Thread: There is some hope on advanced planets

Well, I just wanted to share a positive experience on Dantooine. I've always considered advanced planets to be hit or miss, and I had a pretty good hit last night.

First off, when I logged in, there was already a dancer in the cantina. I was pleased to see that it was a live dancer too. That was a nice touch. We talked a little bit before I went out hunting. So I was on a safari with a group and was having fun with the Exploration/Killing side of SWG. I received a /tell asking if I was near the Mining Outpost and if I could come help them out. I figured I had enough of Exploration/Killing and wanted to go play with my Socializing/Healing side. Sadly, I took an express trip to the cloning center as a hurton caught me without my pets (oops!).

But when I arrived at the cantina, the person who was there had 3/4 of his Mind black rotted. It amazed me. I haven't seen anyone suffer that much since the early days of SWG. So I danced my little butt off for him and gave him a mind buff to boot. He tipped me 10k. I'm not sure if I ever got a tip that large; I don't remember one, so I can consider this a first (not counting a tip as a pet and wardrobe). Someone else tipped me 10k. There were several people there who were in need of healing.

In about 20 minutes of dancing, I gained 35,400 credits. Not too shabby. I never got that while dancing in Bestine.

People were appreciative of the dancing. They had a need, and I filled it. It made me feel damned proud to be a Dancer. Someone purposely sought me out (probably did a Search or /who and saw a Skilled Dancer). This is the way the economy ought to work. People did not just take me for granted or treat me like a heal bot. They enjoyed my efforts and were happy to talk about their troubles. It felt like the good ole days.

Of course, I wouldn't be naive enough to say that this can happen for just anyone. In fact, if I log on tonight and go to Lok or Dathomir, I probably won't get the same reaction. But there was that one moment where I felt like an actual Entertainer again. I had the same pride in my work as I did when I only had Ent Heal II.

So, do not despair, fellow Dancers. Such moments are still out there. They are not common, but you can find patrons who respect the dangers of Endor and Yavin and will seek you out. At the very least, when I find myself staring into the lifeless eyes of a healbot in the remote corners of Dathomir, I can think back fondly to when I had an admiring audience on Dantooine.

Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

i dunno man, i'm pretty sure the game is ruined for us.

i mean just the other day i only made 50,000 credits on dathomir dancing. JEEZ! i only healed 15 or 20 people, and only buffed 2 or 3 groups. i felt pretty unwanted. also yesterday i noticed that thanks to nvoigts superior tactics manual (tm) no fewer than 19 of 35 people waiting for the shuttle in coronet had mind wounds. GOOD LORD! back in the good old days before afk macroing every single person had black mind bars. and 1000s of BF.

i wept for the ruined class.

Glad to hear it Kuildeous!

Meeuki, no offense, but do you ever post anything that isn't sarcastic, caustic or agressively argumentative? I'm not going to tell you how to post, but jeez.

I really think you need a hug.

*hugs Meeuki*

You mean he/she would have to acknowledge that heal bots are impacting the Entertainment economy and lessening the hazards of advanced planets? That's a tall order. If he/she doesn't pick on these issues which "destroy our profession" then how can he/she justify the AFK for experience or "altruistic" reasons? Of course, these issues don't destroy our profession, but it's more fun to pick on that one phrase and pretend that we all believe that.

But it's not worth picking at anymore. Some people simply would prefer that each player exists in a vacuum with no dependence on others. They could do the smart thing and go play Half-Life. Instead, they like to come here and insist that multiplayer games shouldn't require dependence on others. Ah well.

Glad you had a good experience.

I was planning on going to Dant with some friends over the holidays but I have been stuck at "connecting to login server" all day and previously couldn't even get the launchpad to fire, so I am having some problems on this stupid laptop. /sigh

It is fun how it is OK for the adventurers to say that NOT having AFK heal bots around to heal them when and where they want destroys THEIR fun, but if we say having them around destroys our fun, that is not OK. Nice double standard there.

it's also funny howtwo zombieswamped cantinas in the whole game ruin the fun for a whole profession. or how two zombie cantinas stop entertainers from putting on shows in the street, at the starport, in the theaters, on the corner, in any of the billions of other cantinas in the game that are always empty, etc.. etc... etc...

i mean it cracks me up.

did you explain you could buff their minds? maybe the afkers had a /join in their macro and thus the groups didn't need you. but imo that is a different situation altogether and one i've already tried numerous times to start discussions on preventing. i'm not sure why nobody seems to have any opinion on that.

but really **edit** groups are offtopic. there are always going to be people like that. heck, what if it had been two ATK guild dancers in the cantina? what if when you asked if you could dance with them they said "**edit** off worm."

i mean it happens.

try a different adventure world though, i wasn't always successful on them, but you try 3 or 4 and then find one that nets you 100k a day and 4 boxes of entertainment healing and you'll be singing a different tune.

Just sharing my Dantooine experience. I really didn't mean for my post to be _too_ rantish, I was just telling the tale of last night's trip and it happened to be a crappy one and it happened to involve AFK people. I'm sure there will be good nights eventually but first impressions can be sticky.

and if it had have been ATK people telling me where to go then I would have done pretty much what I did- told them off, smoked a bowl, moved on, shared my tale when I thought it was applicable.

As for telling people about buffs, I'm a fairly low leveled dancer in that area and my buffs aren't that great. I've found people would rather have no buff than a crappy one ( I know it doesn't make sense at first but I think people do that because they hope to run into a master dancer and don't want my crappy buff to prevent them from getting a good one later down the road.)

Not totally sure what you're talking about with the whole /join macro thing,(Like I said, I'm newer to dance than most of you, so I there's a lot out there I don't know. ) but since that is definately off topic, I'll look elsewhere to learn about that.

yeah that doesn't make sense does it? i've run into the same thing too. people on dath asking me what % i buff at. i tell them 75% and they say "ok no thanks".

first of all i buff for free. (i've already explained this) second of all their group has to wait anyway. third, there was no other entertainers there but me. huh? eh.

basically they are afk, but in their macro they insert the /join command. so a player strolls up to them, invites them to their group, and in a bit the macro kicks in and does a /join, which joins them to the group. that way the group can sit there and watch the entertainer and get a passive buff. I don't really see it all that often, but it does happen. and offtopic/not doesn't mean anything on these forums. i just meant "it's another issue". thread derailing is an art form on these boards.

i just made master dancer yesterday. i went to dantooine...noone was there..the dantooine crickets werent even chirping. i decided screw that and headed to coronet...the cantina was SO full of holobitches i said screw thatt oo. so i head to my beloved bestine...and its totally empty except for 6...SIX afk enterainers...and so i set my cute self up right in front and and say a little spiel about how im here and i can buff. and then i ry to buff a guy.

.i say here let me buff you..no charge.

ands he says

how much?

.... and i say...uh, free

so i tell him what needs to happen and i do a /setperf

and then said BITCHand ran away. yuck oh well (confusing, no?)

anyways im just not havin any good experiences so far. dancing isnt as fun/useful as it was before holocrons and decay.
