Thread: Where do real Entertainers hang out?

I've been giving Entertainers the benefit of the doubt, that my issues with Ents are actually from your arch nemsises, the AFK Bots, so where do i have to go to bump into the "Real" entertainers? Because apparently everywhere i go im only seeing buff bots.

- I support NO DECAY.It should be run like EQ . No 20k price cap on the bazar and everyone can craft. Its has worked for 7 years on everquest and there is no decay plenty of money and no crazy prices.

Decay is only good for crafteres and bad for everyone else.

Most of the time I can be found in my theatre. However, one thing about live entertainers is that there is an actual person behind it and they tend to like to wander around and do things as well.

Well there's no real one single answer for this. You first have to be open to the fact that there are "real people" behind "real entertainers" and as such there will be variation and limitation to our availability, but as long as you're willing to give ATK Entertainers a chance, this shouldn't be a problem.

At this point I think I would refer you to a guide on finding Entertainers that has already been done and includes some good advice on different ways to find and meet active Entertainers on your server. Try that and see if it helps.

It's nice of you to take an interest, thanks.

I spend most of my game time at social gatherings now, which are usually in player cities. Often in Cantinas, but also outside, in City Hall, a Theater, or sometimes even a shop or someone's house. I stopped making myself spend time in empty NPC Cantinas right before I stepped down as a corr.

I stayed in there mind buffing with the Bots long after most ATK Ents had stopped, but I only did it because I was the DC there at the end, not because it was fun anymore. Since my first few weeks in the game, I picked up the habit of going into every cantina I ever passed just to see if anyone fun was there to talk to, anyone needed me, or any new Ents needed help.

I still do that.

The rest of the time I'm off shopping or sometimes tagging along with a hunting group or hanging out near PvP action. I'll hop into the chat channels and go pretty much where ever people are gathered and having fun.

No matter where I go in game though, I always talk to everyone... and I always dance (or ID if I have it)if someone asks me to and I have time for it.

Your welcome, if im wrong about 'real' entertainers i want to find out, i like social activity at times, and it'd be nice to meet people who live up to what Entertainers are suppose to be, and assign the blame where it belongs, which the AFK bots though it seems to me those AFK bots won if they drove you from npc cantinas into player city cantinas and scattered around, and it makes me kinda feel bad for real Ents who enjoy socializing and dancing to not be able to practice their craft where its easy for people to find and engage them.

Can't help you on your server.

On mine, there is a live entertainer shindig every Friday. The venue varies from week to week. Beyond that, I'm on a band, Hyperdrive, that used to perform every Sat. The got a bit much so we are scaling back to alternating Saturdays. And beyond that, I perform in Mos Eisley every chance I get... which is about 4 evenings a week.

This is all on the Naritus server though. Can't hel you on Sunrunner.

My recommendation is to look for a /registered cantina (on the world map, open the cantina list and look for one with a * by it). Most of the AFK bots don't seem to know /register exists or what it does, so if you see a cantina registered, there's a fair chance (probably not more than 50-50 but better than zero I would guess, at least on Naritus) that you will find a live performer there.

You just hit the nail on the head.

Yes, that is what happened... the bots drove most of us away from public venues. The problem is, they're not AT their keyboard so they are not impacted by their own obnoxious and selfish behavior. We are at keyboard so we ARE impacted by it.

Example:
A few months after launch, a LOVELY person named "NurseBettyBoo" (I'm sick of protecting her by altering her name in this story, so I'll just say it this time) was AFK macroing in the cantina in Moenia. This was back when Moenia was a major battleground for PVP. I was in there with another dancer named Cael. We were both at-keyboard players. AFK macroing hadn't gotten big yet. But little NurseBettyBoo already had it figured out. She was in there, with her (AFK) tag up, on a looped macro. In addition to flourishing she was doing a /shout macro along the lines of (not an exact quote, as my memory fails me) "COME SEE THE LIVE STRIPPERS IN THE CANTINA!"

As you can imagine, this behavior attracted a truly wonderful assortment of people from all around the starport and cantina areas of Moenia, who saw the /shouts and came into the cantina looking for "strippers." They then harassed me and Cael to strip for them and got angry when we wouldn't, because they felt it was "false advertising." We tried to explain that NurseBettyBoo was not a part of our group nor did she have our permission to make this advertisement on our behalf, but these concepts were apparently too subtle for the people who just wanted to see the strippers "as advertised." A few people did get angry at NurseBettyBoo, and said some nasty things to her.

NurseBettyBoo, however, was AFK. Her player was not there. The player did not have to put up with the rude comments. He/she/it did not have to deal with the angry patrons... did not have to deal with the acrimony... did not have to deal with his/her/its own spam, which was firing off every 60 seconds or so.

As you can imagine, NurseBettyBoo (AFK) stayed there and flourished/shout-spammed for a long while. Or so I assume. I wouldn't know, because after about 20 minutes of this, I left and in frustration went to Keren. There, I found one At-keyboard musician and we jammed together, so the story has a semi-happy ending. But NurseBettyBoo did what most AFKers like her do -- she drove me and Cael (the two at-keyboarders) away from Moenia cantina... to the detriment of everyone but, of course, NurseBettyBoo, who got to gain her healing and dance XP at the expense of everyone else.

This is the problem with AFKing. Since they are not there, they do not have to accept or deal with the consequences of their own actions. They can grief me, and even if I were the griefing sort, it is impossible for me to grief them back, because I can't do anything to damage their form of game-play, while they can with trivial effort, utterly demolish my preferred form of game-play. Because the situation is so one-sided, the AFKers automatically win, and the at-keyboarders have to either really like stomaching the fallout from the likes of NurseBettyBoo... or they have to give up and go somewhere that people like her cannot reach them.

I stayed in Keren for a while and for a couple of months the AFKers avoided it because there wasn't enough XP traffic there. But in the end, when the "Phatwookiees", a group of inveterate AFKers, decided to set up camp there, I finally made my end of public venues and started performing exclusively at our town cantina. At the time I still needed like 4 boxes of heal XP, which were impossible to get in a private place, but I ended up forgoing (for about 8 months) mastery of the dance profession, because to master would have required me to deal with the likes of miss Boo for hours on end, and I refused to do that.

When they started funneling the newbs to Mos Eisley it livened up a bit, and at around that time I lost my job so I spent a good deal of time there with other live performers. But as always, when a lot of XP is to be had, the AFKers eventually found it (luckily after I had mastered this time) and it once more became a zombie yard.

Just tonight, I was there -- I try to go a few times a week to help the newbies -- and there were 4 other entertainers there... every one AFK. Though thankfully, no one was spamming about strippers...

I go where the patrons are. Frankly, parties are nice, but I like to interact with a variety of characters.

So when I need some credits, I go to Coronet, Theed, or other well traveled places. Not the MO, because its too crowded, but I tend to perform for a short time, and leave when I feel I cannot perform at my best.

Its exhaustive and demanding work, when done right. The working conditions are hard. That is why I do not do it as often as perhaps one may like. But when I do perform, I tend to be rather well received.

I don't dance much these days, as you well know, but I can often be found at your house.

Well, when my computer is working again, anyway...

after tonight, and several other instances, i strongly believe the answer is: anywhere where one entertainer happens to meet another entertainer.

example: Dantooine Imperial Outpost

i happened to run into a MID/MENT, we talked about good stuff, showed off a bit dancing and playing music. got out droids out to play more music. another girl happens along, we greet her, she starts dancing with us. i call up the best musician on Ahazi to join us, before you know it we're 4 ents having a jam session under the shuttle in the dant imp outpost.

On Sunrunner (/hi5 for Sunrunner .), most of the ATK ents hang out in the Theed cantina. We actually had a prettybig party going on last night.

Thanks for the support.

Some of us hang out in the NPC cantinas, helping out and encouraging ATK play. Mostly, I'm so busy taking care of my guild, performing with The Kreetles and doing ID work. I also spend a lot of time in front of the various starports, helping newbies and crafting instruments for those working on Musician.

I also enjoy a lot of the RP events. One of my latest ventures is to be a Dancer/Musician for hire. Many people I know taking space missions and doing heavy duty fighting, will pay me to fly to their location to help with the inspiration buff and healing. Put some live entertainers on your friends list and when you feel social, give them a ping. Many of us simply go where people are, who want to be entertained or socialize.

Many of us don't need XP, so we're able to travel around...almost like a bard.

OH! Don't forget to check your server's forum in the stickies for Player Events schedule. You can build a network of entertainers that way.
