The profession has still not been addressed by the developers, yet there are still dancers. Are you people just masochists, or is there really something in this game for the non-combat player?

I was a dancer for a couple of months. I even became a Master Dancer. But after all, the profession just didn't allow me to travel or participate in the wider aspects of the game. In the end it just became a $15 per month chatroom. It was okay to begin with - you could get missions that forced you to travel and perform in off-world locations, but when they changed the mission pay structure, all that ended.

So I'm curious: what keeps dancers dancing when there's nowvery little to do in terms of the wider game, and no hint that the developers care enough to improve the entertainment professions?

I was chatting with a friend recently, a master tailor and CH, and she said she could give up anything but she would always keep her tailoring. I felt the same way about dancing. The attraction of this game is that you can master more than one thing. A'Ri isn't forced to spend her days in a cantina because she's also a rifleman... and a tailor. When those things being to become boring, she'll move on to the next goal.

Thinking you're chained to a cantina because you're an entertainer is ridiculous (sp?)

What keeps me dancing? Good question. I no longer dance in 'public' cantinas. I keep an 'honorary' membership in my old entertainer PA (I go to any gigs we do) but I joined a rebel aligned PA in the meantime. I now dance in the city's cantina when people need healing. I've gone along on pvp raids of bases where we put up a camp along the way and I buff the whole raid. I've recently taken up a combat profession, so I go on hunts with guildmates and I dance in camps during a rough round of missions, or I dance in the cantina in the nearest outpost when we go in to get more missions. It's a lot more fun now that I get out in the field, and I'm sad to have to drop master tailor but really enjoying my new combat profession.

I even consider dropping dancing altogether, but then I read Sultrina's great posts about combining parts of dance flourishes and realize that I'm not yet finished learning about dancing; or I'll go perform at someone's Christmas party (Thank you Callyndra and Theodis for always having such great player events!) and listen as people say, 'Wow, synched dancing, I didn't even know that was possible! that's cool!' Comments like that from Joe Combat-wombat always make me smile, and that's something you won't get if you're just going out and killing things. (Not that there's anything wrong with that either!)

Dancing has gone from my main profession to something I also do on the side, but I think it will remain a part of my character. My gaming pals are all appreciative when I join on hunts since they get the nice mind buff, and I like to think that my dancing in their camps also adds to their gaming experience beyond 'good, now my mind pool is doubled'. Of course, I might just be lucky to have the PA I do

What if you just don't enjoy killing things for $$? Sure, if you like killing stuff, then you have a choice, but if you want to be a dancer/musician or entertainer/tailor, your ability to get anywhere in this game is rather limited.

From my point of view, and I don't speak out all that often (See # of posts I've done), it's the fact that you can master multiple professions, but also keep some of the basic skills that let you participate in most aspects of the game. I'm just about complete Master Dancer, and work on Image Designer on the side. But, also, I do have a combat profession that keeps meable to group with some of my friends and go on hunting expeditions. My skill points are all across the board. I've got Novice Medic so I can heal myself (to offset the Carbineer costs for using special attacks), Novice Scout (Through Exploration IV) to traverse the terrain (but, now that there are vehicles, that may change, but mask scent is awfully nice). I keep all these professions because of the fact that my attention span is so short. Do I want to master all these professions? No. I have them to enhance the game. My main thing is to have fun, it's only a game...

So, why do I dance? Because I'm in the mood for it.

I'm still here because dancing is the best profession in any RPG ever made and I love it. I can't get enough of it.

Yep. You read that right.

I like the variety. I kill and level for hours.. then go to the cantina and unwind. I dance and chit chat with my friends after just listening to combat music and growling animals all day. Dancers/musicians/patrons are funner to talk to than pikets and huurtons! It may seem boring to you, but we could say the exact same thing that you do: "Why pay 15 bucks a month to just kill stuff over and over?" It's just point of view. :c)

Depends on what your definition of 'get anywhere in the game' is.

Not true dear! I used to think this way, that I was simply lucky to get 200 cred here or there. However, with the new buffing system, I can easily make 20k, and if I work really hard, twice that.

I mastered dancer several months ago, and I still dance in cantinas. Most of my playtime is spent dancing, to be honest. It is not the money - don't make too much money dancing, even with buffing - but it has an appeal other professions don't hold for me.

Why? My friends, my partner and I cant stand hunting.
Dancing is a mind-set, not just something you can bop into and then leave, in my opinion.

So I think my main reason is...
I enjoy it.
