Thread: Info from Fanfest
masselin posted the following on the Jedi forum (clicky):
entertainers, dancer and musicians
the entertainer professions are being looked at to see how they can adapt to be more useful now than they were before the cu. currently, they aren't very usefull regarding battle fatigue or of course healing mind wounds or buffing mind and musician is no different from dancer.
As you can see, this isn't news to us. But I think having one thread to put this kind of stuff in is preferable to having a new thread for each post mentioning entertainers that someone makes on a different forum.
If any of you DID make it to Fanfest this year, I hope you will share any info you gleaned..not to mention pictures and indepth descriptions of any barroom action!!

Someone else also asked how non-combatants can fit into more quests, and the GCW.
I think he mostly focused on the GCW, saying it was up for another GCW revamp, and he made it seem like it was a priority.
Hopefully we'll be seeing some more encouragement to take part in the GCW!

Again..this was phrased and posted by a player..not a dev. I don't know that it is verbatim.Considering thatthe player was much more verbose regarding professions in which he holds a vested interest, I'm notinvesting a great expectation of accuracy in it.

What bothers me about statements like "Entertainers are being looked at" is that it implies that the powers-that-be don't know what they are doing. Not a surprise, but rather disappointing nonetheless.

And if they are just trying to understand us at the moment? I'd still say that's ok. We're playing in a work-in-progress, so I'm alright with the fact that they're still studying us, and still "looking at" possible directions for our profession.
I just want the attention. (That should go in my sig.
)

You know... and this is no offense meant to you personally, but more directed at the devleopers...
I am getting tired of hearing the "work in progress" line. If this is still a work in progress and not a finished product then why the heck am I paying for it?
If you ordered 100 cable stations from your cable company for a fixed rate per month, and 30 of them were static for months, would you continue to pay the rate? And would you find it acceptable that they said to you, "Our service is still a work in progress?" No you would not. You would either demand a refund or a discount in the service fee, and the company would certainly provide it.
I understand that the CU changes basically HAD to hose the rest of us, because so much was altered. I understand that for various reasons they had to push that live without making adjustments to everyone else. However, that said... where's my rebate for the fact that they haven't "finished" with the professions I play? (And not just one of them either -- several of them on 2 accounts, since I'm foolish enough to have 2 accounts, which of course is my own damn fault, I realize.)
The problem is not that things aren't working, but that I'm being not just asked, but expected, to endure probably months and months of paying for an incomplete service, and expected to smile and be all nicey-nice about it. And I'm sorry but after 2 years of this... my patience is starting to run out.
Here's my suggestion. SOE can take as long as they want to fix entertainers. Hell, they can make "eventually" turn into "never" if they want. In the meantime, until they FIX my chosen profession... let me play for free.
Sound reasonable? I think so, actually. If they're going to break what I do in the game, then don't charge me to play it.

heh...Chessack. I completely agree with you. It's been two years."Being looked into"is no longer a validexcuse. Everything you say is correct.
Having said that, the majority of times these days I'm not playing nicey-nice because I'm expected to, nor am I doing it because they think they deserve it. They don't. Period. However, I mostly play nicey-nice these days because I want something, and I realize the only chance I have of getting it is to pretend and to manipulate.
Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do for the greater good.
Yeah....I'm just not paying until it gets fixed, and therefore not playing.
After the Cantina Crawl, I'm gone again. (Likely for good. I've spent a good portion of my day ingame today, and, aside from Kashyyyk, which I haven't bought, nothing of substance has been enhanced in the game. Combat is basically the same. Buggy. A few speeders and pointless loot items have been added, but those are basically 'goodies.' Crafting and the economy basically took the nose-dive from hell... Where's the content? The passion? The community-building tools? The challenges? They havestructural issues with the foundation, and they're settinga vase anddecorationson the unsteady table in the guest bedroom. Why?)
I'm just saying that I'm glad they're still looking into the entertainer professions, because things aren't going well elsewhere in the game, and we really areless of a priority in the eyes of smart management teams. We're a minority, really. (I know we weren't originally the absolute minority, but I think leaving the basic design flaws in the game for such a long time has taken a toll on our numbers.) Honestly, I'd rather hear them tell us to find another game than to lie about our revamp being around the corner. Hopefully, they are actually looking into our core roles, and forming an action plan.
And hopefully they let us alpha test these changes....so we can let them know whether or not they're going to work. ![]()
