Thread: A compromise?

Hey all, i like you are bumbed about the proposed changes, but i love being a rifleman.

If got a few suggestions that might help our professions if the devs where to consider this proposaland some general suggestions that will benefit all classes.

Ive thought about this alot, the only way the proposed changes can work is if they doa fewthings and please read all the options before deciding your opinion. I love this class, and dont want to see what they are proposing to come in, but changes have to be made for the better of the game.

1. Remove the 2.5x dam we take against melee completly in PvE, and introduce it so that during PvP its position controlled, i.e Standing 1x, Kneeling 1.5x, Prone 2x (This is a hot topic and im rpetty sure the Aldeon has posted this several time, but for me this will be a massive change to the rifleman profession, for the better)

This will work because, in PvE we need all the help we need, be it, the warp bug or not, rifleman has to be the hardest profession there is to master. Personally i think all Master Rifleman should get a FS SLot I just dont see why, when we are dealing with Creatures that can have up to 10K Hams (took down the Gorax last night with a few fellow rifleman, 30k HAMS)and can one hit us to death (panshees on Endor do it to me twice daily) that we take double damage against these things. We simply cant stand up against these creatures, yet we also cant expect to One Shot them so give us a chance by removing the 2.5x Melee Modifier. Ive no problem with the modifiers being in place in PvP for the simple fact i think Rifleman will become one of the top professions in PvP so modifiers like this need to be in place.

2. Reintroudce the T21 to what it origianlly was with a slight damage increase to be around250 min - 500 max, leaving HAM costs as they where, we will fire less so it shouldnt be so bad. (This might happen but unlikely) Also, move T21 to Master Riflemanm and Laser to Novice Rifleman.

This will work because, if we are to have a 3 sec delay in firing at Master Level, we need to be able to one shot.It assimple as that. We need to be able to do what we are supposed to do. The T21 has to go back to its original state with a slight increase in power

As for the T21, with the power being so high, it should be an elite weapon, only being able to be used my Master Rifleman (gives you a goal to reach Master, and also prevent every other profession, from just getting Novice Rifleman and using such a powerful weapon)

As for the Laser, in its current form, it is more powerful that a T21. I think this should be the rifle we get as Novice Rifleman, again this prevents everyone from getting such a powerful rifle at Rifle III, so if they wont to use it they will have to at least get Novice Rifleman to do so.

3. Now, for the fist big one, make it so a sliced weapon cant use a Power Up. (booo everyone says, but please hear me out)

Now this is something for everyone to consider and will effect all weapons. Make it so that a sliced weapon cant have a power up associated with it. BAM, just there you have solved alot of problems. The first thing anyone will say is, a T21 with 500 max dam, slice for dam, it goes to 660 max dam, add a power up and it goes 880 max dam. ANd i must agree, that is too high. It would be a soultion for all parties that a sliced weapon couldnt be powered up. It wont stop eithermarket (powerupand sliced markets) from being as good as they are now, it will effect it, but it wont cripple it, but you wont see these huge weapons around the place inflicting massive amoutnts of damage. This is the big one and in my opinion is the key to making this a better game.

4.This is bigger than the first. This is an across the board change. Leave mind unhealable, but make all specials use mind, and those that hit mind, transfer them to hit either Health or Action.

Now, at first, i was dead against this, but i must conceed that it does seem unfair that we have an unhealable pool. And as it is, it isnt the domain of the rifleman with 5 other professions able to do mind damage.Making the propsed changes in such a fashion, leaves no room for anyone to complain. People will not be able to spam their specials anymore becuase they will face what we do everyday (down time to allow mind to heal, so again it will make their proposed combo situation better) but it will also improve our ability to PvE. It also makes sense that when you are doing a special you have to think about doing it so you should be using mind. Also, giving us the possibility of one shot people to incapp, in an unhealable pool, is to powerful, but if you give us the ability to hit someone and incapp them, but in a pool that is healable, due to our fire rate (3.0 secs) it give the doctor sometime to possible try and save him before we death blow. This is a big change but something i think can really work in the PvP scene. This will also give the rifleman meaning, we again will be able to deathblow, but should only really be able to one shot anything when we have T21 equipped which we get at Master Rifleman anyways. You might be able to one shot with a Laser, now at Novice Rifleman, but that is unlikely due to the low minimum damage.

I dont know guys, i like these ideas alot. If changes like this where introduced i dont think it would make the Rifleman the uber profession, not at all, but i think it would certainly make us stronger than we are now and also give us a fighting chance to stay in the battle.

What do you guys think?

Do you guys simply not respond to my ideas?

Several times i have put forward ideas, and always it seems that no one responds!

I like these ideas and think they could be good for all professions, not just rifleman!

I have read, I have listened, I have thought long and hard.

Live or Memorex is the issue im talking about

There are valid points from both sides of this issue.

So here is what i think should happen if nothing at all else happens

And it requires compromise from both sides of the fence.

As it stands right now an AFK entertainer in a good location with macros doing buffs has turned into the most sought after character in the entertainment proffessions

This has to change somehow no matter how you look at it. A live performer should be more highly prized than an afk "buff-bot"

Its a very simple solution in my opinion that allows the people that choose to play AFK to still do so and possibly even earn money doing it

While putting the live performers back into the spotlight and allowing them to be the sought after performers

How is this to be done?

Remove the passive group buff.

Replace the passive group buff with an active /setperformance on a group leader while NOT in that group

What does this do?

Well what it does is ends macro'd buffing using the system in place in the game anyway.

It does this by requiring the entertainer to target and /setperf on the group leader of the group they are to buff

By requiring the performer to not be in the group you disallow targetting through the group targets commands

This allows AFK entertainers to still heal people that listen and watch them and earn a tip or two possibly (This is basically what live has been reduced to at this point)

This allows the LIVE entertainers the ability to be the only people that can buff because like most other professions it is now an active thing that requires specific user input

While this doesnt address the ability to earn master while never at your keyboard this does address the issue that live performers have to take a back seat to AFK performers, which is not in the image of what the professions are about.

Untill you adress the underlying issue being that you can be just as effective a healing entertainer with zero effort as you can be with a great deal of effort, the problem is not adressed.

That problem is that the rest of the playerbase is never going to have any respect for a profession that can be done with no playtime invested by the player whatsoever. Without respect there is no value, and you don't pay money for something that isn't of value.

That is where every problem you see with entertainer begins, It is the only profession in game that is not prevented from doing so, Why is that? there is no concieveable reason for it.

This doesn't address what the Devs say they want to do.

They want to remove AFK play of all kinds. Buffbots as well as AFK dancers, sample bots, tumble bots, starport spammers, loot campers, meatlump campers and so on.

Therefore, your compromise won't fix what the devs want to fix.

I'm baaaaaack
And it looks like I'll be going again.

I wish I believed that a compromise was something I was open for, but I don't think I am. I applaud you for taking the time to try to come up with ideas to rectify this horrible problem, but....

I want my respect back.

I earned my Master Dancer with many, many keystrokes. I didn't even have a macro until I finally asked someone on the boards about macros a few weeks ago ( I know I'm behind the learning curve).

AFK play has to be removed.

It is embarrassing, for me, to be dancing in a cantina when a patron comes in and is shocked that I am ATK and we have a 20 minute conversation about how nobody else is ATK, but they will all get Master wtihout doing anything. It devalues the profession. It devalues what I and many other entertainers do day in and day out.

This is not meant to be a flame ... and I hope you don't take it as such. I am envious that you are able to look at a brighter side, or a chance where you would be able to compromise...

Buffbots kill my way to make money. I only have money because there are some very nice players who realize we're getting the short end of the stick.

AFK grinders devalue the entire profession. In many cases i get treated as if i'm a npc. I don't get asked for buffs or whatever, i get demands for them.

All forms of AFK play needs to be eliminated.

im sorry but you all are too jaded... this is a good compromise... it was not entitled total fix... but anything is better then nothing and as we know were not slated for anything time wise from the devs this would fix a lot w/ a little effort on their part... it would also create a much higher demand for buffs making us then have a viable way to make money again even if we are healing for free... if you don't think this would help, i would wonder how long you've been living with the problem because i have since launch, and i can assure you this woudl be usefull to us... great suggestion luuc!

The thing is its been mentioned many times. recursive macros would not be getting removed to benefit entertainers. The reason it was concieved was more largely influenced by combat macros (cob) and other repeating macros, spam etc that affect everyone in the game not just entertainers.

The fact that it would be a boon to entertainers has led people to believe if those crazy ents would just find some compromise we could keep our recursive macros. This was never for us, it just happened to be good for us too. Chances are there will be some compromise forced on us when and if it goes into effect and I just hope its not something that detracts from our play just as much. We as entertainers have no deciding power to influence the removal or retentionof recursive macros in any way. What i argue for is out of fear that we will be stuck with some stupid solution like npc healers that further detract from our class.

It is my hope that by making our feelings known at least maybe we can come out for the better in this with either no compromises to placate those that are spoiled by the buffbots and zombies, or with one that helps us in some way.

To be honest i don't realy believe they will take the time to implement some of the elaborate ideas such as holo recordings or holo broadcasts in the process. They will want something simple and fast and that could mean bad news for us when we see npc healers sitting around making us even more invalid.

This has already been considered. Not sure if it's still on the table, so to speak, but if it is, I'm going to be extremely upset. People claim they can't get healing on off-hours...to which I say "only because you don't bother to try looking". I've *NEVER* had issues finding a live entertainer at any time of the day or night. Sure, they're not easy to find these days (thank you, buffbots and AFKers, for this), but they're still around and I'd rather hire an ATK entertainer and pay expences to come to me than support a buffbot or AFK even if it's just for healing. For me, it's not about "get me out of here NOW", it's about making sure that a profession that I've enjoyed so much and whose player base is unmatched in creativity and filled with such great folks continues to survive. Yes, I'm a dancer...yes, I'm proud of it...yes, I also have a combat character (13 actually, including a jedi)....and I'm extremely upset that the devs would even consider an NPC even in "off hours" (what does this mean anyway?) in place of a profession that's played by real people. I still stay positive, though, and continue to promote live entertainment, no matter what the odds against me are.

Again, to the combat people that claim you can't find a live entertainer, shame on you for not even bothering to get to know your fellow players. Get out there and meet some of the dancers and musicians in your local cantina. I think you'll find them to be quite fun to be around and not just a piece of furniture or a time sink. Use /addfriend to add them to your friends list so you can actually find what you seek at those "off hours", whatever that means. We're here to entertain and we're willing to travel more often than not for a customer. And please, I beg of you, treat us with the respect that you'd treat your RL friends...we're real people with real feelings too and don't appreciate the unresponsive or rude. Get involved...this game will only continue on if we all work together and I'm hoping there is still enough good will in the non-entertainer communities to realise that we're not NPCs and may actually add to your fun in the game. Entertainers are some of the best people you'll meet, trust me, and more often than not, we're more than willing to help you get that buff, healing, or info that you need.

Cheers and keep flourishing!
