Dancers are taking given the information I read. I would be even happier if people were given a seperate pool of 'Hobby' skill pointsthatcame from a seperate pool of Skill Points like politician and Pilot. That way everyone could do a little entertaining on their own, but we'd be needed for mind buffs and healing.

I have read the CURB notes, and I do realize that Blair didn't say they would be doing the things I suggested. I was proposing a way to give entertainers a way to stay involved in the rest of the game since it would seem that we were (inadvertantly?) written out of the game, and are now being hasily written back into thingssince the Devs realized we were being made useless.

As for our buffs being needed as bad as Doc buffs are needed today... As a Rifleman, my Naritus toon does just fine with no entertainer buffs under the current build. I refuse to make use of the buffbots, so I go without and binge on brandy & ahrisa. 2 brandy and 3 ahrisa, and I can spam SS2 from the T21 forever, even while wearing the tin can. I don't see that a weaker buff would be any more necessary.

I must have missed something in the release though, if you are excited about what you read. What I read is that we will no longer have a significant impact on anything, and the only reason a combat player will want to see me is to gain a slight edge. Today, when I can offer them a 100% increase in theirmind power, they don't really want to see me. I'm not sure why they'd be any happier about comming to see me for a 10-20% bump.
