Thread: Where do real Entertainers hang out?

Speaking as a Sunrunner player (sporadic, I admit), ATK entertainers are where you find them.

I've performed in Coronet, Theed, the MO, Dathomir - all of them really, but those four tend to be the ones I purposefully check when I'm in a roaming mood.

Coronet: Great experience to be had, level wise, terrible experience player-to-player wise. Most often full of bots, though occasionally I've gotten lucky. There were a few live ones after the CU, a couple new to entertaining who I'd chat it up with, but after a couple of weeks the bots just made the place too clausterphobic for me again.

Theed: Unreliable. I continue to hear great things about it, but get no response when I poke the performers there after I give up on Coronet's performance of the Living Dead. NOTE: THIS MAY BE DUE TO MY VERY STRANGE PLAY HOURS, which range randomly from just after peak, to extremely off peak. RPers DO know to visit Theed, so even without a lively performer population, there are decent odds you'll find someone to converse with.

MO: Heavy traffic, very crowded, too much going on to make catching the live performers less than a chore. Speaking only for myself, I prefer to perform in places where I can admire my wonderous performance with a clear view, and thus tend not to stick around anymore (though I remember the good old days when...eh, nevermind).

Dathomir: Dead as a brick - or worse. But when I feel like utter solitude and helping the extremely occasional visitor, it's where I crash.

I strongly encourage you to use the Planetary Map, drop down the Cantina's listing and look for one with a SUN symbol beside it (most, if not all, will have MOON symbols). The SUN symbol means a Dancer or Musician is in that cantina at that time, and used the /register command. Performers who use this command have a much higher chance of being At The Keyboard than those who do not. This used to be broken and was only recently fixed.

I won't go into every single reason why, but unfortunately most of the "real" entertainers hang out in player city cantinas when they're doing their thing. I feel like I'm one of the few old school entertainers, at least on my server, that makes it a point to go to the public cantinas. But, most of the other "entertainers" in these places are afk or noobs. Of course, I don't mind the noobs. But, the problem is, they're there for acouple ofmonths and then after they've levelled, they're gone and a new crop comes in. The mainstay old timers just don't go to the cantinas much anymore, which is unfortunate. Player cantinas and parties can be fun. But, if I'm going to be perfectly honest, I prefer the public cantinas and the variety of people I met there. And, even during a Cantina night (which is every night on Kettemoor), a lot of times I stay in Theed because I get more out of it.

Alot of people have suggested cantina nights to find the real entertainers. But, the problem is, that's only a few hours within any given day. The rest of the time they're hard to find. I wish this wasn't so. I long for those days where the old timers would go to the public cantinas and actually perform. I'm not sure what can be done to get it back to that. But, in a way, I sympathize with you if you can't find them during normal gameplay, where you need them.

It's unfortunate that the root of the problem started with afk. And, I fear that until it's gone, you're just not going to see as many live players in the Cantinas.

Lol Dejah..you just reminded me of SB &me making fun of a blue rodian who AFK'd in Doaba not long after launch. His advertisement was that he would do "special favors" for tips! (we've recently heard from SB btw..she's playing 2nd Life).

Usually I dance at Dant Mining Outpost on Chilastra. Its where the hunting groups form up usually and I refuse to give in. *Small blue twilek, hands on hips, tries to look tough!*

I make a HUGE effort to let every person that walks through that door know Im really there at the keys by targetting them and /smiling, greeting and/or welcoming them by name. I hug all the wookiees too and just say "Gotta do it, I have a hug-all-wookiees rule!" There is not one "say" in my repeating flourish macro and everyone who I see say the same thing more than once or twice gets put on addignore.

I make extra effort if someone comes in and faces a bot. I consider it my game of "keep away" to keep their attention away from the afk'ers. Best thing for me is when someone says "Wow you're actually here! Thank you! So many entertainers have quit or dont come here anymore."

I've been giving Entertainers the benefit of the doubt, that my issues with Ents are actually from your arch nemsises, the AFK Bots, so where do i have to go to bump into the "Real" entertainers? Because apparently everywhere i go im only seeing buff bots.

On Sunrunner, I tend to frequent the player cantinas in Smuggler's Luck on Lok. It's a roleplaying community with very little use for afk macro types. Rellig Steppes is another RP community on Dantooine and wouldn't stand for an afker in their cantina.

When my combat alt wants the buff, or healing for BF, she checks the major cantinas for live people. If she doesn't find them, she moves on. I won't give xp to bots, even at the expense of not having the buff

This afternoon, I found Irisheyes in the C'net cantina. She got the best tip I could manage and my thanks for being there for us.

At the moment, I really don't know where I hang out. I am re-mastering dancer right now so need to be in the cantinas. I have had a couple of very frustrating days in Mos Eisley leading afk groups

I can't wait to place my own cantina, and have asked my guild to focus on recruiting a few ATK entertainers, which they are more than happy to do.

Just wanted to add that, yes, afk players drive out ATK players. I was in the MO cantina a few nights ago, and the only person who was not afk. I could not get into their group since nobody was around to invite me. So, I was being very explicitly at the keyboard -- greeting people, chatting etc. and to my horror they each walked up to the most naked looking afk bot and watched her (who was also spamming /planet advertising her buff bot abilities). It just gets a bit demoralising after a while.

One customer was so shocked that I spoke to him he sent me a tell saying "Yes"? and berrated me for 'macroing him' (as though I was not capable of typing "Welcome ".

I can sympathize with this. I was in Mos Eisley actually talking to another player in spatial, the only ATK ent therewhen someone new entered the cantina. I greeted the newcomer only to be told that if he had known I was "there" he would have started to watch me instead.

I guess we can macro conversations too!

I did steal a little tip I read on the forum here and have started to include specific identifiers to my greeting, such as "Hello Boba, that's a lovely shade of blue you are wearing" or some such nonsense. The AFKers often use a macro to target and greet so adding the "personal" touch seems to help a little.

I don't "hang-out" in one specific spot but I always wear my tag and am searchable and register when I am in a cantina or theater. I will gladly drop a camp in the middle of Dath or Yavin or whereever I am collecting DNA to do a buff or run back to the cantina to heal BF. All people have to do is ask.

I used to like hanging out in city halls, but then the AFK politicians ruined that. I don't even wear my Master Politician title anymore. All those strangers sending /tells... "Hey! Come buff my city!"
